Daily Quest:

1. Run 5.1 kilometers (Reward: 3 free stat points)

2. Complete>

"I still have to run another 5.1 kilometers..."

Looking down at his pale white legs, a determined look swept over Alaric's beautiful face as he chose the flattest direction and started running. Running along, Alaric was even more entranced by the number going up; it was like heroin was injected into his veins every time the number went up.

"Progress, Progress, Progress," He kept whispering between breaths.

After about 20 minutes, Alaric was almost done; with the counter showing 4.2/5.1 kilometers, he suddenly heard noises. In front of him, hidden between the trees, many different sounds were coming from the same direction.

Not willing to give up his quest, he kept running in the same direction, coincidentally in the same direction, the sounds were coming from. Getting closer to the sound, he started to make out what the sound was; it sounded like trees falling.

At this point, even Alaric considered changing directions, but he couldn't. On either side of him were uphill mountains, and even with Alaric's determination, it would be hard to achieve.

Turning around was also not possible, as paths one's already taken cannot be traversed according to the quest; it would immediately disqualify his attempt, and he would have to restart. If this wasn't the case, he could've just found a short section of flat ground and run back and forth.

The system seemed to design daily quests according to his surroundings and change difficulties accordingly.

The counter now showed 4.6/5.1 kilometers closer to the sound, and he started preparing himself for whatever he was to see. Running along, he began to get nervous; now, only a small distance away from those sounds, he saw a tree maybe 100 meters in front of him fall.

Looking closer, he saw moving objects, obviously indicating that other life than him was currently right in front of him.

Getting closer, he could now see some of their outlines; there were quite a few of them, counting maybe 6 or so, that he could see. They had the same outlines as humans, "Weird, are there other humans here as well?"

Ignoring it for now, he kept running, eventually getting within 20 meters of the human-shaped creatures. Close enough to get a clear look at these outlines, he noticed they were humans.

The next moment, a shout sounded, "WATCH OUT!"

Taking his eyes off the confirmed human, he shifted his vision to where the voice came from. A gigantic tree, maybe about 30 meters in height, was barreling towards him from his right. The tree's trajectory was directly in front of him, blocking his path and trying to stop Alaric's quest of running 5.1 kilometers.

Biting his lip and unwilling to give up his quest, he cast wood wall, imagining the roots of a tree to his left slithering towards him, right in front of his path.

Shooting out of the ground, roots formed together in the perfect height, slightly lower than Alaric's waist. He then started casting water balls, one for each hand.

Accelerating, Alaric ran as fast as he could muster, jumping off his left foot and using his right foot to jump off the wood wall.

Several meters in the air, the central part of the tree had already gone below his body. In his direct course, however, was a thick branch. Concentrating, he threw both Water balls in front of him; the first one connected but couldn't sever the branch altogether. The second one landed and blew away the branch, allowing Alaric to fly past.

"PROGRESS!" He shouted as he landed on his feet and kept running.

"HEY, KID! COME BACK HERE; YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!"

Shouts were heard behind him; however, he ignored them as his only goal was to finish the quest.

"I can probably come back when I've finished the quest." he thought as he kept up his pace.

Something weird happened; instead of the shouting voices behind him fading out, they were actually getting louder, indicating they were gaining ground on him. Several people, all running after him as if he was a pure white rabbit and they were hungry wolves.

Looking behind him, he noticed they were like a pack of starving wolves, all of them running faster than one could imagine a human running.

"FUCK, what do they want with me?" He thought as a confused expression appeared on his face.

The people were about 30 meters behind him; looking at the quest, he was 4.9/5.1 kilometers done.

"I have to outrun them for another 200 meters? Alright, it's about time to use my ultimate trump card!"

Opening the system, he used his last remaining attribute point on speed, going from 8 to 9. Immediately, it felt like he unlocked some unknown muscle in his legs; if his top speed earlier was 15km/h, now it was closer to 18 or 19km/h.

"Wow! There's such an increase?"

Looking behind him again, he noticed that the humans were still gaining ground on him, not as much as before, but definitely catching up.

Seeing the number go up to 5.0/5.1km, he looked behind again; they were 8 meters away.

"Fuck, at this speed, I'm not going to make it!"

Realizing he had to do something, he started condensing the surrounding water particles in the air. Taking a second to cast, the closest guy had already gotten another 3 meters closer, now making the distance between them 5 meters.

"If I shoot them, they'll attack me when I've completed the quest; better to try and outsmart them."

Thinking this, he threw the water ball on a root in front of him and jumped over the root.

The guy behind him suddenly got cocky, "Hmph, this guy didn't use the root to press himself forward? I'm going to catch up in no time now!"

Putting all his weight and using as much force as possible, the middle-aged man immediately fell to the ground, looking like he had stepped on a banana peel in a cartoon.

Smirking, Alaric thought, "dumbass."

Although this guy was fooled, there were several more behind him, and seeing him slip on the root, they jumped over it. Continuing his run, he was now about 50 meters away, but another guy had gotten quite close again, only about 4 seconds away from catching up to him.

Realizing this, he had no choice but to use another one of his tricks. Casting wood wall, Alaric Imagined the roots of a tree to his left slithering behind him.

"This kid is going to get himself killed! I have to catch him!" The guy closest to Alaric thought while rushing towards him.

Suddenly though, he felt something tug on his left foot. His foot had gotten stuck under a root, and he face-planted straight into the ground. Looking up, he saw multiple people jump over him; he touched his bloody nose and looked down at the root. "How did I not see it?"

A few seconds later, a panel appeared before Alaric.

Seeing he had completed the quest, he dropped to the ground, held up his hands, and said, "I give up."

Appearing before him were 10 people; most of them were middle-aged, with a few looking to be in their mid-twenties. The two oldest appeared last, being the two Alaric had outsmarted.

"Kid, you know you're supposed to be in school right now. Are you trying to get yourself killed by running out in the wilderness by yourself?" The oldest looking of the lot said. He was the first person Alaric outsmarted.

"You were about to enter Lush Green Forest! You wouldn't have survived a second in there! What were you thinking!" Multiple other people pitched in.

"I'm not a kid! What made you think that?!" Alaric replied in between heavy breaths.

"Hmph, Nice try, you're like max 13 years old. I'll take you back to Lush Barrier City. The rest of you can go back to work." The oldest said, looking at Alaric in disappointment.

Following the oldest orders, the other men walked back from where they had come from and left the old man and Alaric alone.

"What's your name, and which class do you belong to?" The old man looked down at the exhausted kid and asked.

"My name is Alaric, and what are you talking about, class? I'm not a kid!" Alaric replied, annoyed.

"Not a kid, huh? Tell that to Principal White."

"Wood Cuffs!" The old man chanted as 2 pairs of handcuffs appeared on Alaric's wrists and ankles.
