"Shouldn't you be at work by now?" Dr. Canes said while looking at his watch to check the time. He looked at Mia's awkward face when he asked the question. Dr. Canes was wondering if he asked something that he shouldn't have.

Mia was still standing there, fidgeting and thinking of what to say. Dr. Canes smiled at the sight of Mia and spoke, "Sit down." While motioning at the empty seat beside him. "It's lunch and I have some sandwiches with me." Dr. Canes lifted the paper bag that had a couple of convenience store bread in them.

Mia slowly sat down beside Dr. Canes, Dr. Canes reached for two sandwiches and gave one to Mia.

Mia gratefully accepted one and started to remove the wrapping of the bread. The two ate in silence while watching the dogs play around.

Mia finished her sandwich in a hurry and could not help choking at the bread, with a "hrrrk" sound she started to cough, Dr. Canes who saw this gave Mia his drink and helped her by tapping her back. Mia took the drink and chugged it into her throat. With a "ha" sound and a feeling of relief.

"Are you alright?" Dr. Canes asked.

"I'm fine." There was still some blush on her cheeks while answering Dr. Canes.

"I'll buy some drinks on the vending machine, Excuse me." Dr. Canes stood up and went away.

Mia, on the other hand, was looking at the can of cola that was now empty. She remembered how Dr. Canes was just drinking from it a moment ago. She used her finger to trace the opening of the can, this, in turn, made her blush some more.

A couple of minutes later, you can see Dr. Canes walking while holding two bottles in each hand. He might not be as tall or handsome as William, but he has the stature of a kind older brother. He's good with kids, animals and the elderly. He was a respectable man in their neighborhood without any bad rumors surrounding him. Mia thought to herself while looking at the man walking towards her with his tender and considerate smile.

"Here you go." Dr. Canes opened the bottle before handing one to Mia.

Mia accepted it with an embarrassed smile and took a couple of drinks from it.

"So, what are you doing here at this time?" Dr. Canes asked again.

Mia paused for a bit before saying, "I resigned from my job." Mia was waiting for Dr. Canes to ask why, but he did not inquire more about the matter. Although he did not ask her, he seemed to be thinking of something with his serious expression.

"You like animals' right?" Dr. Canes asked out of the blue.

"Yes?" Mia answered but with a confused tone.

"Do you want to work with me in the pet store. The salary won't be the same as the big company that you worked at, and you'll be busy taking care of the animals. So what do you think?" Dr. Canes looked at Mia with his beaming smile.

"Yes?" Mia was still confused by the sudden proposal of the doctor.

"The store has been doing pretty well lately. Two people are not enough to take care and assist all the animals and customer, so I've been thinking of hiring someone. Since you said you don't have any work right now, you might as well give it a try." Dr. Canes looked at Mia full of sincerity.

"Ahm." Mia was wondering what to say, the offer did not sound bad as she really is fond of animals.

The atmosphere in the shop was quite nice and relaxing too, and the customers are mostly from the neighborhood so she is familiar with the people.

Before she could say more Dr. Canes said, "Why don't you think about it? If you're interested then visit the shop, I'm always there." He stood up and took Wendy away with him. Before leaving, he took a treat out of his pocket and gave the two dogs one each with a pat on the head, before waving his hands to Mia and walking away.

Happy went back to Mia with a cheerful gait and a wagging tail. Mia patted her head and said, "It's time to go home." She put the leash on Happy as they both head home. Her encounter with Dr. Canes and his offer seemed out of the blue, but Mia realized that it truly wasn't bad to work there. It's close to home, which was also good.

She was thinking of taking a couple of days to rest before finding a job but it seems she did not have to worry much about it. Her feelings lightened with that thought. As they say, when one door closes another one opens. Mia came home with a lighthearted disposition, she also informed her mother about Dr. Canes offer.

Her mother did not seem surprised and she sounded supportive with whatever Mia's decision would be.
