Missing

It was silent again as the guy and girls voice fades further away. I wonder what that other dude was doing. After seconds of silence you heard the knob rattle. He was just as curious

???: there is nothing to be hopeful about. I bet it's empty.

He sighed. You wanted to call out and tell him he was wrong but your throat was so dry it just scratched together in pain. Looking around you saw a folder on the desk. If I pull it things will fall and they will know someone is here. I gathered all my strength and reached my hand up. It waved around before slapping onto the folder. Then pulling my hand back I brought the binder down with me. But not realising it was just overhead it made its way down on me hitting my head before i could gather stregth to block it rendering me unconcsious.

I sat up against the door recounting the rations and tallying when I heard a noise. It was a tiny shuffle. The silence that soon followed after lead me to believe it was just my imagination.

???: great I'm letting baekhyun get to me… I swore I could have heard something

I started back to my counting when there was a crash from inside the room. I jumped up

???: is someone in there

It was silent. I started to bang on it. When I was patted from behind making me jump

Baekhyun: what are you doing

???: someone is in there

Rose: how do you know

???: I heard a noise something crashed

They looked at me crazy

Baekhyun: so a dead is there to like every other locked door no need to get excited

I was frustrated with him

???: if it was dead all that banging you did would have made it crazy. No this person is alive. They have to be

Baekhyun: and if it was alive then they would have come out maybe it was a rat or mouse

???: how would a rat or mouse get up here. They would have to come from the ground floor. That is a person and something is preventing them getting to the door

Baekhyun: and what would keep them from getting to the door

Baekhyun: whoevers office this is, they left a window open and the wind just knocked something off a shelf… that makes more sense then what you just said.

Rose: actually depending on how long the person has been in there lots of things like hunger or thirst could keep them from moving… it could happen

Baekhyun: why would they be hungry or thirsty when they have two weeks of supplies just sitting around

Rose: the dead outside the door. Maybe the person got trapped with no way out

Baekhyun: that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. 2 dead are easy to handle

Rose: then maybe it was something else like the person was injured missing a leg. They could have been a patient

Baekhyun: then we should leave them we don't need any more injured back at camp

Rose: you can't be serious. That is heartless

Baekhyun: if it was them or your sister who would you choose

Rose went silent. Of course you pick family.

???: fine if you don't want it then i get dibs

???: yeah you did. Didn't he rose

Rose: that's what I heard. All yours

Baekhyun: even if i give up dibs how would you get the door down

???: security office on the level we entered they will have keys don't you think.

Rose: your gonna go all the way back down after we fought our way up

???: sure why not the dead have never been a problem for me

Your face was patted everything was blurry

???: are you still alive

Boy: she looks dead

Girl: her eyes are opening look

There was a ringing. You just blinked

Boy: kill her she's a dead

Girl: cut that out and stand back

???: can you tell us your name

You took a breath and opened your mouth but your vocal chords just rubbed together making you cringe in pain

girl: don't speak if it hurts. See baekhyun that's one reason she couldn't let us know she was here. She has a dry throat from dehydration. Must have been in here for a couple of weeks by the look of it

Baekhyun: I am still not convinced.

As my vision fully came back I could see that the two that bickered looked hot. They could have been models before the world went to hell.

???: rose go get my water quick before she passes out again it looks like we are about to lose her

I don't know what it was about that statement but it made you laugh or at least dry chuckle. Doctor humor.

Baekhyun: she is deranged

She ran out and returned with a canteen. By then you stopped laughing. The boy whom you don't know his name lifted my upper body in his lap like I was a frail kitten. It was warmer than I have been in months. I could imagine the damage of weeks without food and water. Bone print from my skin, brittle hair, and don't get started on the smell. Oh my god do I smell. I did my best to keep this place clean which meant going outside a window. But i didn't think of my own body odor. It's been almost a month since i last showered

I looked him in the eye… I haven't brushed my teeth in over 2 weeks either. Disgusting I am disgusted. He nodded his head slowly. I opened my mouth barely tasting the wreak of my breath and little by little he poured cool crisp water in my mouth. It had rejuvenated my throat but it would be a long while before I could speak.

???: blink once for no and twice for yes. would it be okay if we got you something to eat

This is the best way to communicate for the time being. I blinked twice

???: rose get me my ration of fruit

She left and returned with fruit which he then mushed up. That first bite sent me to heaven I never knew an apple could taste so good. Where did they get apples from? Not like there was a store so they have to be growing them their self. Could there be more could they have different fruits? I wanted to scarf it all down and more but that would shock my system and cause damage. You never over feed a starving person their stomachs could literally explode. I had to force myself to turn away from the spoon.

rose: you must still be hungry weeks of starvation barely one apple couldn't have filled you

You blinked twice

Rose: then why won't you eat more. You need to gain your energy back.

She smoothed your hair which you could tell was matted. My throat still felt scratchy so I couldn't tell her. I just blinked no… it's bad enough it's a solid i should really be having porridge or rice. at least it's not an orange and i can't really be picky

Baekhyun: maybe she is tired of fruit

Baekhyun: maybe she is in pain while eating

While it did make you sore to open your jaw and chew that wasn't the case so again you blinked no

Baekhyun: then you are just being a pain in the ass

Baekhyun: then starve if you want to. I quit with the guessing game

He got up and walked out of the room

Rose: don't mind him. His blood sugar is low around this time and we don't waste rations.

Low blood pressure my ass. He seems to have that personality but she is sticking up for him. She cares for him. They are a couple and they're cute. You gestured to your desk with your eyes over and over again.She must have thought you were having a seizure

Rose: what is something wrong

You blinked no

Rose: your trying to tell me something then

Rose followed your eyes

Rose: Is there something in your desk?

You blinked twice.

Rose: what is it

You looked at her like really

???: are you slow

Rose: right sorry

She went to your desk trying to open it but it was locked. You hid them to ration it out but at a point it stopped providing the needed nutrients and just made you even hungrier. You used the strength you gained and slowly moved your hand in your pocket

???: hey just stay still okay. I will get it

He pulled your hand out and pulled the keys out of your pocket and tossed it toward rose. She then opened the desk after failing with 3 keys. She pulled out a bag of melted chocolate and hard candies. A patient had given them to me when I stitched her skull back together. I knew there was a good reason to not eat them because they were something to occupy my already starving body but this is an even better reason maybe he would calm down

Rose: hey these are his favorite chocolates. I'm gonna go give it to him. Thanks really

She ran out the room leaving you and the unknown boy

???: that was nice what you did for him… but he isn't a child and you can't reward fits

You gave a smile and he sighed

???: let's get you more water. Since there is a medical reason your not eating

???: I figured.

Way smarter than he looks. Slowly he poured more water in your mouth. After you finished the water you just kind of stayed there laying in his lap. Neither of you said anything or looked at each other. To be honest it was embarrassing and you didn't have the energy to move. You looked out the window and you had a clear view of the sky as it set. Smiling that you could enjoy another one

You swallowed the spit that was just now beginning to produce in your mouth a good sign

You felt him staring and it was making you uncomfortable and painful… you gained enough strength to sit up.

He helped you sit against the desk. You looked out the window with a better view

The boy nodded trying to make sense of my broken sentence not even a sentence like a word salad

???: your saying she died because of you… then he was attacking you so you used her being dead to kill him… so he died outside that door leaving you trapped in this room

He just keeps getting smarter. You nodded your head

You looked at him and he was serious. You sighed blinking away tears

You: I didn't stop him… all died… I didn't stop him

He looked in your eyes looking for something

???: he killed those dead trapped in all those rooms… until it was just you and him

You: i was next I should have been next

???: he was gonna kill you…

You: I couldn't… stopped him… my fault… my fault

???: there was nothing you could do… he was a mad man

You looked away and shook your head no… it was your fault for a reason you could not tell him. Rose and baekhyun walked back in the room

Rose: looks like she is better color return to her cheeks too

she smiled softly

Baekhyun: did she give you answers

???: answers to what

Baekhyun: you didn't ask her about the doctor and her in the room. I want to know everything and I won't be satisfied unless I believe it

???: don't worry about it

Baekhyun: if we are taking her back with us we should know if she is a danger she is the only one alive surrounded by a bunch of dead. Who were not beaten but starved. That is torture

Take me with them… I looked at the mysterious boy and the other two confused

Rose: you didn't ask her if she wanted to come with us she fits the bill

Baekhyun: it should have been obvious she was gonna come unless she wanted to stay here surrounded by the dead I doubt that

Everyone just looked at me.

???: you guys she almost died… she is tired as well. We will let her rest and we can talk in the morning

Baekhyun: what if i don't feel safe sleeping around her.

Rose: then i will protect you

She wrapped her arm around him

Baekhyun: you guys are joking and playing around but i'm serious she could be dangerous

???: look at her she can barely sit

Baekhyun: or that's what she wants you to think

???: fine… if she ends up killing us all in are sleep you can say you told me so okay

He walked out of the room

Baekhyun: that isn't funny you know.

He followed him out. It was just me and rose

Rose: it must be a lot to take in… you have been alone for sometime and baekhyun is eccentric

Your sentences began making sense the more you talked. It had been so long since you talked out loud. Usually you would be stuck with your thoughts or Jinyoung you would make sure he stayed near the door.

Rose: so you can speak i thought chanyeol was making that up about you telling him about the dead. Or did he

You: chanyeol?

Rose: he didn't introduce himself. men have no manners i swear. My name is Roseanne but you can call me Rose. the one that fed you was Chanyeol he is straight forward, and the loud one is Baekhyun. We came from a compound that is pretty far away but is safe. We are on a run for medical supplies you see we had a breach and there was a fire and a lot of people got hurt. We need it to help them

You nodded taking into account her tone changed and her face went serious. someone she knew got hurt. Injuries would consist of smoke inhalation, burns, open wounds, and if there was a riot fractures and broken bones. All dangerous if left untreated

You: did.. You find… whats needed

You looked at her serious

Rose: we found somethings but nothing that could make a differences besides you.

You nodded and even then i could be of no use in this state

You: the ground floor…

Rose: that is covered with dead. A door was left opened to the outside some have wandered in

This was the safe side and if they got in to this side there is no telling whats on the other side of the building. With all the real supplies and equipment

Rose: where would you keep things we would need

You: The storage rooms, ER, surgery rooms, and recovery rooms

Her face got bright

Rose: where would those be

You: I uh…

You looked around the room and then you spotted the paper from the binder that fell. You reached out for it almost falling

Rose: let me get if for you

She helped you up and then gave you the paper it was a map of the hotel

Rose: this would be helpful if we knew exactly where to look

You: pen

Rose: pen… pen

She looked over my desk and handed me one. You began circling the best place to look…

Baekhyun: what are you guys doing

Rose: quiet

You looked up and the boys had returned… you grabbed another paper and began writing a list of supplies that could be found in each.

Baekhyun: that is just in this wing

Rose: I told her about the dead so she narrowed her search to places we could reach

You: some of these rooms… will have dead… I don't remember all

I looked at the floor

Chanyeol: that doesn't matter we can handle them… this is quite a few places to look… we better get started

You: your leaving

I looked panicked… I don't want to be left alone

Baekhyun: it's not like you can help. You just created more work for us

Rose: you should be thankful. Depending on what we find we might not have to go on runs anytime soon that should put you in a better mood right baekhyun

Baekhyun: i like going on runs. I don't like fishy people

He really is bent on not trusting you. He's a guy, something all guys like… food… they have food rationed but what they can't get is unlimited junk food.

You: vending machines

Rose: what

You smiled

You: we have vending machines on every floor… a couple on each actually

Baekhyun: power is out

He rolled his eyes

You: break into them…

Rose: That is not easy. We have been to many places and the vending machines are the hardest. Especially if we don't know if any dead have wandered up here we wouldn't want to attract them

They are right. What else could we do… if only we have keys to

You: keys…

You practically yelled

Baekhyun: would be nice if we had them

You: we do so in the admin office which is the third to the left of here. You have the security keys, it will be easy to get in. third draw on the bottom of his desk

They all looked at each other

You: he liked to snack but hated paying. So he kept keys and just got free snacks whenever he wanted something. We both forgot about them in the whole mess of things.

Rose hugged you and they all began walking out. You bit your lip. It's crazy all that time you spent alone you would think you would be okay with them leaving you.

Chanyeol: maybe rose you should stay with y/n… we don't know if any dead can breach up here and we don't want to leave her for dead we could use her later

Baekhyun: it's gonna take even longer if she stays

Rose: babe just go and look very through… my sisters life could depend on it

Baekhyun: fine

They left the room. you realized you were right about the two assessments you made about her. someone she loved got hurt and she was c.ose with that boy dating.

You: you two are

Rose: dating uh yeah… he saved me and my sisters life at are old compound. Before that I wouldn't have given him the time of day. But he stuck with me while I worried about her and it just happened

I always knew when someone was dating. I was the first to spot Jihyo and daniel… I haven't thought about them in so long

You: you have a sister

Rose: We are actually cousins but we grew up together, so she is basically my sister… do you have any family

You shake your head no…your parents didn't want you leaving you on the street where you were taken to an orphanage. You worked all by yourself to get here. And then look what happened left even more alone. Life likes screwing you over

Rose: i'm sorry i shouldn't have asked i can see it's a sore subject

She wiped away a tear falling down your face. I don't know why it should matter that the world ended no one knows for sure about their family except in a few cases. I should consider myself lucky. I just have to worry about myself. But why do I want a feeling of having to worry about someone else again.
