Entrance Exam!

Feng Hei Lang felt like she was going through cold water. Then, it suddenly vanished and light filled her vision.

She opened her eyes to see Kang Lei in front of her. He held out a paw for her and waved the other towards the academy behind him. "Welcome to Hu Li University."

Her jaw dropped at how big it was and Xing on her back let out a little "rawr!" It looked like a crystal castle since it was huge with many different towers and sections. It was also a light shade of blue as if it was made of ice. There was a large drawbridge towards the entrance, and there were hundreds of foxes of different colors.

Feng Hei Lang spun in a circle. Everything was a breathtaking sight. Outside the university, it looked like there was a city run by foxes.

Kang Lei laughed at her reaction. "Everyone acts like that when they see this place for the first time! Come on, let's go wait in line for the entrance exam. It'll be starting in 10 minutes."

She let him drag her around as she was still astounded by the sight. Feng Hei Lang really wanted to take a picture of this moment, but there were no cameras in this world. She let out a dejected sigh and started following Kang Lei more seriously.

He led her through the drawbridge then through the entrance. Inside, the university was just as grandiose as the outside. Feng Hei Lang watched as Kang Lei led her to an open courtyard. There were so many foxes there that it was impossible to count.

On the side of the crowd, there were humans with fox ears and fox tails. Feng Hei Lang tapped Kang Lei. "Hey, Kang Lei. Are those humans...?"

He laughed. "Obviously not! Those are foxes in human form. Everyone is taught how to do that when they enter Hu Li University. Now, be quiet, the entrance exam is starting."

A beautiful red fox walked up to the center stage in the courtyard. In a flash, it became a human with fox ears and a fox tail. Feng Hei Lang could now obviously tell that it was a girl.

The lady on the stage cleared her throat and started speaking using [Telepathy.] "Testing, testing!" Her voice was a gentle, but a bit venomous at the same time.

The lady gave a courtesy to everyone in the courtyard. "Welcome foxes to Hu Li University. I am Le Yi, an instructor. I will be going over the rules and parts to the entrance exam."

Instructor Le Yi waved her hand and a target sprang up. "The first part will be where we test the potential of your special ability. Everyone here should be at least uncommon grade, so your special ability should be awakened. Using your ability, hit this target as hard as you can. A grade will pop up, determining your potential. If you get a score lower than C-Grade, you'll instantly fail."

As an example, Instructor Le Yi brought up her hand and simply punched it using her ability. A red flame covered her fist as a loud BOOM! rang out across in the courtyard. A hologram appeared above the target and showed [S].

There was much clapping and whispering in the courtyard. Kang Lei gasped when he saw that. "An S-Grade ability! Those are so rare! It's like more than one in a million!"

Feng Hei Lang tilted her head. "They're that rare-?" He nodded excitedly. "OBVIOUSLY! It looks like Instructor Le Yi has the ability [Heaven Slaying Flames]. It's the best fire ability to have!" She turned back to the stage while petting Xing. "I see..."

Instructor Le Yi stood back in her original spot. "And now the entrance exams to Hu Li University begins! Will the purple fox in the front step up first?"

The female purple fox stood up and walked to the stage, slightly trembling. She raised her paw and a thin white aura formed. Then, a small muffled sound came as she hit the target. The hologram raised up and displayed [D].

Instructor Le Yi's expression didn't change and was still stone cold. "Fail." The purple fox ran out of the courtyard in tears. Feng Hei Lang turned to Kang Lei and whispered, "Isn't that a bit harsh?"

He shrugged. "That's been their tradition for hundreds of years. They don't accept anyone who has an ability lower than C-Grade."

Many other foxes started going up. Most of them failed, except for a few lucky ones. Then, Instructor Le Yi called up the next fox. "The baby pink fox in the back row. Your turn."

The female fox walked up to the target, utterly confident. She raised her paw and slammed it into the target with a loud BOOM! The hologram popped up and showed [A].

Whispers intensified in the crowd. Kang Lei started laughing at the other foxes' stupefied faces. "That was an obvious result. That was Mei Wang from the Divine Dragon Clan. She was one of the foxes this year with the most potential."

Still, Instructor Le Yi's expression didn't change. "Pass. Next, the light blue fox in the back." She pointed at Kang Lei.

Feng Hei Lang patted him on the back. "Good luck." Xing let out a little cheer too. He smiled. "Thanks, you better pass too!"

Kang Lei walked up to the stage and then raised his paw. Water started swirling around it and then it shot forward at the target. The hologram popped up above and read [B].

Feng Hei Lang saw the hologram and let out a little, "Ooooh~ He's not bad either!"

Kang lei walked back to her and smirked. "Impressed yet?" She turned away from him. "Not even in the slightest." He poked her with his paw. "Oh? Then can you do better than that?"

Feng Hei Lang shrugged. "I don't know. Can I?" She removed Xing from her back and placed him on the floor, so that she could see better.

He pouted. "No fair! I guess I'll wait till it's your turn."

Instructor Le Yi called up a few more foxes and most of them failed. Then, she said, "The black fox with silver paws in the back. Come forward."

Feng Hei Lang stepped up onto the stage, ready to take the entrance exam.
