Electronic Musician's Transmigration

A music critic transmigrated into a world without his, now her, favourite genre. She decides to change that, with nothing but her brains, and her love for Electronic Music. As she navigates through this new world, she encounters many challenges, from fierce competition to sexist attacks. But she won't let that stop her from reaching her goals. With her quick wit, and a little otherworldly knowledge, Tang Miaoyi sets out on a journey to build her reputation and restore a lost genre to this new world. ____________ First of all, this is a translation. Other people here have tried translating this before, but no one I've seen has gotten past chapter 30. Shout out to Tenison, because they're the reason I found this novel in the first place. Second, this won't be a 100% accurate translation. I'm doing this so other people can read this book and because I love the concept of it. Of course, in typical web novel fashion, Chinese nationalism and casual sexism are rampant in the source material, so I try my best to remove that. I do make mistakes every now and then, so it won't be 100% accurate anyway, but I try my best. And since I'm basically writing fanfiction at this point, that's why it's in this section. Plus, the original author uses IRL song, place, and company names occasionally, so might as well, just to be safe lol. TLDR, It's a translation, and I'm translating loosely. I try to update at least once a day, and occasionally I'll feel a little silly and upload two. Oops! Anyway, tangent over. Hope you enjoy! (Cover by Skrecas)

Breakdance

The day's class time passed quickly, and because of her feeling badly for Lin Ruofang, Tang Miaoyi actually paid attention in class.

...

..

.

Or at least looked like she did.

Persevering until the end of school, when the bell rang she breathed a sigh of relief and attempted to escape with An Qiuying as fast as possible.

An Qiuying asked some more questions about "Closer", obviously having very high expectations for it. Tang Miaoyi wasn't bothered by her curiosity and answered her questions as they walked.

However, when the two walked out of the classroom and passed the bulletin board next to the playground, Tang Miaoyi was blocked by a massive crowd of people. The crowd filled the hallway, and almost completely blocked any escape. The group was encircling the bulletin board, with at least 20 people jammed into the small corridor.

"What are they doing?" Tang Miaoyi frowned and looked at An Qiuying confused.

"I don't know." An Qiuying shook her head, "I guess the school has posted some new announcement."

"Then there's no need to be so excited..." Tang Miaoyi was speechless: "Could it be that the cafeteria is giving out free food? Or is there a holiday soon?"

After trying to take a few steps forward, Tang Miaoyi retreated...because she simply couldn't squeeze into the crowd. A normal high schooler might be able to muscle their way through the mass of people, but "Muscle" was not an adjective that could describe Tang Miaoyi.

'Maybe I should work out a bit' She thought offhandedly.

But then the thought of a 149 cm teenager with a body like John Cena flashed through her head, and she quickly discarded the notion.

Although, would that be so bad?

...

NO!

"Let's just leave." Tang Miaoyi glanced at the group of students blocking her way with displeasure, then turned around, "Let's just use the side door."

  However...

  "Tang Miaoyi!"

Someone yelled from behind, making her stop, and look over her shoulder.

The one who stopped her was a boy with a generic appearance, who she sort of recognizes. She doesn't remember his name, though.

It must be someone from her class...

"Hello, do you need anything?" Tang Miaoyi asked.

"No... it's ok." The boy was very nervous to talk to her. Probably why she didn't know his name, "Would you like to sign up for the competition as well?"

Li Bin's heart at this moment was about to burst, but not out of attraction.

...

..

.

Ok, maybe a little, but that wasn't the main reason!

He was scared!

He was head and shoulders the most socially awkward person in their class, and he was talking to the most popular at the moment!

Anyone would be scared!

"Competition? What competition?" Tang Miaoyi, who obviously didn't know what was going on in her classmate's head (She's not a mind reader)(Yet), was confused.

"Street Dance of China!" Seeing Tang Miaoyi responding positively, Li Bin's eyes flashed with excitement, and unconsciously, his back was a little straighter than before,

"This is a TV show that Tianyou Video is making. The competition has been officially announced today, and this morning a group of people from outside the school came and put a poster on the bulletin board, saying that it's an open competition! Anyone can get a chance to be in the show, and it blew up!"

"Street dance?" Tang Miaoyi froze for a moment, as some memories flashed through her head.

Why does this name always sound familiar? Isn't it the same as "Street Dance of China" on Earth?

In her previous life, Hip-Hop had blown up, becoming the dominant music genre of Western culture, and had spread deep into Chinese media. Popular amongst the youth of China, the show, "Street Dance of China" paid homage to the various dance styles, in a gameshow-like style.

  Is this the same show?

Is this a parallel timeline? Or is this just a normal development trend of Hip-Hop culture?

Or is it just the original author referencing something in pop culture...

We'll never know!

Back to the conversation,

"Does Tang Miaoyi dance?" Li Bin asked a little shyly.

"No, I don't dance, sorry..." Tang Miaoyi shook her head and politely turned down Li Bin, and walked towards the other exit.

"..."

"So that's what the crowd is for..." An Qiuying looked at Tang Miaoyi: "By the way, it seems street dance is popular right now, right? Don't you want to participate at all?"

"I don't know how to dance at all, so how could I?" Tang Miaoyi twitched her lips.

Free time?

What is that?

She'd never heard of it.

In her eyes, if she has time to dance around, she might as well play a few more games instead...

Boring! I need to go to therapy after that talk...

As they walked away, An Qiuying noticed something,

'Is that Lin Roufang over there? Could it be that he's a street dancer?'

Tianyou Entertainment is a well-known large enterprise in China. It is an entertainment group specializing in video streaming platforms. It has a rich industrial chain and involves many fields.

After more than ten years of development, this company has experienced many storms. Unlike many before it, they survived, and in the process changed from a small streaming service to one of the leading companies at the forefront of the industry.

And "Street Dance of China" is a concept-level TV series that they plan to attract more customers, and invest a lot of money in.

However, although this series has just been officially announced and is going to be implemented, it had actually been approved a long time ago, and it has just not been revealed until then.

Because this program has had some reoccurring problems that have yet to be comprehensively solved, the schedule has been delayed from the beginning of the project to the present day.

It is delayed entirely because of the music aspect...

Although this is a hip-hop show that promotes Hip-Hop dancing, music is the second half of hip-hop. In fact, in Tang Miaoyi's old world, there were songs dedicated to specific dance moves!

And since the series is paying homage to Hip-Hop, naturally they must include Electronic Music as well. The genres are closely intertwined, and a good portion of mainstream electronic songs from 2018 onwards were Hip-Hop/Electronic, instead of the typical Pop/Electronic.

That's not to say that Hip-Hop and Electronic weren't connected before then, but there certainly was a spike in such songs at that time.

Tianyou wanted to start the show with a similar plan to Tang Miaoyi. Start with more mainstream genres, like electronic, and lure people in to get them used to the deeper genres, like West Coast Rap, Old school Hip-Hop, Rap Rock, and others.

They know what kind of electronic music they're looking for, and this world's modern Electronic music isn't good enough, because it won't attract as many people or the right kinds of people.

They searched all over China, contacted all the major producers, and went over the list sent to them by Light Cloud, but the production team still felt that something was missing.

In a branch building of Tianyou Entertainment Company in Shanghai, a young man in a suit and leather shoes was hurrying towards a meeting, holding a stack of documents and a tablet computer.

He was determined to create a completely different show than those on the market. Naturally, he had to get the best producers to do so, but in the list, no one producer stuck out from the others.

Except for one...

The meeting had begun.

The projector was turned on, and instantly the lights dimmed, and a page of information appeared in front of the screen.

[Electronic Music Producer: TMY.]

[Representative work under his name: "Fox".]

[Personal details:?]

[China DJ Rating Association file: No such person found.]

[Contact information: *phone number*, communication account, @TMYisMe; Weibo.]

"TMY? Why is this producer so unfamiliar?"

"There is no information at all, and there is only one work under his name, and even the Chinese DJ Rating Association has no files... a newcomer?"

"Are you sure this is the right person?"

The meeting was naturally skeptical.

"Don't worry, everyone, I had the same doubts at first." The young man smiled slightly.

When he saw this TMY profile for the first time, wasn't he in the same position as his colleagues here? He even had doubts about whether Yang He's list was wrong, and whether that person was added because of a typing mistake.

"I have a video file here. You can take a look at it first. It is the promotional video of TMY's work "Fox"

A minute passed, and the meeting fell silent after the last note rang out.

"I think, the fate of our show has been decided."

The meeting ended with a unanimous vote.
