Ch 4:The Negotiation

" As none of us is fond of wasting time, I'll get to the issue. I'm sure Talon brought my proposal to you guys "

Here there are nods from everyone and I continue with their tacit agreement on that front, which itself says more as their very arrival in the clearing is a display of trust, something that I cannot lose

" I'll start with Abra's group. If there is any one of you that feels like backing out, then you can do that now. "

As soon as the words get out, an Abra nods to the others and teleports away but there are still two left in the clearing ' Thank god, I have a chance to at least convince them '

I look to the other two and continue where I left off, watching their every expression for my words " If you guys are still here, then I'm going to assume that you guys are interested in being trained. So I'll break it down for you guys and this is the reason why I asked every pokemon for their presence as well "

All of them look towards me, the pack in general seeming mighty interested as to what the real reason was, But I believe that I have a pretty good reason for it

" Within the next three years, In the eyes of my society, I will be able to legally travel this world with pokemon beside me as a pokemon trainer. Generally, a trainer is given his starter-his first partner by the authority at the start of the year and this starter is generally a stranger to them. That is not ideal to me "

Here one of the Pidgeot asks me via the help of Psy

" Why is it not ideal for you? As both are strangers they are on a neutral basis. Isn't a relationship raised from that level worth something?"

And another tweets its own question " Or do you think you are special or something? '

I shake my head while answering them

" No I'm not special, I know that. But while a relationship born of such a situation is indeed special, sometimes that relationship is born out of need than actual free will."

I know this might not go well, but I need to get my point across and this will indeed get that part done, So I say something harsh and realistic

" Let's be real for a moment. Each and every group here has seen many trainers catch pokemon in front of you. It might have been someone you only saw once, It might have been your young or elderly, It might have been someone you hated or loved but you have seen it "

As my words progress I can't help but tense at the growl that one of the Arcanines let out, the fact that the flock's gaze now had a certain harsh glint to it certainly did not calm me. But I spoke this for a reason and I have to finish speaking, despite Psy's mental advice to ' knock it off '

" How many of them were truthfully content with what happened? Were they lucky or unlucky? Some people treat pokemon like family, some like machines and some people just see pokemon as a means to an end, who only see numbers and profit instead. These people can be harsh despite their ways, they can separate families and end families without remorse or guilt within themselves, I'm sure most of you will agree with me when I say that these people are to be avoided "

Seeing as Psy hasn't teleported me out or given out more psychic advice to me, I think I can continue safely as long as I don't anger them with something really dumb

So I take a few breaths and gesture at all of them

" How the hell should I know if my pokemon starter was acquired by these bastards? How should I continue if my starter refuses to fight? Or if we meet its family and want to go back? I'm not heartless to deny someone their kin or home. But I'm also not dumb and know that a kid like me is walking lunch for both parts of this world."

Seeing as none of them are interrupting I guess I've made an alright impression on them, which is not that hard as even if I'm not the purest of hearts, I sure as hell ain't the devil

" Basically this is because I did not feel like dealing with this drama. There will be some of you or someone you know that is open to the idea of travelling with a trainer."

Here I make a stage bow and look at each of them

" Here is a trainer that is actually asking you guys if you want to come with me. True, I will only be taking certain pokemon but I'm being upfront about it. I'm being honest about it. I can only officially catch pokemon after three years, so judge me! Give me a chance to show you guys that I'm honest in my words "

Here the pack leader finally breaks his silence and Psy conveys his words

" We do acknowledge your words, we do acknowledge your points. You will have your chance but if you betray this trust I give to you, then you will die "

" I say what I plan on doing. All a person has is his own actions, not riches or glory, just memories he leaves behind in this world and I plan on leaving behind the memories of a decent person when I depart, On both sides of species and all across the board "

My words seems to have passed some test as the Arcanine that flanked the pack leader nodded its head at my words and the pack begin to eat the food which led to every pokemon starting as well

' Was that like a heartbeat test like in the teen wolf? Can they do that? I guess with their physique that's possible. You know what, I passed it, let's just stop there '

The flock leader asks her question after taking a few seconds of watching her flock eat

" Talon informed me that the flock was more like a beneficial relationship with you than the one you intend for the pack "

Her words may not have been accusing or even have bad intentions but her words can have a negative impact on the audience, so I need to stay on top of it

" Yes, That is because I wish to take one of the pack's members with me as a partner. While the flock certainly will have birds who can pass my criteria and your line while amazing battlers and powerful fliers are not the ones that I wish to start out with. "

Seeing some of them puff up their chest to berate me I get my reason out as well

" Like I said you guys are amazing birds, powerful that every kid knows that your line is a sure way to have a great air combatant. But there is a technique that I wish my bird will master, a technique whose limits that I want to see and your line regrettably like many others cannot truly take this one to great heights "

Here the flock leader speaks " And what it is this technique which we cannot master? "

" It's a technique that I've taken to call Air lens, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed it and I'm sure they have created their own techniques based on the effect, but this is my version of it and I'm calling it Air lens. "

As every pokemon looks interested I describe the technique which we first encountered in the pokemon fanfic- Traveller which was an amazing story and a technique like this was scientifically and theoretically possible

' That's what I think at least '

" The first thing that you should know is basic facts.

Birds who can fly have certain hollow bones supporting their wings, this is how they can achieve lift and fly. You might have noticed how birds like Skarmory or Corviknight have great difficulty reaching the speed others can. Essentially the more your mass is the greater the wingspan necessary to support you in the air, while greater mass guarantees a certain advantage in diving, that is it. Are you guys following along? "

I look at them to see if they have understood what I'm saying and each of them nods which is expected because this isn't rocket science but common sense

" Right so we take that fact and hold it, so fliers such as Skarmory are out.

We know that flying types are at a general disadvantage against Ice types, Rock types and Electric types. Let me walk you through why that is "

Here every member of the flock is paying great attention to what I'm saying, each of them has their eyes stuck on me as if I was the juiciest worm right now

" We talked about your hollow bones, hollow bones are those bones which are filled with air and this shape facilitates oxygen intake during flight, essentially strength with minimum weight. Rock type and said attacks of said energy have greater mass than your bodies can shrug off and that is why flying types have a certain weakness to them, the same principle applies to the Electric pokemon and that energy as well. The exceptions are those birds that have sub type of either rock or ground "

When I finished speaking some of the older pokemon and most younger ones looks enlightened as to why this was the case

' I mean that's okay because all they really needed to know in the wild was it would hurt and thus should be avoided '

" Birds have a high metabolism rate, not the highest but high. When you are in low temperatures your body works overtime to maintain your metabolism and body temperature and thus requires more energy than usual. However, Ice energy attacks generally form ice and introduce your body to low temperatures without any forewarning and maybe only in a certain place on your body. Feathers themselves are not that good at combating cold so you can see why that would be a problem "

That might not have been the best scientific explanation for why birds have a weakness to Ice-type but it's the only one I got. Thankfully it seems that it's enough for them

' Which is great news for me '

I gather their attention again and continue my explanation

" Now while I cannot truly combat your weakness to Rock-type, Air lens can perhaps greatly minimise your weakness to Electric and Ice types "

At this point, every Pokemon here is curious as to what I'm talking about. Even the Pack leader and Flock leader are not impervious to it

" Great temperature affects electricity, the great part can be hotter or colder but it will affect electricity. But that leaves Ice-type weakness, now just as water Pokemon are not weak to water, the same principle applies to all elements. There is a bird called Delibird who is a flying-Ice type Pokemon who cannot fly like you guys. So now you know why that is not an option "

They understand enough to know that Delibird is not an option to be a great air combatant which is enough to assure me they understand the temperature part of my explanation. So I take a deep breath and explain the technique to them

" The technique Air lens theoretically will be able to be mastered by Pokemon who are Fire type. " Here I look at the pack and ensure they are paying attention to my next words

" The technique involves a corona of high temperature around the body, theoretically a temperature high enough will cause electric attacks to fizzle away or lower their intensity greatly. Unless your opponent is vastly stronger than you, but that means that they don't really need the advantage. "

Judging by that glint in the pack leader's eye, there is going to be a lot of experiments on their behalf towards this technique ' And I'm all for it, even if they don't get me a partner I will get a technique tutor out of it '

The flock is interested as well but most of them know they can't support high temperatures like that casually so their excitement is muted

Seeing as most of the elder birds have come to the same conclusion I had, I speak again

" So now we come to the reason why I say you cannot really master this technique. Your body cannot maintain that temperature like fire types."
