150 Rex The

With the conversation concluded, after Miaoyi hung up the phone, Qiuying tugged at the corner of her mouth and asked, "Why The Rex? Are you sure you didn't dial the wrong number?"

"What are you thinking? I didn't dial the wrong number; it's him." Miaoyi pocketed her phone with a cheerful smile. Playfully, she ruffled Qiuying's head with a smile. After all, she was wearing a peaked cap; there was no messing up her hairstyle. "You know, "The Dodo" was still pretty popular. How could he not be here?"

Qiuying was puzzled. After pondering for a while, she finally came up with a question, "Isn't he... working as a delivery guy now? How did he become the featured vocalist for your new single? Is he making a comeback in the music scene with a new identity and approach?"

"No, I'm not entirely sure about his current profession either. When I saw him at East Records headquarters that day, I was surprised too. I realized I knew nothing about him before."

Miaoyi raised an eyebrow and thought for a moment, adopting a thoughtful expression that gave her mild nostalgia – she probably saw it on some generic anime show on Earth 1. Recollecting the situation, she continued, "Based on what he said, he seems to be wearing 'multiple hats' now. He's not just delivering packages, he's also delivering takeout, but his main role is working in a subordinate role at East Records. He makes tea, fetches water, and cleans the toilets in the signing department."

Qiuying: "..."

What kind of profession was that?

It was truly unbelievable. The once-renowned top producer of China was now cleaning toilets and making tea? Qiuying was utterly confused. Even now, she didn't understand the connection between The Rex being here and becoming the main vocalist of Miaoyi's new single. It was all so baffling.

"I'm not entirely sure what he's up to either." Miaoyi shook her head. "But he has changed quite a bit. He was an ass before, but I actually find him quite approachable now. He didn't even ask for payment when I needed a singer for my song. He worked for me for free and said he wanted to make amends."

Qiuying reminded quietly, "One violation of the no-swearing rule."

Miaoyi responded, "...You heard nothing."

Qiuying was great in many ways, but there was one thing that Miaoyi found a bit helpless. Ever since Tang Lina, her homeroom teacher/aunt, visited The Rex's home, she had reached some sort of agreement with Qiuying. Now, Qiuying acted like a loudspeaker for Tang Lina and acted like her personal assistant, at least in so far as monitoring Miaoyi.

"So why is he working as an office underling at East Records and taking on so many part-time jobs?" Qiuying still found it strange.

Just as Miaoyi was about to respond, a voice interrupted, "No other reason but money!"

Miaoyi and Qiuying's conversation was abruptly halted, causing them both to turn their heads.

Before them stood a face they were both very familiar with. He was dressed in light blue overalls, wore gloves, and had an East Records staff badge hanging from his chest.

"Hey, isn't this The Rex, the express delivery guy?" Miaoyi greeted with a wave.

The person who approached was none other than The Rex, the delivery guy who had brought a package to Miaoyi a few days ago. He had answered the question himself earlier on.

Qiuying: "..."

"I remember you didn't give me a five-star rating. So, you're not exactly a high-priority customer."

The Rex walked up, his demeanour carefree in full swing. He didn't seem to mind the fact that the two had been discussing him. He continued, "Because I'm not paid for working at the East Records headquarters. It's an unpaid internship, with the opportunity to rejoin the industry down the line. I have to find other ways to earn money; otherwise, I might have starved by now."

With a somewhat lighthearted tone, Miaoyi added, "Let me introduce you: the free underling of East Records, The Rex."

"Let's go. I'll take you in. I'm your guide for today." The Rex acted as if he hadn't heard Miaoyi's comments and didn't respond.

Indeed, the current situation was exactly as he had described. He was just a little underling in the label. He was quite comfortable with his current position and mindset.

"How's it going? How does it feel to be a free-featured vocalist for the first time?" Miaoyi asked leisurely, following The Rex as he led the way. She looked at the delivery guy in front of them, who was maneuvering through the crowd to make way for them.

It must be said that it was quite enjoyable...

Miaoyi was quite satisfied with The Rex's service.

In just a few months, The Rex seemed to have gained knowledge of many things he had never known before.

The Rex, leading the way, let out a sigh.

Perhaps now he could understand the words his teacher had said to him during the Canxing Nova Awards, as well as the so-called 'artistic virtue' that had been preached to him all along.

Yes, the reason he had appeared at the East Records headquarters was actually due to his teacher's arrangement. It could only be said that his old teacher had high expectations for him. The Rex originally thought that after such a major incident that led to him becoming the laughingstock of the electronic music world, and nearly falling into oblivion, his teacher would have given up on him.

But the reality was... that hadn't happened. His teacher had taught him a lot and had even made him understand his opponents.

After this understanding, The Rex finally saw the talent in the music of the 18-year-old girl. This led to everything that followed – The Rex appearing at the East Records headquarters as an underling, and so on.

In his teacher's words, the time when TMY forgave him and when he had matured enough to become a true musician was when he could officially return to the industry he loved.

"Anyway, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a singer this time," The Rex suddenly said to the back.

This caught Miaoyi off guard. After thinking for a moment, she finally smiled and said, "You're overthinking it. The time was tight, and I didn't have time to find other singers."

A few seconds later, Miaoyi added, "But if you really think that way, I'd be willing to be friends with you. I much prefer the person you've transformed into."

It's often said that individuals who have faced significant highs and lows, and who have truly awakened from those experiences, become the most formidable yet intriguing personalities.

"Thank you," The Rex was initially taken aback, then quickly said, "Let me introduce the place to you."

"Sure." Miaoyi nodded, her hands behind her back. Although her appearance and figure still looked cute no matter how you looked at it, this posture unexpectedly exuded a sense of calm and poise.

"This is the rest area of Zone One. Our green room is inside here, and they're in there right now."

"Then if you go forward through that special passage over there, you can go directly to the backstage of the main stage. But it's not open yet; the first performance is at 8:30." The Rex's current demeanour was somewhat like a staff member, dutiful and responsible. "What's your plan next?"

"No special plan, just enjoying the electronic music festival and dancing!" Miaoyi pondered for two seconds and suddenly exclaimed with happiness, "And for now, don't worry about any other odd jobs. Today, rehearse with me and get ready for tomorrow's performance!"

"Performance!" The Rex suddenly stopped in his tracks, and his body trembled slightly...

He stared at Miaoyi for a moment, his expression a mixture of excitement, nervousness, and disbelief. "Are you serious? Tomorrow, I'll be on the main stage performing?"

Miaoyi laughed at his reaction, nodding. "Yes, that's the plan. Don't worry, you'll do great. I've heard your voice; you're talented."

The Rex took a deep breath, a subtle smile breaking across his face. "Wow, I never thought I'd hear those words again so soon. Thank you, Miaoyi."

Miaoyi waved it off playfully. "No need to thank me. It's all about the music. Let's head to the green room now. I'm sure there's a lot to prepare for tomorrow."

As they walked toward the designated area, The Rex couldn't help but think about how his life had taken an unexpected turn. One rivalry had transformed him into a disgraced producer, then eventually into a delivery guy.

Now, he was a featured vocalist on the main stage of Ultra, singing for that very same rival. It was a whirlwind journey that he could have never predicted.

But one thing was certain – he was grateful for the opportunity of redemption, and he was determined to make the most of it.
