38 The Truth (3)

William was still hugging his sister, he could finally feel that his sister was calming down, her breathing became stable and the sobbing stopped.

William moved a bit closer to see the face of his sister.

Her eyes are red and puffed out from all the crying.

Stephanie who was finally able to calm herself said, "Don't blame father, you were so young back then, father knew that you would not be able to understand no matter how hard he explain. He wanted to give you hope that mother will return."

Stephanie looked at her brother seriously, she wanted her brother and father to talk with each other, to have a better relationship, but these stubborn men would not talk with each other, or speak of their feelings. They were so alike in this aspect, Stephanie thought to herself as she looked at William.

William felt everything was surreal, as he grew up his sister became the mother figure in the family. It was because her mother's appearance has started to blur in his mind. He could not easily process the sudden information that all these years his mother was comatose.

"The doctors all gave up on mother, saying that there was no hope for her." Stephanie gave William a look full of determination as she continued, "But father believes that there is still a chance. Technology and science is changing through the times. Father believes that there is hope for mother, he never had a second thought to find a cure. You might not agree with me, but you're just like your father in so many ways." Stephanie finally gave a grin.

You can see the look of confusion on William's face. He did not know how to react as it can be shown on his face. He looked out of it as his mind continued to think of one thing, "His mother was alive."

He kept repeating these words over and over again in his head. He was only 3 years old when the accident happened. He had the impression that his mother left because of his father. His father, not once, cleared up his misunderstanding. His sister was also a part of this, the sister that he trusted the most all through his life. He knew what his sister was trying to say but his heart felt betrayed by this fact.

He suddenly had a realization, is this how Mia feels when she found out I lied to her?

Did I betray her expectations?

Time and time again, I lied and used my love for her as an excuse.

Is this situation same as what he did?

William was confused, his mind and heart was battling over which was right or which was wrong. As he was under the sea of confusion, he heard a voice.

"William, please understand that we did not do this because we wanted to. We only thought this was for the best, father has not found a way to wake mother up." Stephanie said in a soft voice. This voice finally woke William from his daze as he said in a soft tone, "I want to see mother."

Stephanie was surprised by this sudden request, but she decided that it was already time. She wanted to tell William for a while now but her father said otherwise. Now that the secret was out, there was no reason to hold out any information about the matter.

Stephanie and William drove to a well-known hospital in the city. It was a reputable and prestigious hospital that was way ahead in technology with its medical technology.

William looked at the building which was remotely familiar to him.

"Father is a shareholder in this hospital," Stephanie said.

They went to the VIP rooms in the hospital. They reached a big room that you can find at the corner. As Stephanie entered, William could see the luxurious room, it looked like a normal luxurious room that one can find in their house. Maybe his sister and father wanted to it that way to make it have the same feeling at home.

Near the window there was a hospital bed, the person in the bed looked as if she was only sleeping. Her eyes are closed, and her breathing was stable, she looked thin and her skin was pale. She looked older but William could not deny that the face he was seeing now had the same features as the one in the picture that he held dearly.

William gently approached the bed while Stephanie stood at the side, watching his brother.

William who saw his mother's face up close could not conceal his emotions anymore as he started to cry. The soft hand that his mother used to have had now had wrinkles in them. He wanted to engrave her mother's appearance in his heart as he saw and scrutinized the changes one by one.

William held his mother's hand and said, "Mother, I'm home."

William started to cry like a child in this moment. He could not control the emotion from seeing his mother's condition. He felt lost and alone, all those years growing up without a mother, he blamed his father for everything that happened, but he was wrong.

He was wrong all along.

The only thing he could think of was how he could be a better man than his father someday.

He could not imagine the suffering and sacrifices his father had to make just to continue with his wish. that someday, in this life, their family would be complete.
