#Chapter33

Grateful

/"Thanks for dinner Julia. It was amazing./" I told Nate's mother truthfully.

She gave me a sweet smile and nodded her head in acknowledgement.

We were enveloped by an awkward silence once more.

My eyes strayed in Nate's direction. He was sitting at the head of the table. I noticed that his shoulders were slumped. I knew he did that whenever he was upset.

Nate hadn't spoken a single word to his mother after their greeting.

'Come on say something already.' I silently pleaded, but he refused to meet my gaze.

/"I'll go get dessert./" Julia's voice interrupted my thoughts.

I turned to look at her and found her looking at Nate too. Her eyes were glassy, like she was going to break down any second. She gave me shaky smile before rushing to the kitchen.

Okay, this has gone too far!

Enough is enough!

/"What is wrong with you?/" I demanded in anger.
