17 Chapter 17: Frankenstein

After they were unsuccessful in finding the rabbit, the two goblins returned to the scene of the battle. With the help of the other two goblins, they carried the two beaten-up goblins.

The seven goblins that were stationed at the portal were shocked to see the two banged-up goblins. One was coughing up blood, while the other had a darkened shoulder and back.

With the child's order in effect, the four goblins brought the two goblins inside the portal. They then pushed the goblins into the dungeon core. The core rippled, and the two were pulled into the center.

Once the two were in his core, he let out a sigh.

"One of the goblins died."

The goblin that was hit on the back had a spinal injury. On the way, the goblin had died. Meaning that he was now one goblin down. But he wasn't sad about it's death. Because of its death, he could get something new to research. After all, this was the first goblin to die, he was curious how it's body reacted compared to normal.

As for the other goblin, it only suffered a broken rib and some damage to its internal organs. It too would have died if the injury had not been taken care of soon enough.

But since it was now in his care, the likelihood of it dying was very low. As with his Ether and third-order energy, repairing its body isn't too hard. It's only a matter of putting back its bones and healing the torn parts. Nothing a bit of life type, Ether, and I can't fix it.

After the goblin was healed, the child did not waste time and threw it out of his core. With a splash, the goblin fell into the shallow water. With a start, the goblin regained consciousness. It got out of the water, and the first thing it did after was check its ribs. It was surprising that it had not died. The other goblins in the cave-like interior were no different. They were curious about the 'how' and if the same would be done to the other goblin. But under the child's orders, they could only leave and go outside.

With the other goblins now gone, the child now had the time to look at the dead goblin. But what he wanted to see was not the fleshly body but instead the core. or, more specifically, the consciousness.

"It truly has disappeared."

This was a bit of a bummer. As long as the goblin's consciousness was still intact, he could technically revive the goblin. Since after death, a body isn't truly dead,

If a tree were cut in half, the upper part would still live for a while before true death. Sure, a goblin was different from a tree, but the same should be possible. The only thing the child found troubling about reviving the goblin would be the brain. As its components are more delicate and complicated.

But it seems like the root part was gone from the beginning, so revival...

"Should still be possible. If I can just input another consciousness into the body, I can then reuse this body and core, right? This would save third-order energy in the long run."

It was a thought, a thought the child saw worthy of trying out. So within the core of the dead goblin, the child used the same method he used when making goblins to form a consciousness.

But although the consciousness was fully formed, it was unable to connect to the body at all.

"Why isn't it working?" the child asked himself. He used his Ether and third-order energy to try and help the new consciousness reconnect to the dead body, but no matter how much he tried, he always failed. He has even healed the body as much as he can. Such that it could house life.

"Hmm, I see," the child mused after all these attempts. "The concuousness seems to have an innate reaction towards repositioning. It is as though the body and consciousness have a certain frequency that they must be on in order to be synchronized. But since I can't control the formation of consciousness that much, I can't change this frequency. But I also can't change the frequency of the body. I can't even sense it."

So the child can only create a new body with a specific frequency for consciousness. But what's the difference between that and creating a completely new goblin?

"If only I could get the consciousness of a dead goblin, I could then make a body specifically for it."

But the problem is that the consciousness will dissipate a few minutes after death. And moving the dead body does not help keep the consciousness together.

"The dead body would have to be close for me to immediately take the consciousness and reconstruct a new body for it."

But since the goblins are working outside and far from him, it was not possible to do that. By the time the goblins arrived, it would have been too late. And if they are close, there would be no need to create a new body. He could just heal and resuscitate the dead body on the spot with some shock therapy.

So, the child's plan to recycle dead goblins had gone up in a bust. If it were possible, he could have used the dead bodies or concuousness to save on third-party energy costs. But since consciousness dissipates too fast and a dead body cannot be reused, it is not possible.

"But what should I do with this body?"

The child thought He could absorb it, leaving no trace of it behind, but that doesn't make much sense. The energy he would get from it is not much. Once third-order energy is used, it's hard to reuse it.

"Then how about I try a little experiment?"

The child thought of a certain story from his past life. The story of a man who wished to create an art of only the gods He wanted to create life!

He used the bodies of different men and stitched them together. Then, with the help of a thunderstrike, he brought the creature back to life.

Yes, this is the story of Frankenstein. It was a fictional story, and a story that has been changed a dozen times before. If it were in his past life, he would have just passed it off as a good story and left it there. But where he was wasn't earth anymore. In this world, magic existed. So the child wondered.

"Could I be able to revive this body?"

To him, it seems a bit unlikely, but it was worth a try.

"Then let's begin with how Frankenstein did it."

After all, he was more interested in researching revival than reviving the goblin itself. So he should try the less obvious choice first. He thus first fused light and fire-type ether to create thunder. Or a similar ether component.

Using the thunder, the child electrocuted the goblin in the right places. hoping to at least awaken it from its eternal slumber. After a few jolts of thunder, the goblin's heart finally started pumping.

"It worked."

But the child wasn't too surprised. After all, he had healed all the injuries of the dead goblin before he electrocuted it. He had even used life-type ethyl to rejuvenate its body cells. If an autopsy was done on the body, the results would indicate that the deceased had just died a few minutes ago.

It was only because its bodily functions no longer worked as they used to that it could still be considered dead. With a little shock, it would come back to life. The only problem is that without consciousness, it's still dead. It can't use its brain to control its body and would ultimately die.

"This could be considered a failure. But let's try the magic route."

Once again, part of his Ether was singled out. It first transformed into dark-type Ether, but then went further, transforming into an ash gray form.

Death-type ether!

The child was a bit inexperienced using this form, so he wants to know how to use it. He thus just willed it to seep into the body. After not having much of a reaction, he converged it into the core of the goblin. Or, to be more exact, in the now empty space where consciousness resides. But this time, he got a response.

The goblin corpse started writhing and struggling. It spasmed and moved like crazy. After a little while of this happening, the goblin's heart stopped. It stopped shaking, but more than before, the child sensed 'life' in the corpse.

"I have successfully created a zombie."

The goblin zombie moved and growled. But as it was stuck in his core, there was no way it was getting out or making a sound.

"But this can also be considered a failure. Although the goblin is somewhat alive, its use is much worse than that of the usual goblin. After all, it can't use a sword or do any planning. But with lower combat power, it also brought complete control. This zombie goblin is unlikely to disobey my order. If it can understand the order, that is."

But since the zombie goblin was still not necessary for the time being, the child just absorbed it completely.

"What I should be focusing on is killing that rabbit."
