77 Fight to Survive
After firing many bolts into the demon beast waves, Trevon finally saw the sun appeared from the forest in front of him. The orange light was beautiful, yet the roar of the beasts haunted the atmosphere.
He looked into his artifact. His number barely increased even after numerous bolts he sent. This meant one thing. The demon beasts were stronger.
"Another breach!" Some defenders screamed.
Trevon followed those cultivators to the battle. [F*ck!] Trevon almost wanted to cry. He saw ten percent of the beasts were Rank 2 demon beasts.
"There is a Rank 3 beast." A cultivator screamed.
A rank 3 demon beast actually didn't need to wait for the barrier to be breached. It could directly enter the city, but it would become a single target for many cultivators. This beast had enough intelligence to attack together with its brethren.
Trevon looked to the shout direction. A big boar was smashing some cultivators nearby with its Charge ability. Since he was in a safe position he used his Scout.

Trevon for the first time felt the notification annoying. It added another layer to his vision. He removed those panels while ran away from demon beasts.
"Congratulations!" Master Rabbink suddenly appeared and said in a relaxing tone. [This kid is really a young master. He wouldn't easily die.]
[What?] Trevon parried an attacking demon beast. The beast had just found him. It was an armadillo type. This was an annoying beast with high defense but low attack power.
"Try to use the new skill to the beast!"
Trevon used the skill. He felt some spiritual energy in his body moved into his eyes. In his vision, Trevon saw some red-glows started to appear on the beast's body. The young master did this while he and his bodyguards mobbed the beast.
"Those glowing parts are the weakness of the opponent." Master Rabbink explained. Its cheats were all powerful. A God power wouldn't be normal.
Trevon couldn't believe this. This armadillo had a strong upper body. Based on common knowledge its belly was its weakness, but he saw some red-glows on its upper bodies.
Nevertheless, he decided to try. The young master was faster than the beast in the first place. A stab of Dark Demon Slayer hurt the demon beast.
[Impossible!] Trevon wanted to scream. That was the armored part of the demon beast. However, he felt like he was cutting a tofu. [Is my Dark Demon Slayer sword that powerful?]
Even the demon beast felt strange. It was its own body. The Armadillo remembered it had strong scales on that region. In the morning before the battle, it even had cleaned and brushed that part.
"This is the power of Weakness Scan. Gwahahaha. The recruiter is a good job. You are lucky to have this profession." Master Rabbink commented in a teaching tone. "The higher the skill level, the better the effect. It will add more red-glows and your attack would make more damages."
[This is great.] Trevon continued to attack the demon beast. However, those red light finally disappeared. Trevon hit a place where a red glow used to be.
"Clank..." He couldn't pierce the beast.
[I will just use the skill again.] Trevon used the skill again. Some red-glows appeared again. They appeared in different locations than the previous scan.
After several more stabs, Trevon managed to defeat the demon beast easily. Jack and Jerry were surprised. They couldn't imagine that some of this beast's armored body was softer than tofu.
[I will try the skill to the boar.] Trevon saw the giant boar again. Some powerful elders already battled with it. He saw few very small red-glows from his skill on the boar.
"You are far weaker, so the glow would be weaker and lesser. The brighter the glow the more damage you could cause to the opponent." Master Rabbink said. "Remember this skill had a higher spiritual energy cost than Scout!"
Trevon suddenly realized, he had only less than half of his spiritual energy. [Sh*t!]
"The stronger the enemies were the higher the cost. Gwahahaha. Good luck! This Rabbink will watch you again." Master Rabbink disappeared.
Trevon took a pill to regenerate his spiritual energy. He saw another powerful demon beast. This time it was a Peak Rank 1 demon beast. The young master only had Jack on his team who could barely manage to defend the beast. Kevin tried to assist Jack.
The young master was forced to use his Weakness Scan skill again. Some red-glows started to light on the beast's body.
Trevon decided to fight this one since it kept chasing his small team. While demon beasts blessed with powerful physiques. Human warriors were blessed with brains and heritages. They could use martial arts and cultivate. Humans also researched talismans, weapons, armors, pills, formations, and many more. This balanced the competition between a human and a demon beast.
Trevon activated a blazing talisman. He dashed toward the beast and slapped the talisman on the darkest red-glows. The young master quickly rolled back to retreat.
"Boom!" An explosion appeared. The beast was instantly killed. This talisman could easily injure any cultivator below rank 2.
"It was defeated by a talisman?" Lance was surprised.
"Follow me!" Trevon didn't want to fight powerful beasts. He went to find weaker opponents.
One hour was the time needed before the battle was over. The elder only managed to chase the Rank 3 beast away. That Rank 3 demon beast smartly moved inside and outside the barrier to evade the elders. A Rank 3 demon beast had some intelligence.
Trevon could see more injured warriors this time. Some cultivators cried their friend's name. Those cultivators were killed in the battle. While cultivators were a god to common people, they were small being in the harsh world.
As the protector of humanity, this duty might cost their own lives. This was why people didn't have a negative feeling for those guards who left the villagers on the tail to die under demon beast attack. Those guards' lives were valuable to chase the demon beast out of the city.

Time moved fast, another shift happened. Finally, it was two hours before the end of his shift.
It was around 18:00. Trevon didn't know the exact time. However, the night had started to cover the land.
"Hiehiehie..." Trevon heard a laughter from deep inside Redwood Forest.
"Human... You have trampled our lands." Trevon saw the demon beasts started to retreat from the human firing range. In a certain area, the demon beasts started to open a large path.
Five minutes later, Trevon saw a person appeared. He wanted to use his Scout but the person was too far.
Trevon could see numerous powerful demon beasts followed him. A Lion with the blazing body, an elephant with the iron body, even a Giant Turtle, and many more powerful beasts marched behind their king.
"My name is Zhang Lang. I am the King of Redwood Forest. Hiehiehie." The handsome man walked slowly closer to the city.
"I have enough of humans destroying our forest. Our home!" Zhang Lang sent a long-range attack on the city. It shook the wall. Luckily, those walls had been strengthened with formations.
Some human warriors on the wall turned pale with fear from the appearance of this Beast King. The kid appeared too fast compared to previous demon beast waves.
"This is the time for us to get our God back. I will take it back. I will reduce your city into ashes similar to how you destroyed our God's home. I will hunt every single survivor like human hunted us. This will be our revenge." He spoke. Trevon started to feel the pressure of a powerful Rank 3 aura. Fortunately, the city barrier reduced the effect.
[This is bad. He is even more powerful than Grandma.] Trevon thought based on the aura. He was this far from Zhang Lang, yet he could feel the pressuring aura.
Zhang Lang looked young. He seemed to be eighteen to twenty-one years old. A beautiful handsome face with a sharp masculine jaw, clear, deep eyes, and a pointed nose. The beast king had a long black hair and normal body. He looked like a normal human but with two feelers on tops his head.
[Is that a demon?] This was the first time Trevon saw a demon.
Zhang Lang wasn't scary. In a normal situation, most ladies wouldn't stop looking at the handsome demon.
"Beasts!!!" He shouted.
All beasts roared back. "GROAWHHHHHHH!!!"
"PREPARE!!!" He ran into the barrier. Some Rank 3 demon beasts followed him into the barrier.
Redwood City's barrier could protect the city from Rank 2 and lower demon beasts. Meanwhile, these demon beasts were Rank 3 demon beasts which could enter the barrier easily. Zhang Lang and his group could easily pass the barrier. The King led the attack while creating spiritual energy to receive the rain of bolts from human warriors.
"DO NOT GIVE UP!!!" Zhang Lang shouted again. He stopped as many bolts as he could, but the huge attack of warriors started to stop some weaker Rank 3 demon beasts. Those Rank 3 demon beasts were also huge, so they became an easy target for warriors. Especially the canon.
"ATTACK!!!" Zhang Lang jumped a hundred meter ahead and attacked the city wall.
All beasts roared again. "GROAWHHHHHHH!!!" They seemed to cheer their leader. Some demon beasts returned to smash the barrier.
"DUAR..." A magic cannon aimed at Zhang Lang.
However, the demon easily avoided human canon. It was too late for warriors to attack with bolts at this distance.
"Goliath Punch!" Zhang Lang attacked a part of the wall. His hand turned black while a huge amount of spiritual energy materialized into a huge hand.
"BOOM!" Some wall debris filled the air. Smoke appeared around the wall, while spiritual energy turned more chaotic.
[HOLY SHIT!] Trevon saw the result of the Demon's attack. A section of the twenty-meter-tall wall of Redwood was destroyed in a punch. This was the power of a Rank 3 demon beast.
[He must not just a Rank 3 demon beast. This power is a Peak Rank 3 demon beast.] Trevon thought.
"Do not give up!" Trevon heard a calm voice of Viero amplified with spiritual energy. From inside the city, Viero Redwood walked towards the gate. Behind him, some people also followed him. They were Redwood strongest warriors.
Trevon could see his grandmother was one of them. Next to Viero, Trevon saw someone who he really hoped to be here. He was his family leader. The most powerful active elders in McArthur family, Michael McArthur.
He looked like a twenty-five years old young man, with a face similar to Alvaro and Trevon, beautifully handsome. His hair flowed as he walked towards the broken parts. While his deep and calm eyes didn't miss any movement from the cloud of debris smoke.
[We will win.] Trevon felt happy when he saw his figures. He was the pillar that protected the family for almost five hundred years, the Undefeated Michael McArthur.
Trevon could see his family members started to look brighter after the seeing the figure.
"We are human warriors. This is our city. We will not lose!!!" Viero shouted back. He wanted to rally the city defender's morale.
When a demon beast king was defeated the big demon beast waves would be over. The king would issue the retreat cry. As for killing him, that was close to impossible.
A demon was blessed with a powerful demon beast's physique and also the ability to cultivate. If a demon beast needed three same rank human warriors with standard equipment. A demon needed four to six same rank human warriors with standard equipment. While those elders' armors and weapons weren't standard, the same could be said about a beast king.

Michael used a sword to kill another Rank 3 demon beast. The rest of human warriors surrounded the escaping demon beasts.
While some guards tried to remove the debris from the wall. This broken part of the wall could no longer be used to defend the city. The most important defense was the crystal barrier. However, this broken part of the wall would be an easy target for demon beasts to enter Redwood City.
After fifteen minutes of clashes, the Rank 3 demon beasts managed to be repelled. Some Rank 3 warriors received some heavy injuries, while some demon beasts couldn't return outside the barrier.

"This isn't normal. Do you think a demon would attack a city without a plan? I felt something bad."
"Fine." Viero decided to follow this legend. While he still the leader of the defense, he had to admit this Michael was the strongest warrior here.

The gong was rung for nine times. This meant the highest preparation for the citizens. People quickly entered their home. Most already hid after the aura from the forest king.

Trevon saw a tall building snapped. The top fell into the ground. It fell on numerous tall buildings below it. That was the highest building in Redwood City, the Defensive Tower.
"The East Defensive Tower is destroyed! The Beast Repelling Crystal is destroyed!" Some cultivators screamed.
The crystal wouldn't work after its fall that high. Without its base formation, the crystal was only a big glowing stone.
"Hiehiehie!!!" Trevon heard someone laughing. The person intentionally used spiritual energy to laugh. Zhang Lang appeared on top a building near the tower.
"BEAST, ATTACK!!!" A command was heard from the king.
"GROAWHHHHHHH!!!"

The beasts roared. They ran into the open city. No crystal barrier would stop those beasts from entering the city.
Zhang Lang's destruction of the defensive tower made a quarter of the city lost its protection. The flying bird, the burrowing beast, and the rampaging beast waves, they crowded towards the broken wall.
"Warriors, protect the city!!!" Viero shouted. This was outside everybody imagination. The Beast King alone managed to pass the city's defense.
"Warriors, fight to survive!!!" Michael shouted. He and Viero started to intercepted powerful Rank 3 demon beasts from entering the city. However, all knew it was hard. Those famous warriors could only buy time. Panic appeared on the wall.
"We have to protect the other crystals. He somehow could enter the city." Michael was quick. He talked while fighting against the waves.
"I agree with you, Master Michael." Viero punched a weak demon beast to obliteration.
"Issabella, you protect the West Tower. Vivian, you protect the North Tower, Owen, you protect the South Tower. Whoever saw the beast king, delay him and ask for support! I and Viero will come to that place. Remember do not try to fight the demon alone. Aim for delaying him!"
"Yes, Family Leader!" They shouted. The three jumped toward their towers.
At the same time, from McArthur Family buildings, some grand elders arrived on top of the wall. They had the responsibility to protect the family young masters and ladies to the safety.
"Where is Trevon?" Grand Elder Vince couldn't find the young master.
"Eh?" Even Jack and Jerry didn't realize their young master disappeared.
"He already ran." Raina saw Trevon. He shouted for the people to run and was the first person to disappear. She pointed the way to the city.

He ran outside the building, but the street was already chaotic. People filled the small city road. All tried to be faster than the people in front of them escaping towards the other region of the city.
Trevon couldn't return to the wall and could only follow the commoners to run deeper into the city.
[Sh*t! What mess I am in?] Trevon couldn't believe his destiny. He was pushed by the people behind him, and he also pushed the people in front of him.

Trevon knew his own power and ran into another alley. He kept running and running. Going from one small street into another small street. Big demon beast couldn't come into this maze without destroying some buildings.
Trevon passed another street in panic before he looked around.
[Gaaah? Where am I?] Trevon finally realized. He didn't know where he was.
"Aoooo...." A wolf type demon beast saw Trevon. It had red fur and red eyes. The wolf just called its pack.
[Sh*t!] Trevon threw some blazing talismans behind and ran into another alley.
His fight to survive started.
