chapter 3-A lost or a win

I noticed two other figures pass me as I lay on my backpack, facing the roof. These people had been in my class for six years. They were used to how Tommy and I acted, but that didn't mean they liked it.

"Dude, you're eighteen. You need to get your act together, be better, dude," Khaza said. His father, an African American, moved to Australia and married an Aboriginal woman, and he was the result. Dark skin, braided hair, jacked but not as much as Tommy, chill in class but a loud cunt outside. He often hung out with his vaping buddies and even sold vapes to kids younger than him in the bathroom. He was a fiend, not a friend,he walked past.

On the other hand, the other guy was Maxwell Hollied. Blonde curly hair, had that Aussie slang and accent, a wannabe eshay. He was only good at two things: footy and surprisingly, being poetic. He had one of the highest marks in English. Too bad he wasted his life by hanging out with the wrong people, probably trying to be an electrician. He kept to himself and walked past.

Staying like this won't help. It's inhumane and degrading. I may be freaky, but not that freaky.

"I swear you guys do this every time," A girls hand reached out. A blonde-haired girl said, "Maddie, thanks." I said as I grasped her hand, pulling me up. She was Maxwell's cousin Maddie Hollied.

She wasn't the typical dumb blonde girl. I knew her since I started high school at the same time. She was a nerd, not in the smart type, but more into gaming and cartoon shows. She had probably the worst attachment issues I had ever seen. If her favourite character died, she would break down. If she finished a game, she would break down.

She was chill for the first two years I knew her until she changed friend groups, wanting to be one of the popular girls. I don't know why she isn't friends with Ellie, though they have a lot in common.

"Yo, when I walked in, did you see that table over there? It's perfect. It's totally dungeons and dangers accessible gameplay. Later tonight, let's play. I'm already sick of marshmallows and bush tucker, and horror stories. Now, this is a chance for fun," Maddie suggested.

I wasn't a fan, per se, but the chance that Ellie might have a go seemed like a prospect I was willing to take.

"Good bloody fantastic. I'll get the boys, and Ellie, are you joining?" I said, glancing toward Ellie, reaching for the door handle of the female room. She stopped and glanced back.

"Role-playing games aren't my strong suit, but...," she hesitated.

"But what?" I asked.

"Do you have any MM&MM snacks?" she said, grinning.

Damn, how did she know? Before I could react, Debbie said, "What's this about snacks?" She either had the best hearing in the world, or I had "I have snacks" written on my back.

"Dude, Thomas placed a paper on your bag a couple of seconds ago. It literally says, 'Who needs a backpack when you have a snack pack on your back?'" Maddie explained.

Forty-five minutes later, the group had settled in after the drama and I had to deal with an earful from the instructor herself. But afterwards, she gave permission to Maddie to use her Dungeons and Danger collection to host a game on the table tonight after dinner.

"For the last activity of today's trip we will make dishes, in  duos  This is what it means when fan meets fan—it's a tornado hurricane for everyone else. I'm joking; I was the one who came up with that, and it held truth ever since."She said.

"Before the game tonight, we need to do the last activity for the day: making a dish for dinner. The rules are simple. I have three requirements: use whatever is in the fridge."

I didn't know why Debbie insisted on this rule, especially since Tommy and I had brought snacks and food just in case.

"And the second rule is that a duo needs to cook tonight. Third, tomorrow, a different duo has to cook."

We all stood around what seemed to be a cup of ice pop sticks.

"There are two in there that have been highlighted, so whoever draws the two highlighted ones will be cooking and washing up."

We nodded in agreement. I reached for a stick, as did everyone else, and we drew the ones we chose.

"Seems like we have our winners—or more like losers, haha," Debbie laughed.

I was infuriated at that, but fair is fair, I guess.

I looked to see who my duo was, and it was Ellie. Maybe my luck wasn't as bad as I thought.
