“Uh, Dany, about Hong Kong,” Kar began, but Daniel quickly cut him off.
“Kar, didn’t you promise Frank to hunt down some new ingredients?” he asked, trying to keep his voice light. “I’ll bet he can do some strange experiments with Welsh rosewater.”
Karden furrowed his brow but nodded. “Yeah, I did,” he said slowly.
John glanced at his watch. “I can give you a ride, if you like. I have to meet with officials to talk over rights and use of the codex.” He leveled a look at Daniel. “Lawyers, labs, and financial liquidity—the true backbone of all antiquity,” he said.
“Why John, that was practically poetry,” said Karden. “Or at least the beginning of a dirty limerick.” He turned to Daniel and gave a tentative smile. “You sure you’re okay here?” he asked.
“Of course,” Daniel said, pushing a smile on his lips. Powering up the laptop, he pretended to become quickly engrossed in the files.
“Okay,” said Kar with hesitation. “I’ll see you in a bit.”
