5 : Family

" We're safe, for now. "

I told them and we rest.

Suddenly, I woke up and saw Felix driving.

" I'll drive, you rest. "

We stopped for a second and then I went in the driver's seat.

" This place is really quiet. I've been driving for hours. "

I was talking to myself then I hear Stella woke up.

" Oh, you're awake. Sorry for being too loud. "

She went in the front seat and we talked.

" So brother Lucas... he's.. gone. "

She became sad and I explained everything to her. I can tell that she's upset by her look. I understand her but this is where real life begins.

Before the sun rises up, we changed seats again. I lost track of time and accidentally slept.

The next morning

" We're here. Wake up. "

I opened my eyes and saw them all outside.

Few stretches and I went out the car too.

" Good morning everyone....where are we? "

They all went in the path and it leads us to a barn. I can see crops, animals and a family.

" Chris, this is a friend of mine. They're Kira, Chad and George. "

" Hi everyone! You guys are welcome here! Come inside. Let's talk there. I'm glad that you're back Felix. We are glad. "

They seem to be friendly.

We went inside and they prepared a meal for us.

" Oh thank you for the meal. I'm really glad that I know you guys. "

Felix thanked them then one of his friend asked him.

" Are you still in the group? You're just visiting with your friends? There's a little girl, we'll take care of her... If you want? "

Then I joined their conversation.

" No, sorry she's my sister. "

They smiled and Felix explained what happened yesterday.

After the meal, I went in the restroom and washed my face. I still don't understand what's happening.

I went to Felix and we chatted.

He offered me a glass of beer. I took it and he started talking.

" Well, there's some creatures... uh they're human but they've been infected. That's why we call them infecteds. They're really dangerous. If they bit you, you're done. You'll be infected too and within an hour, you turn too.

You don't want that to happen to you and your family don't you? "

Now I understand everything. That's why the reporter was attacked. They interviewed an infected.

" But, uh what happened to your family? Where are they? Let's go find them. "

I suggested it to him then he became silent for a second.

He stood up too and went back inside.

I finished my beer and then went back in the house.

But before I open the door, I heard some noises in the barn.

I went inside the barn and saw Chad smoking in the corner.

" Oh hi new guy. What do you need? I'm kinda busy here. "

I saw a blood in his clothes but I didn't asked him about that.

" Nothing, just checking the horses. They're cool aren't they? "

He smiled.

" Yeah they are cool. Now goodbye new guy. "

He closed the door and I went back in the house.

" Oh Stella, hello there. "

She hugged me and we talked.

" Brother, I'm bored. "

I smiled and lowered my voice.

" Don't do anything weird here. I don't want you to get into trouble. Plus, did you know where Samantha go before you guys were captured? "

Her eyes seems to be shocked.

" Oh... oh no.. I- she tried to escape them and she succeeded I think, but after that, I heard gunshots and they covered my eyes. "

I told Stella to go chat with our mother.

My heart were besting fast. I went to Felix and ask him if he saw Samantha.

" No clue. I'm staying in the base while you guys were being captured. "

" Oh no... I told her that I would protect her... but I failed her...for the second time.... "

He asked me,

" Who is she? Your sister too? Auntie? "

" No, she's my ex girlfriend. She went in our house because she needed help. Then I told her that she can come and I'd protect her. But I failed her... "

I was too angry that I already smashed a picture frame.

" Chill. We'll find her, don't worry. "

But I told him the story what Stella told me earlier.

" Crap, it's not your fault. Don't be guilty. We'll avenge her death too. "

I went upstairs and just sat in the bed until the night.

Then I went outside silently.

I was about to check Stella if she's resting

but then didn't expected with what I saw.
