9 Chapter 9 “And to tell you”
Yuan Mendez POV
I still don't understand what was happening…
"I told you, you should know her more." Loren said, appearing out of nowhere
"What's happening?"
"Ivy's probably leaving, why don't you accompany her…"
I saw ivy walking down the aisle towards the exit. I waited for her at the entrance of the church. She saw me standing there. She turned around and took a glance at the two at the front.
"Miss Ivy" I said concerned, whether she needs a company.
I saw her eyes welling up with tears. Is she perhaps heartbroken? But her smile says the otherwise as she looked at the two in front.
"have you heard?" she suddenly spoke
"About what?" I said
"The one who wears the crown bears the weight."
"What do you mean?"
"As the Heir, he couldn't be with his true love so he ran from home stopped connecting with his parents that's when I totally lost contact of him, he supported himself for those years, he's been with her through all those years , she's his strength, but she also became his weakness. She's terminally ill and in order to save her, he has to leave her side and come back to his father's company to ask for a medical support for her, his father asked him to save the company and to fulfill a promise between our dads and that is to have us married to each other, that's why he asked to marry me even though we both knew we love each other in a different way."
She paused and smiled while looking at Yang dearly. Then she continued.
"Look at the weights we carry just because we wear the crown, we may have a huge Kingdom we run but it comes with a great responsibility. The reason why I agreed is that, I know Yang would be a perfect husband. If I would marry someday, he would probably be the perfect one and for the fact that they helped us before when our company was in a bind. I was just returning the favor, but I couldn't tie my brother down into a vow that's going to hurt us both in the long run. I told his parents what I thought about this marriage and what I really felt for Yang, I offered to help Golden Dragons on the top of my ability. Gladly, they understood where I am coming from. He's very precious to me, I do love him, he's the other half of me, we're like twins… Seeing him happy now is more than enough…"
After hearing that, my heart was touched, and it ached at the same time. Her love for Yang is beyond comparable. Her sincerity will move your soul. She's the purest person I ever met. She loves the people around her unconditionally. I believe this is the reason why it's not difficult to love her. Her personality will make you fall for her more.
"Mind if you drive?" she threw her car keys at me which I was able to catch.
"To where?"
"I'm going home…" she smiled…
She walked towards her car and I opened the door for her. It's too quiet.
"If you're Happy then why are you crying?" I said trying to break the silence.
"I know he'll be hurt, if only the heavens could prioritize my prayers to bestow a miracle on her."
"What do you mean?"
"She has pancreatic cancer, stage 4. The doctor says she only has few months to live. I don't want Yang to be left broken, I never went to church since, 5 years ago but for Yang, he made me hope she'll experience a miracle."
Yang's impact in Ivy's life is definitely more than I thought off, I wish I could impact her life in the same way.
"Yuan, I booked you a ticket to fly with me to Korea tomorrow."
"What?!"
"I need an assistant for my meeting with an investor in Korea."
"I see…"
"We'll be flying tomorrow at 10 am"
We arrived at the villa.
"Miss Ivy!!" her house maids were shocked that she was back soon even though it's her wedding day.
"Someone, call Lady Min and have her picked up by the driver. Ahh! Bring me a bottle of wine in the garden."
"Yes miss!"
"Yuan, would you like to join me for a bottle of wine?"
"if it's fine with you" maybe, somehow, she needed someone to talk to.
We went to the garden and the maids brought a good quality of wine.
"hmmm… Hahahah!! Those girls might have thought I'm broken hearted today, they brought one of my favorite wine."
But she does look sad
"Well, maybe I am! I lost my husband-to-be…"
I looked at her, surprised!! Maybe she must have really fallen for him and she just denies the fact and convince herself that it a was just a brotherly love.
"Kidding!!"
"Miss Ivy…"
"Ahh!! I got used to calling you by your name alone, just call me Ivy…"
"Huh?!?" I was shocked!!
"Isn't it fair? Besides we're of the same age."
"Right!"
Her emotions are soft today, I've been wanting to call her just by her name.
"Ivy can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead…"
"It might be a little sensitive, would it be fine?"
"I'm sure I can keep up."
"okay, If I… On that day… ummm"
She looked at me waiting for my question
"If I haven't done that to you that day, do you think we could be good friends?"
"You mean five years ago?" her face hardened
"yeah…"
"When I came and waited for you, all I wanted was to tell you even though you would turn me down, of course it would have been nice if you turned me down nicely… but it didn't happen. I was expecting you wouldn't like me, because you don't know much about me and I know you just broke up with your girlfriend and when I think of it, she was very pretty and I'm just simple me."
She said she was ready that I would turn her down. She also said my ex was very pretty compared to her, but when I think of it now? She's all any guy would want. She's very pretty both in and out.
"If you've turned me down nicely? we could have been friends…"
"Is it too late to be friends now?"
"Us?!" she stopped and thought for a while…
"late… I know… I'm part of a huge pain..."
"They say emotional pain would most likely heal way faster if the one who caused the pain would be there. I don't want to be in pain anymore. Let's be friends…"
I'm very glad she's willing to give me a chance. A chance to help her forget the pains and to make up for what I did to her…
We had a good talk last night and now I am packing for my sudden trip to Korea, I'll pick Ivy at the Villa later.
Yin Ivy Lee's POV
"Lady Min, Is Ivy not ready yet?"
"First name basis? She'll scold you if she hears you"
I heard them talk downstairs
"I told him to just call me by my name…"
"Please take my bags to the car" I said to the maid
"Put it on my car please…"
"Are we not using my car?" I said
"Ivy we can't leave your car on the parking lot of the airport it's dangerous for your car…" he chuckled
"I mean your cars are very expensive, we never know what might happen"
"Okay…"
"Miss Ivy your bags are at the car…"
"good let's go…"
We arrived at the airport.
"I'll bring out our luggage Ivy."
"I'll wait at the entrance"
"Okay…"
It's kinda new hearing him call me without 'Miss'
"Ivy…" he said and I saw him struggling with our bags…
"I'll take care of mine just mind your own luggage"
"No! no! Its heavy just lead the way."
Oh!? He's acting weird again!!
After waiting in-line we finally got to check our baggage in. We're just waiting for the plane to arrive.
"Ivy, I'm going to buy some food what would you like?"
"I'm fine…"
"I'll be back…"
I nodded in response

Aish!! I planned to eat on the plane, I should have just told Yuan to buy some food for me. I grabbed my stomach because it growled.
"hahaha! Good thing I bought something for you. Belgian waffles and a mango smoothie…"
I just looked at him, I'm ashamed he must have seen me grabbed my stomach.
"I saw you grabbing your stomach, the flight will be delayed, so you won't be able to eat on the plane just before you faint because of hunger, if you don't like this, I'll buy whatever you want…"
He turned around
"wait, I'm good with that…"
I reached my hand so he would give me the food…
"When I heard the flight got delayed, I just ordered another set of what I ordered, I'll do better next time, mind if you tell me what you like to eat or not so I would know?"
Oh!? What's this?! Is he acting sweet and concerned all of a sudden?
"Come on! we're friends, aren't we?"
He's sure is fast with everything, didn't we just reconcile yesterday? I mean yeah! I'm giving our friendship a chance but sharing information this fast, hmmmm... I'm not yet used to it.
"Ummm… I'm not yet comfortable talking to you like this."
"Oh��� okay I'm sorry I went overboard…"
"I don't have a lot of friends aside from Loren and Yang, I'm not used to talking casually…"
"I see…" I saw his expression and it became gloomy…
"Yuan, I'm glad that you're trying to approach me. I think I'll be able to heal through this process"
"I'll help you as much as I can."
We waited for an hour until the aircraft arrived, we board on the plane and it took off. I slept for the whole period of the flight.
"Ivy we should get off the plane now…"
"We've arrived already?!"
He nodded and he helped me get up. Oh! he's quite a gentleman today.
"You slept soundly didn't you get enough sleep last night?"
"I have an insomnia. I've been suffering from it since…"
"Five years ago?" he finished my sentence
"yeah…" he turned his gaze away from me and he looked guilty and now I felt guilty for telling him too…
"The hotel's shuttle will pick us up… please secure the case with all the documents"
"I've got them here…"
"That must be our shuttle…"
"Go ahead, I'll take care of our bags first…"
"Are you sure?"
"yeah…"
I nodded and went inside the shuttle…
We arrived at the hotel and went separately on our own rooms.

'What are we going to do today?'
"We'll drop by the Zen technologies to inform them our arrival and check our schedule for tomorrow."
'Okay…'
"Meet me at the hotel lobby at 3 pm."
"copy!"
I rested for a while and checked the documents, it's already 3 pm I rushed down and I saw Yuan waiting, sitting at a table on the lobby.
"Yuan, let's go…"
We went to Zen technologies
"We're from Lotus group of companies we're supposed to have a meeting tomorrow with Mr. Choi…"
"Ahh yes! Your schedule for tomorrow is 9 am…"
"Thank you we'll be here tomorrow."
"Is that all our schedule for today?"
"Yeah…"
"Let's go around?" he said
"Huh?"
"Come on!" he grabbed my wrist
Oh!!! How dare!!
"Yuan…"
"I looked at his hands holding my wrist"
"I'm sorry…"
So, we toured around Seoul until it got quite dark…
"Wanna go to Namsan tower? I heard it's pretty at dusk"
"Let's give it a try…" I said
We went at Namsan tower and like what he said it's really pretty at night and I can't deny that fact.
"Wow… It's really pretty up here…"
"I know, very beautiful."
I looked on my left where Yuan was standing and I caught him smiling while looking at me and I felt weird…
"Ivy… I'm really sorry, for what happened five years ago I sincerely regret doing that to you. Also, I wanted to tell you something… I hope you won't change., what I mean is I hope how we are now doesn't change whatever it is I'm gonna tell you…"
I feel that he's really nervous based on his trembling voice.
"I didn't expect that I would feel this way. I think I like you Ivy…"
I was baffled by the situation I didn't expect this, so I just stared at him trying to hear more out…
"I-I know that this sounds ridiculous, because we had a really bad start, I was the first one to turn you down and now here I am telling you that I like you, I know it sounds funny but I have to say it anyway, when I was getting to know you more, I feel different day by day. If you want to slap me, hit me, like how I turned you down before do it."
I still can't process what's happening…
"wait! Just keep silent for a moment, I need to digest what you said…"
He stayed silent but he kept on looking at me…
"So, you're telling me you like me? Why? When? How? I- but you turned me down years ago!"
"I know, I swallowed everything I did to you It was because of my poor judgment I didn't know you were different. That's why when I got to know you more you seemed like a different person, I didn't know when these feelings started to grow but… Ivy I know I was part of that big pain in your heart, but can you give me a chance? I want to make it up to you."
I don't know how to react to this…
"I can't answer you now… I'm confused…"
I walked away and he was walking right behind me I entered a gift shop looking for some wine, it will help me sleep tonight…
"Ivy…"
"Yuan, I really don't know what to say, let's talk about it some other time… I don't want an awkward situation specially when I've got an important thing to do…"
"I understand…"
He nodded
I really don't want us to be awkward because I'm trying my best to be comfortable with him as a friend but with all the confessions and stuff… It's really awkward
"Just talk to me about something else, I don't like us to be awkward specially that we're here for work."
He stayed silent as he was following me while I choose a wine, I've been going in circles for a while, it feels so awkward…
"You must enjoy wine a lot?" finally!! he spoke to break the awkwardness
"it's not that I enjoy and like them, it's like a sleeping pill."
"Sleeping pill?"
"Occasionally when I sleep, I often dream of the day of my accident it's like a movie that keeps on replaying on my dream, that's the reason why I got insomnia."
"have you been suffering since then?"
"Yes"
I looked at him then there goes that guilty face again which makes me feel bad too…
"Don't make that face…"
"huh?"
"As if you've committed a grave crime, if you keep that up it'll be difficult for me to open up…"
He looked at me
"We're friends, aren't we?" I said
"Did you consult a psychiatrist?"
"I did, even though I my self was a psychology graduate."
"hmm… Right!"
"It was much worst during the first year after that accident. But it somehow, helped me with work. When I can't fall asleep, instead of tossing around trying to sleep, I worked to organize the company to my own liking, I was able to work thrice as other company owners could. I got used to it and since then I found drinking wine helped me to sleep."
He was just silent and his face was again showing guilt
"I said you shouldn't make that face… you just don't follow instructions, do you?"
"I'm sorry I just can't help but feel guilty."
"It wasn't only just your fault! I admit I had my shortcomings during that day!! So stop doing that!"
He didn't talk for a while
"I'll help you to forget the bad memories."
I looked at him…
"I'll just go pay for this…"
I went to the counter to pay and saw him went outside waiting. Is he not playing with me? Why would he like me? When he even acted like he was never gonna like me even in the future, five years ago.
I already bought the wine and went outside. Then we went back to our hotel, while at the elevator I decided to tell him.
"Yuan..."
"Yes?"
"If you're just mistaking your feelings for pity, I don't need it."
"It's not, pity... I'll prove it to you… you don't have to answer me I just want you to give me a chance so I could give it a try."
"But there's no assurance, yuan."
"I know… I'm going to take the risk."
"up to you…" I said
I walked towards my room without looking back.
If I was myself five years ago, I must've been very glad to hear that he likes me too, but things have changed, my hate towards him and the pain I felt for the last 5 years changed that, it changed me.
The morning came and we went to Zen technologies to present our proposal for my new business venture which is all about the IT industry.
"Are you nervous?" he asked
Honestly, defending a client in a court is much more nerve wracking than this kind of stuff.
"I'm not…"
"Well I am…"
"What?" I said and I chuckled
"You're a business management graduate, aren't you supposed to be confident with this kind of things?"
"I don't know why I'm like this, I'm just, not confident with this kind of things."
"Relax! Hahaha!! I'll be the one to talk not you…"
"Ms. Lee you may now come in."
Yuan was setting up the computer for my presentation.
"Joheun achimibnidia!! Good morning! I am Yin Ivy Lee Chairwoman and CEO of Lotus group of companies and I am here to present my proposal for an innovative and fresh venture I want to bring in my country with the help of Zen Technologies."
I have all the attention from the executives, then I started doing my presentation. I told them the objectives of this project, the mission, vision, and goals. After the presentation we have to wait outside for their decision, and if lucky, we'll have the contract signing today.
"Just for a while Ms. Lee they are still discussing inside"
"It's fine… Thank you…"
"You were totally cool back there. Congrats!!"
"I'll take your greetings after I sign the contract."
"For sure you will."
We waited for like an hour to know their decision.
"Ms. Lee, Mr. Choi wants to discuss something with you…"
So, we came inside the conference room once again.
"Ms. Lee have a sit."
"Thank you."
"I really like your proposal and I have decided to invest on your project. We have the contract prepared."
The secretary came in bringing the contracts along with her. I read the terms and conditions that was written on the contract and I loved how detailed it was done.
"Are you happy with the contract?"
"I am very happy Mr. Choi…"
"Shall we sign it now?"
We signed the contract and exchanged our copies.
"It was nice doing business with you Ms. Lee, you are young yet very resilient!"
"Thank you, Mr. Choi, it was nice doing business with you too."
We shook hands and finally our meeting is adjourned.
"See… There was no doubt you'll be able to bring home the bacon."
I just smiled at him.
"Aren't we going to celebrate?"
"I'm tired we have a flight tomorrow."
"Ohhh!! Come on!! Let's go to a bar. I know a good one I searched for it, last night…"
"Fine…" I didn't have a choice he already grabbed my wrist and hailed a cab.
"I thought we're going on a bar?"
"It's still early let's just walk around Han river for a while then we'll go there…"
I'm wearing a pencil skirt paired with a black long-sleeved turtle neck, then I'm holding my trench coat.
"Walk? I'm wearing stiletto shoes…"
"You can wear my shoes I brought a slipper on my backpack."
He knelt to remove his shoes and I was surprised he actually offered his shoes.
"Wait! Wait! Wear them back!! I'll just walk like this…"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!! Yes!! Just put them on, people are watching…"
"Okay, then just hold my arm so it won't be very difficult to walk…"
Hold his arm?
"Not like that!! Hahahaha! you'll look like a grandma!!" I held him by grabbing his forearm…
"Like this…" he grabbed my hand and placed it on his arms. Ooooh!! He must be taking care of his body. I could feel his biceps we're quite in a good condition… shoot!! What was I thinking?!!? Snap out of it!!
"Are you okay?"
"Huh?"
"Are you okay?" he repeats
"I'm fine…"
"Han river is pretty, right?"
"Not bad" I said, but actually I like the ambiance here, the mood is very light and it relaxes your nerves.
We walked for a while until the sky clearly says it's already sunset.
"Ahh!!"
"Why what happened?"
"I think I've got a blister"
"Wait, let's sit here for a moment" we sat on the nearest bench
"Let me take a look" he knelt down
"What are you doing?!?" I feel uncomfortable.
"Oh! sorry is it uncomfortable?"
I nodded in response
"Wait here I'll just buy some band aids and a cream…"
"huh?" he ran and I followed his direction until I wasn't able to see him.
"Where did he go? What's taking him so long?" I looked at my shoes
"Sorry, you waited a lot. Do you want me to do it for you?"
"N-no I'll do it myself."
I tended to my blister and patched a band on my wound.
"Aren't we going to the bar yet?"
"Are you sure you can still walk?"
"Yes!! Of course!"
"Then do you want to go now?"
"yeah…"
We hailed another cab and he recited the address.
We're already at the bar, it's actually my first time on such a crowded bar.
"Are you okay?" he whispered, because we couldn't hear each other much because of the loud music
"I'm just not used to a very crowded place"
"You'll be fine…"
We went upstairs on the second floor of the bar.
"I'll order some food. Do you want some drinks? I'll go get you some…"
"Garden Burger and a cocktail drink"
"Okay, wait for me here…"
I nodded. It's taking Yuan a while ordering the food. I went to the restroom and as well fix my make-up. When I came out of the restroom, I saw two tall guys leaning on the wall maybe they were waiting for someone inside so I just ignored them.
"Hey pretty!!"
"She seemed snob bro…"
"That makes me like her more."
Someone grabbed my wrist…
"Hey!! What are you doing?!?" I said while trying to get out from his grip
"Having fun with you tonight honey…" he went near me and sniffed my hair
"What the hell are you going to do?" I acted tough but deep inside I'm trembling in fear.
"Spend the night with me, I've got a good room…" he whispered in my ear
"Get the hell away from me!!!" I tried to push him away with all my might but he was so strong and he was very tall making it easier to pin me down against the wall…
"Oooh!! She's a fighter"
"Makes it more challenging for me… don't worry babe you'll have fun tonight!"
It wasn't that long until I had a panic attack, I remembered how Yuan kissed me harshly that night. I felt really weak and out of breath…
Then suddenly the guy was sent back hitting the wall very hard. Still I can't breathe properly… then someone held my wrist causing me to panic more…
"Ivy… Ivy!!"
I couldn't focus my gaze on the guy calling my name…
"Wait…"
All I did was cover my eyes as I was panicking and I tried to catch my breath…
"Bro! stop it! Let's go!!"
Then someone held my wrist again and I clenched my fists. I could feel my wholebody trembling…
"They're gone…" this voice is familiar…
"Go away!"
"But it's me Yuan…"
"Go…"
"Calm down no need to worry…" he hugged me, then suddenly I felt safe and warm.
I sat on the floor for a while trying to calm myself until I was able to get to my senses and I noticed that all this while Yuan was surrounding me with his arms.
"Ivy are you okay now? Can you manage to walk?"
"I…I think I can…"
I tried to stand up on my own but my knees are wobbling…
"Let me help you" he grabbed my arm and put it around his neck he scooped my waist so he could support my weight. We went back to our table just to get our things and leave immediately to go back to the hotel.
"Careful" he said as he reached out his hands when I alighted from the cab. We walked towards our respective room.
"Are you sure you're fine?"
I nodded, but in reality, I was still in shock.
I chugged down a whole bottle of wine so I could relax but it wasn't effective so I ordered two bottles of wine from the room service.
*ding *dong
I opened the door thinking it was the room service, but I saw Yuan standing holding two bottles of wines I ordered.
"You can't sleep?"
I took both bottle he was holding and went inside, he followed.
"Do you want to go to the hospital so they could prescribe you some relaxants?"
"No need" I actually drank a relaxant right after I entered my room.
"They won't take effect anyway. Go back to your room…"
"How can I leave you in this state?"
"Why not?! I was in this state five years ago when you forcefully kissed me!! It's one of the things I remember when that guy tried to kiss me earlier!"
After spilling it out, I regret saying it, aren't we trying to start new, by being friends?
"I'm sorry, I slipped…"
"No, it's good that you let me know… I'm sorry that I scared you that night and it became another bad memory which caused you pain."
"I didn't really intend to tell you, but it slipped" I opened the bottle and chugged it down.
"Ivy, you're gonna get drunk!"
"I want to sleep and forget what happened tonight!! Let me be…"
"Let's just talk until you divert your attention from what happened, stop it! You'll get drunk…"
He took the bottle away from me and went to the bathroom to throw the content of the bottle.
I looked at him…
"Let's talk…" he said
"I don't have something to say…" I was about to open another bottle but he snatched it away.
"Then I'll create topics! Enough drinking!!"
"Annoying!!" I said…
Then I went to my bed and sat and covered my legs with the blanket. He began to talk about anything under the sun, even I wasn't responding to what he was saying he just went on and kept telling me stories. I got bored. Until I started feeling sleepy.
The next morning, I felt much better and my sleep was sound as ever. I stood up and saw a note stuck on the TV screen.
++"Good morning!! I hope you're feeling better. By the way, I left your room an hour after you fell asleep. See?! Talking would work!! Even though I was the only one talking."++
Did I really sleep well because he was there? Or am I just too tired?
I prepared my things because we will be going back to our country by 5 pm. It's still 10 am, I'll go somewhere… After organizing my stuff and took a bath, I went out of the hotel room.
"Ivy! Are you going somewhere?"
"Yeah, I'll meet you here by 3 pm later. I need to go…"
"Wait! Can I tag along?"
"I'll be going somewhere important…"
"Is it somewhere I shouldn't be?"
"Nothing like that"
"Then let me come…"
He's really annoying!!
"Fine suit yourself!"
But don't you dare give me that look later, is all what I thought off.
We went to Korea University Hospital this is where I was confined to recover from the accident. I go here annually. I entered a room and I was greeted by the doctor who helped me.
"Miss Ivy Lee!! I'm so glad seeing you again, so you're here for your annual check?"
"Yes I am."
"Great!! You're getting prettier each year!! Oh! who's this guy?"
"Ahhh… my coworker…"
"Ohh nice meeting you take a sit!"
I got some X-ray and CT scan to check the status and the healing progress of my injuries five years ago, checking if the accident has done a damage.
"Hmmm… The results are out, let's see your X-ray first…"
The monitor in his room showed me the result of my X-ray.
"Hmmmm… Your three right broken ribs from five years ago have fully recovered, CT scan… ummmm nice!! I don't see the clots on your legs anymore that means the medication I gave you a year ago was working, you can stop it now.
My consultation ended and I had great results.
"You had three broken ribs?!?!"
"hmm?"
"I can't imagine how worse the accident was, three broken ribs?!! It could have really taken your life, I'm so sorry…"
"Shhh!! I said not to make that guilty face, it's annoying!!"
He stopped when I told him to do so. After the visit we went back to the hotel and got ready to grab our flight back.
"Have you been visiting Korea annually for a check-up?"
"yes…"
"Ivy…"
I cut him off---
"If you're going to say sorry again and make yourself look guilty, if you keep doing that how are you going to help me heal the pain?"
"It won't happen again…"
I just stayed silent for the whole time until we arrived. He was carrying all my bags and put it on his car. He drove to the villa to drop me off…
"I'll see you tomorrow…" he said as he took my bag out of the back of his car. I just nodded in response.
I was about to climb upstairs after the dinner but then
"Dined alone?"
"Yang?"
"You should have texted me when you arrived."
"I was really tired I'm sorry…"
"Yin…"
"hmmm?"
"Thank you…" he then hugged me…
I tapped his back…
"Dad told me that you bought off the shares that were sold and named it to me, I want you to put it under your name."
"But I bought it for you…"
"I can't accept, it's too much…"
"Yang… it's not too much just accept it, okay? oh!! No more arguing or else I won't talk to you anymore; One more thing, did he also tell you that you'd be running the company from now on?"
"Yes, he did, Yin… I don't know how to run a company…"
"That is why you're going to report tomorrow on my office and I'll be the one teaching you the know-hows"
"What?"
"You'll be running my company for a month before you actually run yours… You'll be standing as the acting chairman and CEO for a whole month and I'll be there as a consultant, great right?"
