Foot

POV Albe:

I was running as fast as I could, I didn't know why the kid was so afraid of being in this maze too long, but I quickly answered that question when I see doors as tall as the wall itself closing us in.

Gregory sprinted ahead of me. And I was already tired so I didn't know if I was going to make it. Using all the gas my tired legs had I sprinted through the door, turning to my side I had to slip through the closing doors, but right when I thought I was out my foot got stuck. Falling face first into the ground I see my foot start getting crushed.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh"

The pain was unbearable, Gregory started tugging my toot as hard as he could, the first tug, the foot budget but the heel was still inside, and the second tug and the foot were out.  My foot was broken, I could tell by the horrible pain coming from it. The pain was so bad that I passed out.

Pov Gregory:

'Good he passed out, Doing first aid is going to be much more painful than getting them broken, I need to get the med kit that was sent. I didn't expect to use it this soon.'

I was able to get a good look at Albe now. He was a black teenager, maybe 17 years old, and his head was shaved. He was quite tall, but skinny, with no muscles.

When the elevator came up they gave us a med kit along with our other supplies, running towards the med kit even though my legs were telling me to give up. Right by the elevator was the med kit sitting there, I quickly grabbed it and ran back.

I tripped my way over to the teenager, my legs needed to get to him and then they could rest. Falling right next to his foot, I was successful, he was still out cold, but I needed to hurry lest he had to feel his bones moving around in his foot. I grab the foot and inspect it, there is no bleeding, I would use ice on the foot for 20 minutes if I had any but I had to skip it, I started wrapping the foot in some wrap.

'Ok now that is done I should bring him to a proper bed, not that I had one, but somewhere more comfortable.'

I slid my arms under his back and using my legs that were protesting, I was able to pick him up, but only barely. My legs wanted to stop, but I pushed through, carrying him across the entire gorge.

I carefully put him down on my bed, though with some struggle, and as soon as he was down I dropped right next to him. I don't think my legs can do anything even if I wanted them to, so all I can do is lay down on the ground and get some rest.

POV Albe:

I woke up to the morning sun, I couldn't see a sunset or rise, the walls were blocking my view. I was on a pile of leaves, slightly more comfortable than the ground. The foot was still hurt, but it wasn't as bad as yesterday. Next to me, I saw Gregory peacefully sleeping.

'So it wasn't a dream. Did that kid carry me over here, all the way from the wall? Why? What does he gain from it? He also patched up my foot…'

Gregory groggily started getting up.

"My name is Albe"

I remembered a while ago, but I never really had the time to tell him. He rubbed his eyes.

"Ah, well hello Albe, is Albe hungry?"

I chuckled.

"Yes, Albe is hungry"

That seemed to lighten the mood, it was a stupid joke but it made us forget about our situation, but only for a second. He stood and winced, he rubbed his legs with his hands.

"So sore"

He hobbled his way over to the rations box, he bent down with some struggle and got some food for the both of us. Before hobbling back.

"Here"

He gave me some rations.

"This is so bland"

"Imagine surviving a month off of them."

Silence instead as we are our bland meal.

"Hey… why did you save me"

"... Don't think too much into it, I've been in here without any human interaction for a month, I wanted to save you so I could have some."

'I guess that makes sense. Also, this kid seemed to be a lot more mature than he should be at his age.'

*Cough* *Cough* The food was dry and with my already dry mouth, I coughed.

"I'll get some water"

He hobbled up and made his way to a fire pit, where we were sleeping right next to it. I was also under a makeshift shelter, the fire seemed to be out.

"Crap…the fire went out… I'll be right back"

Pov Gregory:

"Crap…the fire went out… I'll be right back"

I made my way over into the woods, I had to find more burn stuff. My legs were the sorest they have ever been in my life, and they will probably be worse tomorrow.

The main reason I saved Albe was to have some social interaction, but the second reason was to save my GP, if he died I'd probably get a prompt that said, 'Side quest, Save Albe, Failed'.

Gathering the burny stuff I place it in the fire pit, luckily it was still hot enough to catch on fire without me having to use the bow drill. Gathering more sticks and a log I put them into the fire and now I have a roaring fire. Filling the pot with water I put it on the flame. When it reaches a boil I put it off the fire.

"We need to let it cool but we have water."

Time passes and Albe is unable to move, so I've become his caretaker. I needed to figure out a way to make a proper bed, I also needed to make a proper shelter, I had all the tools for it. We quickly ate the meat, it would quickly spoil without a way to cool it, so we ate it.

The vegetables are coming along nicely, all of the seeds have shown signs of growth, so that's good. I made a walking stick for Albe, he rarely ever uses it because it hurts him to move. I also wanted to have a large container so I could hold more fresh water at once, instead of having to boil water every time.

I also talked with Albe every day. It was currently spring, I could tell by how many little yellow flowers populated the glade, they were everywhere.

"Hmm, we should make a moat in front of each wall, what if one day the walls don't close we would be prey for the monsters in the maze, ready for slaughter."

"That's a good idea, except that it would take a very long time for you to do even 1 of the lets"

"Let's just scratch it up into a future project then. The elevator will be coming up in a week, who do you think we are going to get"

"I don't know, but let's hope it's not someone bad."

"How is your foot feeling?"

"Better, how long do you think it will take for it to heal?"

"1 maybe 2 more months."

*Sigh* "I guess I could wait."

So another week passed, and nothing new happened, the vegetables looked to be growing and I think they would be done by next month. I had been practicing with my first for the entire month. I was still bad but had made a lot of progress, it was especially hard when I didn't have a mentor or a training partner.

I had not gone into the maze this month, I was in no rush, I also had to take care of Albe, so I didn't have any time. I also did my physical training, basic running, push-ups, and sit-ups, when my body wasn't sore, I noticed my body was making progress.

In my head, I was practicing remembering things. If I ever got into another situation as I did with Albe, I think I would be prepared.

It was mid-day, me and Albe were chatting when we heard the elevator coming.

"I guess we have to go check it out"

Albe got his walking stick and stood, I guess he wanted to go see the new person.

"Ok, do you need help?"

"No, I can do it myself"

We walked over to the elevator ready to meet the new person.
