Divine Chaos

After finding a mutilated corpse in a river, and another teenager being abducted, the local Precinct fears that they are out of their depths with a possible serial killer on the loose... Will detectives Luke Ceronio and Sean Reynolds get this case under wraps or will more deaths occur? And who is this killer? He must be a pro - he never leaves a trail behind that can be traced... Will Luke and Sean eventually get a lucky break, or will this case spiral out of control? * * * The story will be following four main characters, three of which will be written in an OMNIPRESENT PERSPECTIVE, though some chapters may involve other characters and telling a bit more about their back story so that their actions, feelings and thinking regarding the main characters can be better understood. First: JENNA (Jennifer Carlysle). Jenna is an introverted, innocent college student whose focus is mainly on achieving good grades. She has been a victim of bullying which resulted in her low self-esteem, due to her glorious mane of Red hair in an uncommon, darker shade. Her best female friend since she can remember - and years before that - Claire Thompson, tries to help her crawl out of her shell, which seemed like a very good idea at the time... Second: CHRIS (Christopher Evans). After Chris and Gabby were left to fend for themselves by their deranged mother, Carol Evans, they were extracted by Detective Russel Whittaker. In the absence of their deadbeat dad - Matthew Evans - Chris and Gabby were then handed over to CPS. Chris spent 9 years in and out of foster homes - until Mrs Gordon entered his life as if sent to earth by God himself. Will the angelic Mrs Gordon be able to provide Chris with the love and support he so desperately needs? Will Chris be at peace or will his traumatic past darken his future? And what in the world happened to Gabriella Evans? Third: LUKE (Detective Luke Ceronio). Luke has only recently started working at the precinct's homicide division, partnered with Detective Sean Reynolds. A heartwrenching divorce left him broken and clouded his logical thinking, but with a good friend like Sean, things start looking up. He isn't the most charismatic man, but at least his good looks make up for what he lacks in charisma. With his sky-blue eyes and pitch-black, tousled hair to complete the tall, dark and handsome look - a few hearts are sure to be broken... Fourth: THE ABDUCTOR, chapters of which will be told in FIRST PERSON PERSPECTIVE to refrain from divulging too many details... Facts will be disclosed during the book regarding our killer, but only later on in the story will you truly get to know him. Who is this 'Sissy' he constantly thinks of? * * * I am aiming towards writing a very intense, intriguing CRIME FICTION novel. Best way of classifying it would be MYSTERY / THRILLER... PLEASE NOTE! Later on in the story the chapters will include MATURE CONTENT!!! You have officially been warned (or prepared). Enjoy the journey, and let yourself be thrilled...

Prologue - Trying Times

"Mommyyy!!!" A young Gabby of only five years old at the time cried hysterically as Detective Russel Whittaker buckled her into the backseat of his squad car, with sadness and concern etched into his serious expression. Beside her, a very small Chris sat with his hands on his ears, rocking back and forth, and humming - must be some nursery rhyme, Russel thought at the time.

"This had always been the hardest part of the job" Russel thought to himself as Gabby went from hysterical screams to less loud sobs... Extracting the children from a home of abuse and suffering. He can't imagine what kind of horrible mother would leave her children to fend for themselves while she's out partying - only this time, Carol Evans didn't return during the wee hours of the morning like she usually does - she's been MIA for three whole days! - at least, according to the two women present at the moment.

Gabby's kindergarten teacher, Miss. Gwen Austen, phoned various times - without answer - to enquire about Gabby's wellbeing. She had picked up on a few things that troubled her, like Gabby not bringing lunches, or being dropped off at school in the same set of clothes for two days in a row.

She finally phoned their neighbour, Isabelle Lowes, who had been dropping Gabby off at school up until recently to ask if she had any news, and Isabelle had been the one to phone the police after the door hadn't been answered one too many times...

Isabelle had known their wayward mother far too well - and had good reason for concern with this radio silence of the unsteady, troubled woman. Carol had never fallen completely off the grid like this before, and since Isabelle was retired, she saw all the Evans' comings and goings. Isabelle had treated Carol's kids just as she would her own grandchildren - having had them left in her care countless times - ever since Carol's good-for-nothing husband disappeared after knocking up their latest babysitter.

Isabelle tried making contact with him, too - but to no avail. No, Matthew Evans had done enough harm to these kids and most definitely wouldn't have the slightest interest in raising them... Had time not been unfavourable to her, she would've taken them under her own wing - but alas, her pension barely covered her own bare necessities. And so it came to be that a frightened Chris and a very traumatised Gabby were handed over to the authorities...

Chris was the younger sibling, at only 3 years old. Russel thought that he would have to deal with the tantrums and tears that only a traumatised toddler could manage. This calm collectiveness of Chris was an eerie, unnatural surprise to him...

As Russel shifted into first gear and started heading toward the Precinct, he took a look in his rear view mirror to see Gabby staring out the window at the dishevelled dump she used to call home. His heart contracted as he thought about these kids' future, and the uncertainty his thoughts bared to him, filled him with sympathy. Would they be better off in the custody of Child Protective Services, or would the system fail them tragically?
