“I’m sorry,” Allie whispered. “I…”

Tangled thoughts snarled the avenues in her brain leaving Sage unable to form a proper sentence. So, she did the only thing she could think to do.

“And you have no idea where she went?” Asked Daria.

“I went after her after I gathered Checkers,” replied Allie. “How she disappeared so fast is beyond me. Girl might as well have super powers.”

They were seated at the small round table in Daria’s kitchen. When her efforts proved fruitless Allie returned home. The look on her face must have told a story all on its own because she’d barely made it out of the car when Daria called out to her, inquiring what soured her day. Allie ditched Checkers at her place and wandered over to speak with Daria. Somehow it turned into dinner, a delightful meal of pan-fried chicken on a bed of rice and veggies. Heavenly. Daria knew her way around the kitchen, more so than Allie, who usually nuked a frozen meal or scrambled a couple of eggs.
