76 Demon Beast Waves

Chapter 76 - Demon Beast Waves

It was 12:00. Trevon already stationed in one part of the long Redwood City wall. Around to him were Jack, Jerry, Kevin, and Lance. Jonathan was stationed in another part of the wall. He was too weak compared to Trevon and his other bodyguards.

The place was still peaceful. However, the aura of terror had shouted from the Redwood Forest. It was another time for a city versus a forest.

Trevon stepped his heavy armored boots into the stone wall.

"Clank... Clank... Clank..."

[These boots fitted me.]

Around him, many Redwood City guards brought huge wooden crates into the wall. Their leader monitored those guards while at the same time, he briefed the defense plan to the cultivators. Trevon didn't need to hear this. He had experienced the demon beast waves in Bluestar. The humans' defense plan was basically a javelin competition.

[Sigh... I hope it is only a javelin competition.] Trevon felt his hands were wet. The young master took a silk handkerchief to dry them again.

He felt slightly nervous. [I hope the aura thing worked.] Trevon tried to check his equipment again.

A few minutes of waiting continued. He started to see more and more people ran into the city from outside. They were the villagers from around Redwood.

Trevon had even seen some people with Red Dragon flags. They were some family staffs who came from inside the forest. [Father should be one of them.]

The young master couldn't see that all the city gates were fully opened while the crystal barriers had been activated. Redwood City's crystals had red colored barriers. It was a majestic view yet nobody took the time to enjoy the view. A human could easily enter the perimeter, but the demon beast wouldn't be able to enter.

Some beasts from Demon Beast Market even had been put into sleep using a specialized potion. They might create trouble if they woke up and the Beast King ordered them to rebel from inside. Some useless and weak ones were butchered as emergency food and to reduce the sleeping potion cost.

Right on the outside of the defensive barrier, some city guards positioned themselves to make a perimeter. Those guards prepared to block the fastest group of demon beast from attacking the end of the refugees.

Most refugees were villagers and traveling merchants. The villagers were the ones who lived closer to the redwood forest. Majority of the refugees had arrived last night. Today's refugees were the end of the tail, the old, the child, or the weak. Any slower than this meant they would be rolled up by the beast wave.

Trevon hadn't seen a beast. Yet, the roars finally could be heard. Those were the roars of Rank 3 demon beasts. This added the pressure to the defender including Trevon. [I couldn't fall before I defeat that kid for the third time. Yeah! I will survive this. Hahaha.] He activated the aura again to gain his confidence.

Another one and a half hours passed. The refugees already thinned. Those guards in perimeter also became more prepared, the start of the fight was near. Trevon couldn't see any of his family flags from those refugees.

Trevon checked the bow in his hand. It came from the city defense. [One thousand.] He counted the bolts on the skin quiver. For the powerful demon beast, no common arrowhead could damage them. The two-meter-long bolts were sharp and durable. While the bow was made from a demon beast tendon and a strong spirit wood. Only a cultivator could hold and pull this powerful and heavy bow.

He also had a special artifact on his left hand, a bracelet. This was a simple artifact to count the number of demon beasts killed during a wave. People with a higher number would get more rewards. Trevon didn't know how it was counted since some people said stronger demon beast had additional points. Nevertheless, that was the standard that the everyone used. People said that it made from modifying an ancient inscription so the information was accurate.

After another fifteen minutes, Trevon finally got to see the first demon beasts. It was a pack of Blood Eyed Vultures. They were attacking the escaping villagers.

"Flap... Flap... Flap..." Each vulture had over than three-meter wings. The largest could even reach six-meter long. Their flapped could be heard like a terror bell. One of the vultures dived and took a young kid from his family.

Trevon couldn't hear the kid's voice. However, the combine's voice turned into the scream for help from around the city. This was the first time he had to hear the scream since this was the first time he was forced to join a beast wave in the beginning. In Bluestar, he usually came late with his grandfather, Douglas was the city leader.

"Prepare!!" A loud shout using spiritual energy was heard.

The guards at the barriers quickly took their bow. They pulled their bow and aimed their bolts to the vultures in the sky.

"Shoot!!"

Thousands of black lines filled the sky. Some vultures fell to the ground.

These vultures were the dangerous native demon beasts of Redwood Forest. Their bald red-head and red furs made them a difficult-to-spot demon beast in the forest. While they could watch the hunters from above the sky covered with the red tree. Luckily it wasn't in the forest, it was the open field around Redwood City. Blood Eyed Vulture was only a Primary Rank 1 demon beast. They couldn't defeat the firing of cultivators.

Another wave of black lines filled the sky again. The guards fired thousands of arrows into the sky. These bolts weren't normal, humans coated poison on them.

While most demon beasts had built immunity to common poison through their evolution. Human heritage also had given birth to genius Poison Makers. Those geniuses made unique poisons, which those demon beasts hadn't developed the immunity. That was another endless fight between humanity research and demon beast evolution.

After these vultures retreated, the guards also started to retreat to the city. Any other survivors after this could be considered dead. Other demon beasts would surround the city.

While some villagers hadn't managed to enter the city barriers. The guards wouldn't waste their lives for these villagers. They were cultivators and these people were common people. As a guard, they would help but they wouldn't endanger their lives to save a few commoners. A more important battle where the lives of Redwood citizens would be gambled would start soon.

City defenders had already known about the bigger beast wave from the scout. If it was normal demon beast wave, Trevon wouldn't even hear the gong. Those guards would kill the beasts themselves. They would get a better share that way.

Trevon with his high above average eyesight could start to see the end villagers maimed by those demon beasts. Some red wolves, some red tiger, and more beasts already appeared from the forest as a tiny red dot. From the endless movement of the trees, people could see that even more demon beasts marched toward the city.

"Uergh..." Trevon quickly ran to the back. While he had watched brutality in the arena, too many brutalities were in front of him. He was only a kid who didn't even reach fifteen years old. Even in Bluestar, he only needed to come a bit later.

[I want to run. I want to run. Sh*t. I have to fight. I have to fight.] He tried to cheer himself. Those beasts looked like a water tide, ready to flood the City. With those beasts, there would be no surrender.

Master Rabbink floated above Trevon. It kept silent all this time.

"Are you fine, Young Master?" Jerry came to Trevon. He gave Trevon some wines to drink. This would add some heats to the body.

"I am ready." Trevon decided. He would prefer to run away, but he had to fight.

Trevon could see several other young masters and young ladies experience the same. Some very young kids even fainted on the spot. Their family brought them to the rest area. They were the future generation of humanity. That was the responsibility of a cultivator. He was no longer could act as one of those kids.

He could see other young masters also prepared themselves. All carefully checked their equipment, talismans, pills, and other treasures. This section of the wall had many young masters from cultivation family. The place was one of the safest sections in the city.

[I am the young master who will haunt many children of God! I will haunt them!] Trevon ensured his Young Master Aura still worked.

Trevon also knew his grandmother even stayed in a building closed to this gate. She would appear later with other old monsters if a powerful Rank 3 demon beast appeared. On the wall, some Rank 2 elders from the cultivation families protected their younger generations. They were cultivating to maximize their spiritual energy.

Raina came to Trevon. "Try to follow me later! I will protect you. Your elder sister had defeated many of these beasts." She proudly declared. The beautiful princess had entered the forest multiple times for her tempering and felt confident of her battle prowess.

"Thank You, Sis." Trevon could only accept with a shallow smile.

"Prepare to fire!!!" Trevon heard a shout from a middle-aged man. His voice heavy and hoarse, but it gave the aura of confidence during this time. The middle-aged man raised his left hand to sign when to attack.

Trevon and Raina quickly returned to their positions. He took his arrow and pulled it. Shooting a bolt into the demon beasts during this time was the easiest way to increase the number. This number would become bragging right for young masters and young ladies from cultivation family. That would also become the proof of their bravery and participation.

Trevon couldn't miss the chance to get some easy numbers during this early fight. This time was the safest. He aimed his bow to the sky. The young master drew the bowstring using spiritual energy together with other cultivators.

The defenders made three lines. He was in the first line together with his guards.

"Shoot!!!" The defense captain ordered while pointing his hand towards the beasts.

Hundred thousand of bolts started to fill the sky. Some demon beast already started to attack the barrier while the guards outside the gate quickly helped the villagers to enter the city. Redwood City had already been surrounded by the beasts.

Trevon quickly crouched himself after he fired. Behind him, the second line started to prepare. He took a spirit stone to refill his spiritual energy.

"Prepare to fire!!!" This time was the chance for second in line.

The beast seemed endless, another wave filled the gap for the fallen demon beast. Trevon believed he could see millions of demon beasts. He even saw some beasts which he had only seen in the picture. Redwood City was big, but Redwood Forest was far enormous.

"Fire!!!"

Hundred thousand of bolts soared into the sky again. This was how the human fought against demon beasts. Other than those bolts, magic canons launched their blasts. These canons could create even greater damage to the beasts.

"Duar!!! Duar!!! Duar!!!"

Trevon could see those beasts destroyed by the canon. Each fire was very explosive and powerful. This also destroyed the bodies of demon beasts. Therefore, most people would prefer not to use this if it was possible.

"There is a breach!" Some defenders started to scream. It was directly in front of Trevon's section.

"Yeah!!!" The cultivators were happy. This was the real battle. The chance to obtained more merits and perhaps some important demon beast body parts.

Trevon saw the breach. It was a ten-meter hole in the wall. This made him felt afraid. During his time in Bluestar, it was rare for the city barriers to get breached. The waves had just started and it was already a breach.

Some quick demon beasts entered the place. They were mostly Rank 1 demon beast. It wasn't easy to see Rank 2 or Rank 3 demon beasts, like how they were also rare for the human. It was almost a legend to see a Rank 4 demon beasts.

Trevon could see some cultivators went down from the wall. They used the stairs, while some even jumped from the gate. Those who jumped were Rank 2 warriors who had totally tempered their body. This twenty-meter-high wall was nothing for those Rank 2 warriors.

Trevon also went down together with other young masters. The earlier breach was the easiest. These were the weakest demon beast driven from the forest by the stronger demon beasts. They were forced to appear first or killed by the beast behind them. This battle was also a natural selection for those demon beasts.

Trevon followed other McArthur guards to the battle. He wasn't stupid to appear in the front. The young master didn't lack money. Instead, he was forced to join this battle. Even the family would want their young masters and ladies tempered in the battle. Only the strong was worth growing. While the weak should contribute to making the heroic name for the family.

Trevon took his Dark Demon Slayer and ran outside the gate. The first step he did outside the gate, gave him some regrets.

[SH*T!!! I am in trouble.]

His foot was deeply embedded in the field. He wore a pair of heavy boots together with a heavy footguard. This added with his heavy armor and full metal pants. The young master had asked Auto for armors with the best defense that he could use.

While he only needed to use slightly more spiritual energy to carry these heavy armors in the city. Nevertheless, the field outside couldn't hold his weight. Outside the city was a green grass field, it was different from the stone tiles on the city's road.

"What's wrong, Young Master?" Kevin went to Trevon. All his bodyguards wore something lighter. Yet Trevon went to super safety first.

Trevon could understand a turtle feeling. He couldn't move.

[F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! F*ck!] Trevon stored some of his armors on his storage ring. Each time he stored, he cursed. He quickly went to Auto and purchased more lightweight armors. This reduced his emergency funds.

His bodyguards were silent, they could see their young master had huge resources. Some rogue cultivators gave an envied look to Trevon. They couldn't have a set of armors, yet Trevon could easily change his armors.

[This is better.] Trevon thought. He spent three minutes to change his armors. Other cultivators had farmed the weak demon beasts while some elders protecting their descendant. They would fight the powerful demon beasts which worth higher points.

Trevon went to the battlefield, but he didn't pierce the crowds. He went to the wing of the battlefield with fewer cultivators and fewer demon beasts. The cheating young master used his Scout skill to avoid slightly dangerous demon beasts.

Trevon aimed to find weaker demon beasts and attacked them. He managed to find a group of Red Horn Goat. The red goat had sharp horns, but low cultivation. As long as he didn't get hit by those horns, he should be fine.

[Potential: 8/9]

[Potential: 5/6]

[Potential: 6/8]

[Potential: 3/6]

[Potential: 6/6]

Trevon could see the beasts' powers using Scout skill and went to those weak beasts with his bodyguards. He took the one with potential 3/6. A slash of his 'Roaring Eagle Sword Combination 1st Level' was enough to finish the beast. The young master hit the beast on its neck.

Then he went to kill the one with potential 5/6. His bodyguards tried their best to protect their young master while they also killed the beasts for their own points.

Trevon managed to do this a few times. He found another weak group and another. This Scout skill didn't consume too many spiritual energy. As long as he didn't use Scout to Master Rabbink, the skill was actually lightweight.

The only downside of this Scout strategy was that he saw many panels above those demon beasts. It became a bit crowded in his vision.

[5/6] Trevon saw a demon beast and quickly hit it.

[10/11] Trevon ran from the beast.

[1/3] Another slash and the beast defeated.

[6/6] Trevon slashed it.

[26/27] [Gwah!!!] Trevon pretended to find another group of beasts.

He saw the artifact in his hand. [37.] He had obtained thirty-seven points that equal to thirty-seven demon beasts since he aimed for the very weak demon beasts.

"The crack had started to repair!" Some people shouted. This increased the morale of the warriors.

Trevon also increased his attacking speed. He still tried to kill those weaklings.

Another thirty minutes and the battle were over. The crack was closed and the beast could no longer enter the city.

[Huff... Huff... Huff...] Trevon felt tired. It wasn't a glorious fight, but at least he had contributed some points. He ran back to the city wall. They could get some rest and only needed to fire the long-range bolts from the top of the wall.

While some poor cultivators sneakily took small parts of their killing, some common people who worked as scavengers appeared from the gates. The scavengers would collect those demon beast bodies to be shared later. Those bodies were the emergency foods during a beast wave. If they didn't collect the body, it would be eaten by other demon beasts when there was another breach.

"How many points do you have?" Some young masters had started to compare their numbers.

"Twenty-five. You?"

"Fifty." The young master said with pride on his face.

"I got Seventy-eight." Another young master felt even prouder.

"How many points did you get?" Raina went next to Trevon.

Trevon looked at his hand. [89.]

"I got eighty-nine."

"I still win." Raina felt proud. She showed her [130] score.

"Yeah! Elder Sister is the best." Trevon raised both of his thumbs to Raina. He might need to ask her help in danger so a little praise wouldn't hurt him.

Jack, Jerry, Kevin, and Lance were speechless. This young master ran around the battlefield. He somehow managed to find easy targets and killed many demon beasts. However, the bodyguards needed to run around to cover his ass.

Normally, it wouldn't be that easy to kill those demon beasts. It would require three people to mob each demon beast. Nevertheless, the fight was easy because those demon beasts were weakling while these cultivators who dared to melee were powerful. The cultivators also still had their numbers advantage against the demon beasts which managed to enter.

There were also some powerful elders who protected their young master. Once a powerful beast entered the barrier, powerful elders would attack it. They wouldn't let overly dangerous beasts killed their younger generation which cost the family huge resources to raise.

Trevon entered the gate again. He finally felt safe.

"The injuries come here!" A beautiful lady in white robe shouted.

Some injured warriors came to the tent. There would be many doctors helping in the tent.

[What a beautiful nurse!] Trevon slashes a shallow scratch using his sword.

"I am hurt, Beautiful Sister. Could you treat me?" Trevon took the time to court the girl. From his Scout skill, he got the name Florence.

"You can go over to the tent." She pointed Trevon to a certain tent.

"I believe in your medicinal ability." Trevon showed his shining smile.

The girl looked into Trevon. She knew this young master wasn't hurt. "Fine. Come here!"

The beautiful nurse took Trevon to a chair outside the tent. Some nurses sat in a row treated simple wounds.

Trevon enjoyed the feeling a girl touched his hand. [Hwehwehwe. This is safer than working on top of the wall. Should I make an injury later?]

[AUCH...] He found the girl applied some medicines to his injury.

"This is not painful, right?" The girl chuckled.

"Yeah! It isn't. AW!!!" Suddenly he felt the girl pressed on his wound.

"Please be serious! This is a dangerous condition. Hmph..." The girl harrumphed before leaving Trevon.

"Aw!!! Aw!!!" This is painful. Trevon saw the wound already healed. His self-made wound was easy to treat. He even had fifty types of external injury medicines on Universe Store for this simple wound.

"This girl isn't as beautiful as her look." Trevon complained. He didn't like a girl who isn't gentle.

Trevon went to the wall again. He had missed some free shoot, he quickly joined the third line with his bodyguards.

The battle kept continued this way. The defense team arranged some shifts which allowed those cultivators to take a break. Trevon went to the ground for another three times. He got a total score of 386 thanks to his Scout to find very weak demon beasts.

This 386 was huge compared to other young masters and ladies. Most common young master only got around two hundred. Yet, it was far behind 568 points of Raina. Those families' chosens were the winner in this competition. It was said that Leon Redwood managed to gather 886 points. Trevon heard from Raina that Olivia managed to get 532 points.

Jack, Jerry, Kevin, and Lance also didn't find too many dangerous situations. Trevon could see those powerful beasts from a long distance and avoided them while aiming for the weak one. His killing number was one of the highest yet his points were in the middle.

It was 20:00 in the night. Trevon got the first break. It was the perks of a young master of cultivation family. They could sleep between 20:00 to 04:00. He went to a special house prepared by his family. Those houses were left by their owner who hid in a safer area.

Trevon got a large pagoda styled house together with five other McArthur young masters and their bodyguards. He only knew Edward from these other youngsters.

"Hi, Trevon. Did you get lots of points today?" He asked. This was the common talk between young master.

"I got 386, Brother Edward."

"Wow! You are good." Edward said. "I only managed to get 296 points. Have you heard that Redwood Family, young master..." The native Redwood young masters had more information than Trevon.

They continued their talks about the battle today. Edward also talked about his father, Grand Elder Kleigh who went into the forest with Trevon's father. Both were hoping their father had returned to the city.

Trevon tried to sleep that night. His body felt really tired while adrenaline still ran through his body. He was forced to wake up at 03:00 by the family elders.

"Wake up! Wake up! Prepare yourself for today's battle!" An elder shouted using spiritual sense before he went into another house.

"Gah!" Trevon still wanted some extra sleep. Nevertheless, he quickly went to the bathroom since he didn't want to wait for other young masters.

After bathed, Trevon went outside with Edward and enjoyed some good breakfast made by the family chefs.

"Today would be deadlier. You may not know this, but this is similar to the last big demon beast wave. The last big demon beast waves almost destroyed the city." Edward told the story of about the beast waves.

Trevon nodded to the story. It was the chance for these young masters to relax before the battle.

"It was lucky Elder Viero from Redwood family managed to repel the Demon. This time we are in a better position. Our family had your grandmother, Grand Elder Issabella in the city."

Trevon felt Edward was right. He had heard about the last big beast waves and how Viero managed to force the previous king to retreat. With two Peak Rank 3 warriors in the city, it would be safer. He also knew the city had other Rank 3 warriors protecting it. It wouldn't easy to crumble the city defense.

Other than the refuges, Trevon could see the city acted normal. The stores were open while the workers still produced things. This gave some added security to the common people. Most common people still thought the attacks were just slightly difficult demon beast waves.

Nevertheless, some emergency productions like arrows, bolts, weapons, armors, and other were increased. At the same time, the cultivations family secretly hid some supplies for themselves.

Trevon could hear some city guards patrolled the city while shouting the propaganda to calm the citizens. Citizens chaos inside would create an even more dangerous situation than the demon beast outside.

"Our Defense Team had managed to protect the gate!"

"We killed a Rank 3 Demon Beasts!"

"The guards are confident to repel the beasts!"

They moved through the street declaring their victories while hiding the bad information.

Trevon went to the wall with Edward, Raina, and many more young masters. He could see the silent Luis followed the group. From Raina, Trevon got some information about the last night battle. The barrier was breached multiple times, but the defenders managed to prevent the demon beasts from entering the city.

Trevon climbed the stairs into the top of the wall again. He saw some tired faces waiting on the top.

"Finally!" Some people cheered.

Some warriors gave palm and fist salute to each other. This wave wasn't a simple demon beast wave. Anything longer than a day was a big beast wave. Against a big beast wave, there was no guarantee the city could last against these waves. Everyone was a brother when they couldn't run from those beasts. All would work together to survive.

The sky was still dark with a tinge of orange. Yet Trevon could see the number of demon beasts was still endless. He took his position on a command.

"Prepare!!!" Another captain had replaced the yesterday captain.

"Fire!!!" Another thousand bolts lost in the darkness.
