In the 24th minute, Bennet managed to get rid from David Silva's marking. He then passed the ball to Kazuki. Kazuki's position was too down, so he chose to give the breakthrough pass to Wright-Phillips.

On the left, Wright-Phillips received the ball then flicked the ball forward. When Zabaleta tried to steal the ball, Wright-Phillips changed the direction of the ball, then he crossed the ball to the right of the Manchester City defense. Ryan entered the penalty box and gave the first-time shot. Too bad, Lescott calmly blocked Ryan's kick.

Corner-kick was given to Southampton. Ryan took the corner kick. The Southampton players began to gather in the Manchester City penalty box. The referee blew his whistle, Ryan then kicked the ball. Southampton players jostled for the ball. Kompany headed the ball out of the penalty box succesfully. Toure received Kompany's header then he turned around and dribbled the ball quickly.
