Starfall walked down the streets of Canterlot a bit put out.
He just received an invitation for a talent show from Spike and the girls from the CMC but he couldn't attend as he was leaving to take care of a few matters in Canterlot.
Apparently they finally received the old treehouse from Applejack to use as their Clubhouse and were currently preparing a performance to show their talents...
He was happy that the Cockatrice story didn't haunt them but he still would have wanted to be there and help them with that talent show.
But he couldn't push this stuff for later anymore and needed to take care of it as soon as possible, because the day of His return was getting closer...
His hooves led him in to the royal gardens. The Guards seeing him easily let him trough. it was nice being a celebrity for once. Even with his status as a Noble, there were many Ponies that didn't know how he looked, but since the release of his research on magic language it became hard not to get recognised by just walking down the street. Thankfully Equestria wasn't like his past life. There were still Ponies who acted like crazy fans but most didn't really act any different other than giving you a second look or something. Even Twilight after becoming an Alicorn wasn't mobbed while walking the streets but she could use her status if she needed.
So it wasn't surprising that the guard let him through without even asking for his identity.
Starfall walked down the path looking at the sculptures adorning the quiet garden and watching the occasional animal from around the world passing him by not even sparing him a second glance.
Suddenly there was a blast of fire in the sky, and a beautiful crimson phoenix appeared from Inside before landing on a branch close by.
"Hello Philomena. It's good to see you." Said Starfall with a smile and the phoenix nodded in his direction before quacking in question.
"I'll visit them later. First I have a certain matter to take care of in the garden. If you want, you can go and fetch Phoebe. I wanted to bring her with me but she got a lazy streak and didn't want to leave her perch in the morning." He said with a smile and Philomena nodded before disappearing in another burst of flame.
Starfall smiled and continued on his way.
The garden was pretty large and it took him a while to arrive at his destination. Halfway through, he had seen two flame explosions in the distance which indicated the arrival of the two Phoenixes. He didn't bother them for now and continued walking, finally reaching his destination and looking at it with both excitement and trepidation.
It was a large stone statue of a mysterious creature that represented the word 'Chaotic'.
It had a long snake-like body with four limbs, each limb completely different from the other ones.
One of his arms was a lion paw while the other was an eagle or possibly a gryphon claw. His legs were also different, one of them being a reptilian draconic claw while the other being a goat hoof.
His body changed from being scaly, to being covered in fur while it's horns also didn't match, with one of them being an antler and the other having an irregular girth as if it wasn't sure what horn it was supposed to be.
It had a pair of mismatched wings, one leathery and the other feathered and all in all the statue looked pretty cool.
But Starfall knew that it wasn't a statue...
It was Discord, the Spirit of Chaos and one of the strongest beings in Equestria that got sealed in the stone using the elements of Harmony.
It wasn't the same as the Cockatrice Petrification because Discord would have been able to simply free himself using his overwhelming and chaotic power. Damn he could even survive having his body entirely destroyed! So the only way to seal him was to somehow seal his magic together with the body.
Starfall used his Mage Sight and confirmed that there was barely any Magic being released from the statue. If he didn't know about Discord, he wouldn't have ever realized it but it was here...and it seemed like the seal was weakening...
He could have of course resealed him by recreating the magic on the statue and seal the magical cracks but he didn't want to do so. Discord could become an useful ally for Equestria so his return was needed... but Starfall wanted it to be on his own terms...
In the past he would often visit the garden to research the Chaos Magic that was slowly being released from the Statue and formed his own theories of how to counter it.
Chaos Magic was quiet interesting and powerful, but it wasn't invincible. it was not the same as the Equestrian magic. It had no form and no rules but while that was something which made it dangerous, it was also something which made it predictably unpredictable...It would take too much time to explain his theories but simply, Chaos magic depended only on the Will and Power of the caster. If your will wasn't enough the magic could make you insane but without sufficient power nothing would really happen.
Starfall always tried to find a way to counter the Chaos Magic and he believed that he could stop Discord with his current abilities, but there was still one theory he had which if proven right, might change everything he knew about magic...
Fusing both or more types of magic together...

In all years of his second life, Starfall never dared to absorb the Chaos Magic, not knowing the effects that it could have on himself and on his Pony Magic. But his recent research on the magic of Harmony aka the Magic of Friendship gave him the necessary confidence to experiment...
His horn glowed purple as an ornate box levitated out of his saddlebag before landing in front of him. He then slowly opened the box, only to reveal six colorful gemstones temporarily released from their golden holders.
It were the Elements of Harmony!
Starfall knew that they couldn't show their full power without the Mane Six but he didn't need it. What he needed was a counter for the Chaotic Magic that he was about to release here.
Starfall took out a large Rune covered Gemstone and set it up on the ground surrounded by the Elements before drawing a small magical formation on the walkway. It was extremely complicated and was technically illegal seeing as it was a formation similar to the one Cozy Glow created to steal all the Magic of Equestria using the knowledge of Lord Tirek. It wasn't really hard to recreate it thanks to his understanding and extensive knowledge of the Magical Language, but this formation had a slightly different purpose.
It was supposed to take a tiny bit of magic from the target without harming him and store it in the Gemstone that he specifically created to store magic.
It was similar to the Containment unit he used to seal the piece of Nightmare Moon's magic, but this one was specifically designed to work with this formation and had the added benefit of creating more of the specific magic it housed using the ambient regular magic around it.
Discord wouldn't even realise what happened and would quickly recover the difference.
The reason he went out of his way to do all of this was because he wasn't just going to absorb his magic straight out like this. Instead he would bring some Chaos Magic into his Secret Laboratory and perform all his experiments in a safe and controlled environment.
The Elements of Harmony were here to ensure his safety during the process and to power up the magic formation as it needed powerful source of magic to work properly.
The Elements seemed unsure whether to give their magic but Starfall mentally assured them that it won't hurt anybody and would be beneficial for Equestria in the long run. They weren't really sentient, but they represented an Intent so if they were forced to do something against that intent, they wouldn't work or it might even destroy them.
The formation soon lit up as the elements rose up surrounded in spheres of magic. Then the Runic Gemstone also rose up and Starfall got startled when he heard a characteristic sound of a bell resound in the area as a thin beam of chaotic Energy exploded from the chest of the statue and entered the Gemstone. That was so similar to the Grogar's Bell that it was scarry...
He used his Mage Sight to confirm he didn't took more Magic than he intended, and seeing no real difference in the magical power he sighed in relief and cleaned up the place sighing in relief that he had the foresight to cast a silencing spell on Discord's head and the surroundings. After all, The Draconequs did admit in the show that he could hear everything even while being a stone...
After collecting everything and sealing the Containment Gemstone in another larger Containment unit for safety's sake, he departed towards the Castle.
He promised to see Luna after their brief talk after the Young Flyer Competition and he was really curious what it was all about...
