Chapter 2 - Unexpected

Margo pulls up to the Opel Suite Hotel where the charity event is being held. People are already walking in wearing fancy attire. A woman walks in wearing a bright pink trench coat with a mini umbrella. What the hell.

I open the door as the valet man holds out his hand which I politely take. Margo winks at the valet guy that offers his hand and walks over to my side smacking my ass.

"Margo no joking around I need you to be serious, are you sure you can handle this"

She squeezes my hand as we start walking towards the entrance "I was born for this, I won't disappoint you"

I smile gratefully and walk into the hotel.

We approach a large table as we enter the lobby. A short purple haired woman looks up from her clipboard glancing at both of us curiously

"How can I help you"

Margo eyes the woman as she points between us with a sarcastic smile "Margo Vontez and my sexy plus one"

The woman lifts her glasses and scans down the list of invited guests. Luckily Margo was able to hack into the charity's guest list to add her name before the list printed out.

"Uh yes Margie Vontez, here are your tickets"

Margo's stare is deadly, I quickly pull her to the ballroom. I hand the tickets to the door man as he opens the door.

The ballroom if gorgeous. It has a top floor and lower level with multiple long dining tables. Two buffet tables are places in the corner with an open bar. Following a background view of the ocean.

Margo and I are scolded with multiple pairs of eyes as it begins to get crowded, which is expected since we are new faces to them.

"Let the take down begin bitches" She whispers in my ear as she walks off.

No sight of Nadia Burrows yet. I walk over to the bar to kill some time. Sitting in the barstool, I hear ruffling behind the bar. A handsome man pops up with a case of alcohol. He's stacking the bottles on the shelves clearly distracted.

He doesn't even notice me staring like an idiot. He runs his hands through his dark brown hair. His muscles revealing through his black tee as he stretches to the top shelf. I bite my lip observing every inch. Wait no, No. I don't do this. No distractions.

I immediately snap out of it. I spin around in the bar stool and begin to walk away.

"Excuse me miss, your purse"

I turn back around and lock eyes with the man that looks even more jaw dropping up close.

His eyes seem so familiar to me. I reach out and grab my purse from his hands

"Thank you, I appreciate it"

I smile and turn back around quickly ready to make my escape

"Wait, can I get you a drink" I look back in his direction and shake my head.

"Miss, I mean no harm. I assume you were sitting here; the bartender will be here any second but I can get you a drink" I nod and sit back in the bar stool

"So miss what can I get.."

I interrupt him "You can call me Alena" His gorgeous smile takes my breath away

"What would you like Alena"

A sharp pain appears on the side of my head. The pain is so severe, it feels like acid deteriorating my skull. This never happened to me before

"Fuck" I mumbled under my breath. I try to wait for the intense headache to disappear but its getting even stronger.

"Alena are you alright?"

I shut my eyes and place my hand on my head. Thankfully it starts to cool down

"It's nothing just a brief headache"

"You look uncomfortable, do you need an asprin?" His concerned look is causing the couple next to me to look in my direction.

I point to the glass for a drink trying to change the subject.

"Better than okay thanks"

I rest my hand under my chin and observe as he places an empty glass in front of me "You said the bartender is away, you won't get in trouble?"

He laughs as he fills my glass with a shot of tequila. A man who already knows what I like. Ugh I need to leave.

"I know the owner, you're in the clear"

He looks at me with such intensity as his eyes bore into mine

"I'm Khar"

He reaches over the bar offering his hand for me to shake. I place my hand in his, it felt like electric bolts went through me. 10 seconds pass and our hands are still together causing me to be the first to let go. How is the man making me feel like this?

I bring the glass to my lips and down the drink without flinching. He watches and smiles impressed.

"You just moved here Alena?

I shrug not really knowing how to answer. "You can say that, it feels all new to me"

I notice the tattoos covering his right arm. One name in particular, bold and cursive.

ALEXANDRA

He notices me eyeing his tattoo.

"She was everything to me. I lost her when we were kids"

I can feel his pain. I understand loss and pain. He pours a glass of whisky and downs it. His eyes are glossy.

"She died"

My heart hurts for him. I know the feeling of death far to well "I'm so sorry Khar".

He looks into my eyes and lets out a grateful breath "Thank You"

My eyes contact breaks from his as Nadia Burrows walks in like she owns the place. Finally, this witch makes an appearance. Margo is rubbing off on me. Damn.

Back to business, I slide off the stool and grab my purse

"It was really nice to meet you Khar but I have to get going"

I turn away from his gorgeous face and start to make my way to mingle with the demon.

"Wait"

He comes around the bar and stands in front of me. He was about to say something when his eyes flow down my body. I blush and run my hand through my long dark red curly har. Damn what the hell am I doing

"I may not ever see you again, I just want to thank you for keeping me company. It was nice to meet you Alena"

I smile and stare into his amazing eyes "You too Khar, have a good night"

I walk towards the stairs to the second level. For the first time, I have the urge to turn around and look back at a man I wish I could see again.

He's still looking at me. I had to fight myself to break eye contact. I give him a last smile as I continue up the stairs to eliminate the woman who betrayed my family

...............

The ballroom is at full capacity, everyone is in boring conversations trying to impress or brag about their assets. I spot Nadia engaged in a conversation with Mr and Mrs. Ingram, the two main organizers for this charity.

I grab a glass of champagne form the tray and make my way over to introduce myself. I notice her hand on Grant Ingram's shoulder, the husband of Latrisha Ingram. Flirting with a woman's husband so bluntly. How classy. Not surprised she hasn't changed

I bump into Nadia, causing her champagne to spill out her glass. If looks could kill, it would make my job tonight much easier.

"I am so sorry! It's so crowded in here, please forgive my rudeness Ms...."

She turns her full attention to me eyeing me from head to toe

"Nadia Burrows and you are?"

"Alena Fields, visiting a close friend of mine for the summer" She nods, her eyes still judging in every way possible.

Latrisha Ingram takes control of the conversation, ignoring Nadia.

"Ms Fields, welcome to our 10 Years Charity Event, we hope you are enjoying yourself" She gives me a warm smile while her husband stares at my chest. Disgusting asshole.

"Thank you so much Mr and Mrs Ingram, this event is very beautiful, I defiantly see this organization become another success" Nadia rolls her eyes and sips her wine

"Such kind words Ms Fields, what is your occupation if you don't mind us asking"

Mr and Mrs Ingram wait for my answer, earning an even more curious look from Nadia.

"My father was Neurosurgeon, he left his legacy to me after he passed away. I plan on continuing in his footsteps to become a surgeon myself"

Ms Ingram places her hand over her heart. "Oh poor dear, our condolences"

"Your father would be so proud young lady, your donation would be a great honor" Mr Ingram says, chugging down his bear.

Nadia smiles with fake compassion and places her hand against my shoulder "So you inherited, I'm sure you worked hard to get here today, congratulations" If only I could kill her now.

Ms Ingram looks at her in disgust "Ms Burrows, I was under the assumption you inherited from your late husband's life insurance"

I bite my lip holding in a laugh.

Nadia gasps, she looks at Mr Ingram in hope that he would put his wife in check. He looks to the side avoiding eye contact.

"I'm going to use the ladies room, please excuse me" She stomps off earning a victory grin from Ms Ingram

"Do enjoy yourself Ms Fields, we hope to see you around this summer"

I smile and clink glasses with both of them as I walk over to Margo. She's hanging over one of the waiters. Of course, she is.

I grab the drink from her hand and pull her to the balcony.

"Wait!!! Alena that way Paul! he was eye candy, I wanted to take him home"

Damn my best friend is a damn idiot.

"Dammit Margo don't be yourself right now. We have a job to do"

She rolls her eyes and pulls out her phone. "Um you need to get moving babe, Nadia is headed on the 42nd floor"

A red blinking light is moving on her tracker "Did you really label her tracker name as Itchy Hoe?" She giggles and sips her wine.

I place my Bluetooth in my right ear and head down the stairs to the main floor

"Damn you look sexy walking away right now boo" I ignore her annoying voice in my ear and head towards the door.

I notice the bartender showed up, and the sweetest person I ever met is now just a memory.

"She's in room 902, her tracker isn't moving, she's probably hoeing" Margo should know she isn't the one to talk

I rush up the stairs to the ninth floor and head down the hallway and stop in front of room 901

"Margo I need you to hack the lock system for room 901"

Within 10 seconds, I hear the lock click. I turn the handle and rush inside while scanning the room

"I looked at the reservations list. No one booked the room, your good" Margo says reassuringly

I let out a calm breath and walk to the balcony. Nadia's room is the next balcony over. I throw off my heels and climb onto the rail. Just as I'm about to jump over I feel a gun pressed against the back of my head

I turn my head slightly to see Nadia with an evil grin on her face. I try to hold my balance on the railing. She finally speaks and pulls the gun from my head "I knew it. Alena Pierce is alive"

I don't even bother denying it. I jump back down onto the balcony, causing her to set off the safety on the gun.

"How the hell are you alive Alena Pierce!"

I shake my head walking towards her, the gun now pointed in between my eyes.

"You should've made sure I was dead, your going to pay for taking my family away from me"

I grab her hand and twist the gun from her hand. "Turn around!"

She smiles, putting her hands in the air as she kneels on the ground. I put the gun to her head ready to pull the trigger.

"Your so confused little girl"

I push the gun against her head, causing her to growl. "How did you know I was alive Nadia"

"I noticed how you rudely bumped into me just to start a conversation. Only someone with intentions would go through such lengths. Your eyes were fueled with hatred for me. Your defiantly your father's daughter"

"Shut up! Your going to finally going to get what you deserve"

She chuckles, pushing me to my breaking point. "You won't pull that trigger honey"

Margo rushes in, pointing her gun towards Nadia's back

"But I can bitch".

Margo looks at me with concern, trying to her best to stop my rage from surging

"Why did you betray my family"

She shrugs, and looks at me with fury. "Your mother was a fool for marrying your father and she deserved to end up the way she did. As for your disgusting father, he.."

Before she can finish, blood splashes onto my face as she falls forward on the ground at my feet. A bullet hole surging from her head.

" MARGO!!!"

She shakes her head, dropping the gun as she backs away from the body " It wasn't me I swear!"

Margo grabs my hand and pulls me towards the door " We have to go, Now!"

We run out the door, heading towards the elevator. Margo pulls out her phone and deactivates the cameras as we run into the elevator. Both of us trying to catch our breath, we look at each other trying to piece together what just happened

"Who The Hell Pulled The Trigger"
