Chills shoot down my spine as I stare at a pair of foreign eyes. My reflection appears small at the sign of a charred woman. Her scorched skin rippled with sparking embers, and blistered lips curled into a snarl. The guilt of survival clawed my throat. For once in my life, I met a spirit clinging to my existence. A reminder that I surpassed the odds of death and cheated my fate. Whimpers erupt from my throat. My body is frozen in time while the sound of my blood swims in my ears. A cruel reminder of the curse I’ve been entrusted to dwell in. So many worthy individuals met their end while mine had only begun. A piercing pain burned through my skin as the enchanting woman placed her blackened fingertips into my shoulder. Her long nails dug into my flesh fiercely. Surges of blood stain the sink cabinets as tears sprung to my eyes- watching the young woman who used every last breath to cry into my ear. “Run!” Her touch sent me crumbling to the floor with a roaring pain in my temple. The last thing I remember is splintering door hinges and two pairs of feet before me. The bare-footed singed woman, and steel-toed boots of a powerful alpha.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

TINY'S POV

My eyes fall on Cyrus who is accompanied by a large glistening grey wolf. I'm surrounded in fact. A chill runs up my spine as I realized I'm looking at an alpha who isn't my own. I've just hurt a stranger who's likely one of the alpha's warriors. I've made a horrible mistake.

I groan internally as I reached into my burlap to grab an assortment of remedies. The young wolf begins to shift and snap back into place. He's as young as I am and looks petrified. The medicine is already taking effect.

A tinge of pity bubbles in my chest. The needle is prolonged in his arm, and I carefully remove it. I pry his mouth open and place the parchment inside. Caressing his jaw, I help the young man with a chewing motion. His face twisted at the sourness, but I didn't allow him to spit it out. Squatting above his bare body, I take into account his sprawl on nervousness.

The boy tries to cover himself but to no avail. A feeling of uneasiness spread inside my chest and I host myself up higher. A common side effect of this serum is erections. Which the young man was experiencing.

Just as flustered as the young boy, I reach down and pat his face once he's chewed the majority of the remedies. This man will feel like he's walking on clouds and deficating cupcakes. "You're welcome for the free high."

I pull myself off of him and duck my head in embarrassment as I quietly slipped through the gawking crowd. Walking past the remaining wolves felt like an eternity before I began to approach Cyrus. I should be grateful that they haven't ripped my eyes from my skull, but I think they're too busy trying to figure out what I am. Without a wolf or scent, I might as well be a ghost. I grab my elk skull and attach it to my face once more.

Ignoring the much larger wolf by Cyrus's side, I extend my hand once I made it to him. My palm brushes against his soft fur as a way to say hello since his departure. I can't mind link like Silver Crest, but I always try my best to find ways to communicate.

I pull myself into the oak tree beside the two and settle in the dip between branches. I can feel a heavy glare on me from below and try to ignore it. Reaching under my coat, I pull out my handcraft bow that was securely strapped to my body. I dip the tips on my bows in a wolfsbane potent.

My eyes peel the forest apart looking for the remaining rogue when I spot him at the creek. If I'm not quick in stopping him, he could reach Mage and have the upper hand.

Aiming my bow at the end of the creek bed, I breathe quietly, "a little closer, big guy."

In order to disorient the rogue, I need to get his attention. He's only aware of the girls below who have now spotted him. He's much larger than them, and the only one close to his size is Aspen. They could overpower him but it would put them in a chance of becoming wounded in the process. He begins to move closer and I have no choice to lose an arrow.

My fingers release the thick line and watch as the arrow spins downwards to strike his paw. I reload and aim again. Determined to pluck an eye out.

The wolf turns his head in my direction scanning for his surprise. I release the second arrow aimed at his face. I watch as he yowls in pain pawing at his face. Blood slowly pours from his eyes as he holds his punctured head upwards. Unable to see from one eye.

"Gotcha," I whisper in amusement.

Disoriented and wounded, the wolf is left at the mercy of my girls. Akila prolonged her canines into his neck followed by Aspen and Mage snipping at any openings. If they're not careful, they could cut off circulation with the poison swimming inside. I can't question him about the Rogue King if he's killed first. I need to connect with the girls and remind them but without a wolf, I cannot mind-link.

I look around at my feet for anything to toss and decide on a handful of acorns. Some of the tops are broken. I know I won't be noticed if I toss it at one of the she-wolves who are busy mauling the wolf. So I turn to Cyrus and aim an acorn at his snout.

I drop it and teasingly hold another for him to see before lifting my eyes towards the girls. Thankfully he understands and provides the remainder. While watching him, I notice the gray wolf beside him who's cold eyes haven't left me.

There's something about him that leaves an unsettling feeling in my mind.
