Another Fox?

Feng Hei Lang awoke to something on her snout. She stretched and pulled it off her face. 'What is this?!' She took a good look and realized that it was Xing. He giggled and grabbed onto her tail. 'Morning, Mommy!'

She grabbed him away from her tail. "I'm not your mother. Call me Feng Hei Lang or Hei Lang." Xing tilted his head and stared at her with his big golden eyes. 'Not Mommy? Then, Master! Master! Master!'

Feng Hei Lang facepalmed and sighed. "Whatever, just call me anything you want." Xing bounced up and down, flailing his wings. 'Yay! Mommy! Mommy!'

She patted him on the head then brought out some meat from her inventory. "Breakfast, Xing." He gobbled down the meat without a second thought, then turned to her for more. Feng Hei Lang tilted her head. "You want more? Let me eat my share first."

She quickly ate the meat and then tossed Xing some more. He gobbled that up just as fast as he ate the first one.

When Feng Hei Lang was about to stand up and go practice using her new special ability, she heard a twig crack behind her. She instantly whirled and hid Xing behind her.

There was a light blue male fox behind her. Feng Hei Lang hissed and got ready to travel to a different shadow if she needed to.

The fox raised up his paws in surrender. "Woah! Calm down! I'm not going to hurt you!" Feng Hei Lang relaxed a bit when she heard him talk, but she kept her guard up. "Who are you? And how can you talk?"

The fox tilted his head. "All foxes learn [Telepathy] when they are born. My name is Kang Lei! I was just heading to the Hu Li University entrance exam when I found you here!"

Feng Hei Lang finally lowered her guard since she sensed that all his words were sincere. But she still quickly used [Appraisal] on him.

It wouldn't show anything other than his beast level and species. Feng Hei Lang sat down in front of Xing. "Hello, I'm Feng Hei Lang. And you said you were going to Hu Li University? What is that?"

Kang Lei had a shocked expression on his face. "You've never heard of Hu Li University?! Every fox knows of it! Have you been living under a rock or something?"

She sighed. "Something like that. So what is this university?"

His eyes had an excited gleam. "It's the one and only university for foxes! We, foxes, are one of the most intelligent beasts! This university was to help us learn how to behave in the human world, how to disguise ourselves, and how to fight! It's every fox's dream to go there! However, the spots are limited so we have to take an entrance exam."

Xing popped his head out from behind Feng Hei Lang. "Rawr!" Kang Lei jumped back a little when he saw Xing, but then he burst out laughing. "Aw! Is that yours? It's so adorable!" He reached out a paw to pat Xing on the head, but Feng Hei Lang brushed him away.

"Yeah, that's Xing. And I was just thinking, can I can come to Hu Li University with you?" Feng Hei Lang wanted to see what the fox university was like. 'It might be a good experience for me to see how to blend in with other foxes and humans. Combat training would also definitely be useful.'

Kang Lei nodded. "Sure! The entrance exam is open to anyone, if they dare. You can bring your little pet, Xing, too!" He tilted his head towards her. "What is Xing anyways? A lizard beast?"

Feng Hei Lang shook her head. "No, Xing is a baby night dragon."

Kang Lei gasped but then he started laughing. "Very funny. Night dragons were wiped out one hundred years ago! There's none that exist anymore! Actually though, what is Xing?"

She pouted and stomped her paw on the ground. "I'm not lying! Xing really is a night dragon!" He shrugged. "Yeah, yeah. I totally believe you. You could just told me that you didn't want to tell me! Anyways, I can lead you to Hu Li University."

Feng Hei Lang sighed in defeat. "Yeah, whatever." She placed Xing on her back and started following Kang Lei out of the forest where she was reincarnated in.

It also seemed that he never stopped talking. "Hey Hei Lang, what is that cloak you are wearing? Is it because you're trying to block out the sun because it's hot? But if you're hot, wouldn't you rather wear nothing? I still wonder what breed Xing is! I think it's the Black-Winged Lizard Clan! But the silver scales contradict that..."

Soon, Feng Hei Lang gave up and slapped him on the head. "Please STOP TALKING! You're giving me a headache!"

Kang Lei covered his mouth with his tail. "Oh, I'm sorry..." He completely shut up for the rest of the journey.

They stopped often for rest, water, and food. Occasionally, they would take a few short naps and after a few days, Kang Lei led her to where a lone tree stood.

Feng Hei Lang looked around her surroundings carefully. 'There isn't a university anywhere! There's only a grassy field and this single tree! Is he tricking me?'

Kang Lei placed his paw on one of the roots of the tree. A hole opened up on the ground that was completely dark. He beckoned to her. "C'mon! This is the entrance!"

She glanced skeptically at the dark hole in the ground. "It's just a hole that doesn't lead anywhere! And why is it pitch black?"

Kang Lei started laughing once more. "Ahahaha! It's as if you never learned this when growing up! To get to Hu Li University, you must go through a portal! This portal will teleport you there while scanning you for any dangers or weapons!"

Then, he leapt through the portal, utterly vanishing. Feng Hei Lang looked shocked. "EHHHH? HE JUST LEFT ME HERE!"

Without a second thought, she jumped through the portal too, with Xing on her back.
