#Chapter34
Grateful
Julie finally got to her feet and I followed suit. She enveloped me in a tight hug, which I returned immediately.
We stood that way for a while, before she finally stepped back.
/"Thank you Verena, I needed that. I can't even begin to express my gratitude. You're right, I've taken too long already. I'm going to talk to him./" She gave me a small smile and she started to walk out of the kitchen.
I watched as she made her way to the living room, where Nate was sitting with his head buried in his hands.
/"Nate./" I heard her soft voice call out.
Nate looked up and his face etched in concern when he saw his mother's tear stained face.
/"Mom? What's wrong?/" He asked worriedly.
Instead of replying, his mother ran up to him and engulfed him in a hug, her shoulders shaking as she cried.
I turned away. It felt wrong to be watching such a private moment between a mother and her son.
