Diary of the Dead

[125chaps only] [Completed] Death is such a simple and yet so complicated phenomenon. We spent all our lives trying to avoid death but eventually succumbing to it. But then what? Is everything over? Is it really the end as we imagine or all the stories about reincarnation, about ghosts are true? What happens when someone dies? There are many stories which end at death and some that extend beyond death. But my story... It begins at death. Hey everyone! I'm Chloe. I've recently become a ghost and I have no memories of my human life. Join me in my adventure where I discover my past and my future together. The adventure of a "Life" that exists beyond "Death." *PS: The cover picture is not mine, and I'll take it down if the original owner wants me to.* Check out my other story, "Across the Galaxy (Sci-fi)" I would like to thank AMRITA CHOUDHURY, A friend and a dear sister to me who helps me improve the grammar in the chapters. What else happened?

Chloe POV.

"Hey Chloe, what's going on?" He asked me softly.

I looked up wondering what to say to him. I looked around and realised I was in the bed. Last thing I remembered before I saw that vision is that I was lying on the bed, thinking about my next course of action, while at the same time I was drawing conclusions from all the available information.

Soon enough Ken and Margaret came running into the room through the door. Both of them looked concerned, as my screams reached beyond the walls of this room. What if other ghosts heard it too? And what if Jeanine was one of them, She will definitely ask me about it. She was too straightforward, her questions sometimes left me speechless.

"What's wrong with you?" Margaret gave an exaggerated sigh. "Everytime something or the other keeps happening to you!!"

"It's nothing, just some.... weird memories." I say the truth as I failed to come up with any plausible excuse. I did not feel like sharing this memory.

"What was it this time?" She asked sternly, and raised her eyebrows.

"Um... the accident? nothing new though. It was too horrifying for me relieve it." I lie again. Why was I lying? I did not know. I however recalled that in my vision, it was important for me that the ceremony remained a secret. No one was supposed to find out or something. I may not remember yet why, but I will honor my own wishes from the time I was human.

Besides, it's pretty well established I was Timothy's wife. I wanted to keep this memory just for myself. It was so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time

"All ado for nothing" Margaret pursed her lips. "What a drama queen."

That hurt a lot, but I decided to stay quiet anyways. It was neither my fault that I lost my memories, nor was having these visions at random moments. At this point I was used to her hostility now. I thought maybe we are becoming close, but apparently I was wrong.

Both of them left after ensuring I was doing fine. I was recalling my vision, wondering why did I suddenly remember that. My death was most certainly traumatic but was I traumatized somehow at my wedding too?

Amidst all my thoughts, I noticed Oliver was awfully quiet. He had an old newspaper, which I have no idea where he got it from, and was solving a crossword. Although he was not actually doing it, he was just staring at the paper and sat still.

"You need any help with that?" I asked him. Anything that would take my mind off things.

He did not respond to me, and continued staring at the puzzle as if he did not ever hear me, which was odd given our enhanced hearing.

"Hey!" I raised my voice. He looked up startled, and raised his eyebrows. "Are you okay? You seem really upset?"

"What makes you say that?" He asked me and put his pen down.

"Well, you are too quiet to begin with. Then you were burning holes into the paper with your sustained stare." I shrugged.

"Ken is the talkative one, not me, remember?" He said nonchalantly and folded his arms.

"Actually you are both talkative ones. You guys are so similar that I'm surprised you aren't related by blood" I said while I pretended to think really hard. "Now tell me what is bothering you?" I go sit next to him.

"Nothing" He answered avoiding my gaze.

"Come on! I tell you everything" I was lying but I wanted to pester him. "Try sharing with me, it will help a lot. I am a good listener. I helped Ken as well you know" I try to persuade him. It felt unfair how everyone was so involved about me, but I did not know much about them.

"He told you something?" He asked suddenly, clearly as ruse to avoid the subject.

"Don't change the subject. Tell me!" I said sternly.

"Geez, okay Mom!!" He rolled his eyes at me.

Well I was kind of behaving like a strict mom, maybe meeting with Momo, brought out my hidden maternal instincts somehow. I laughed at that thought internally.

"While I was following Virginia, I kind of ran into... someone from my past." He gulped.

"Oh..." I say softly. "...and your memories of that person is good or bad?" I ask him, wondering weather or not should I directly ask him who that person is and how is that person related to him. "Wait!! Was it Carter?" Last time they met Oliver was disturbed for a really long time.

"No, it was someone whom I knew as a human."He shrugged. "Remember I told you I am from this city." I nodded. "Well, that's it." He gave a big nod.

"That's it?" I raised my eyes again. "At least tell me who the person is" I raised my pitch to show how baffled I was.

"Why do you even care so much? You hardly know me." He tried to reason with me.

"Well, right back at you. And here you are, giving up on everything you ever worked for just to help me. Let me do the same for you, at least let me try." I try to persuade him further.

"I am actually helpful you know, being an ex-cop. You are useless." He blurted out.

I did not know what came over me but I punched him hard on his shoulders. His words offended me a lot.

"Ouch!! that hurt!" He grimaced from the pain.

"Really? you can feel that, you dead man?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "Well, then I am going to do the exact same thing again if you don't start talking" I folded my arms. At this point I did not care about helping him, as much as I cared about proving him wrong abut the accusation he made.

"Fine." He rubbed his shoulders the straightened himself up on the chair. "The person I met, is the love of my life." He said very softly, like a whisper, enough for me to miss it, if I was not attentive enough.
