Chapter 12: Office

Lin Fan didn't waste any time heading into the vent above the stall, but of course, he also made sure that no one would disturb him.

Lucky for him, there was an out of order sign that was in the maintenance room that was right beside the bathroom that he took out and placed on the door.

Once that was set, he climbed up on the toilet and removed the cover of the vent to climb up into the vent. The strange thing was that the cover of the vent came off with just a single pull, it strangely wasn't bolted in like one would expect it to be.

It was almost as if there was someone clearing the way for him.

Well, it wasn't exactly someone per say, but there was someone that was clearing the way for him.

It was something that shouldn't exist in this world…

Lin Fan crawled through the vents and it didn't take him long to reach his target which was a good thing since the vents were burning hot. It was currently summer and being in a tight vent was definitely not the place that he wanted to be.

When he reached the opening that was displayed on his map, Lin Fan didn't immediately open the vent cover. Instead he opened up the slits to peek down and he found that he was in another maintenance room, but it was a good thing that it was empty.

After carefully pulling off the cover which once again was strangely loose and easy to pull off, he landed in the room without making a single sound.

It was strange because he knew that with his physique before, it would have been impossible for him to pull off such a physical feat, but he was strangely doing it quite easily now.

If just ten points were enough to increase his physical abilities like this, what would happen if he were to increase his strength even more?

Lin Fan took a second to dream about this, but then he shook that thought out of his mind.

In the end, what he was dealing with were gangsters and gangsters didn't just rely on their fists. These people broke the laws and were naturally dangerous, their weapons of choice were obviously guns.

So Lin Fan took a moment to scout out his surroundings, but there was nothing for him to see since it was nothing more than an empty closet.

But Lin Fan was certain that he was on the seventh floor since in that vent, he had crawled up two sets of ladders to reach this room. Two sets of ladders, which would equate two floors, so this should be the place.

Once he had made sure that he was safe here, Lin Fan first took a look at the map the system gave him.

This was a map of the floor, with a clear path marked on it to what Lin Fan assumed was the office. Even though he had never been here before, the system had given him a perfect map of the layout of this building, even drawing a path to where he wanted to go.

It was almost as if Lin Fan had forgotten that the system had revived him three times yesterday…

After memorizing the path, Lin Fan slowly opened the door and peeked his head out, but once again, it was the same strange thing. There was no one outside the door in the hallway, it was almost as if there was someone clearing the way for him…

But of course, Lin Fan wouldn't let his guard down in this crucial moment.

He carefully moved his way through the halls, prepared to dodge and hide the moment he heard any sound, but there was nothing to be heard.

As he slowly made his way through the floor, he saw many different doors all around him. There were many that were closed, but there were also a few that were opened.

Through the opened doors, Lin Fan saw many interesting things, all of them illegal.

If someone were to find any of the things in the room, it was enough to have everyone in this building arrested, but they weren't what Lin Fan was looking for.

Sure he could destroy this group of gangsters, but that wouldn't solve his problem.

Liu Yue's father was the leader of this entire group of gangsters, so he clearly had a way out even if he were to lose this hideout. They were a group that were strong enough to control an entire area with the police being aware of it, they definitely wouldn't be a weak group.

To take down the pawns, one had to take the king.

So even after seeing all this evidence, Lin Fan continued forward on the path that the system had set for him.

Eventually, he came to an open door at the end of the corridor which led right into an office. This was an office that looked no different from a normal office, if anything, it looked even more boring than a normal office.

There weren't any personal items at the desks at all, it was the perfect example of a boring office.

But that was also strange.

Since these were gangsters, why would they need this office?

If it was in a place that people could access, it would make sense as a cover, but why is there an office like this in a place that was filled with evidence against them?

Still, Lin Fan didn't have time to think any further on this since he was still in their territory and in a dangerous position.

The moment Lin Fan had entered the office, the map had changed once again to a layout map of the office with a single desk highlighted.

Lin Fan made his way by keeping his head under the top of the desks so no one would be able to see him and soon he made his way to that desk. This was one of the very normal desks in this office, but the drawer of this desk was strangely ajar.

Lin Fan easily pulled open the drawer and all he saw was a key that was being held there.

When Lin Fan took the key, the map the system showed him had changed once again.

This time, the dot that was being highlighted was at the back of the office.

When Lin Fan turned to look in that direction, he saw that there was a door waiting for him.

Lin Fan slowly made his way over to the door, but as he came closer he couldn't help hearing sounds that were coming from it. The sounds were deep thuds, almost as if there was something being hit.

When Lin Fan finally came up to the door, he could hear the thuds more clearly and there were faint whispers which he couldn't understand.

Looking down at the handle of the door, there was a lock that was waiting for him. It was clear what the key that he had just obtained was.

Inserting the key and opening the lock, he made as little sound as possible. It was a good thing that thud sounds came from the room while he turned the key and the handle to open the door.

Once the door was opened, the voices from inside became much more clear and they were just what Lin Fan had expected.

First there was a strong "thud" sound before a voice said, "Are you finally willing to talk?"

There was no answer to this voice before another "thud" sound rang out.

Then there was a second voice that said, "Now, now, just tell my associate here what he wants to hear and we can all walk away from this without any harm."

Finally, there was a third voice that said, "Without any harm? Are you serious?"

There was a clear sarcastic tone to this voice.

There was another "thud" sound before the second voice said, "There's no need to act tough, we already know about your hideout. Our boss is leading our boys to your warehouse tonight. All we want to know is who betrayed us?"

There was a spitting sound this time before a series of "thuds" followed it.

After a while, the second voice said, "Stop, stop, you'll kill him. We still haven't got the information we wanted yet."

The first voice said, "He's not gonna talk. Besides we still have the other one trapped don't we?"

The second voice paused for a bit before saying, "Alright, clean this one up. I'll go get the next one."

Lin Fan knew that it was time to go when he heard this, but before he could do anything, there was a new voice that came from behind him that said, "Who are you?"

When he turned around, all he saw pointed at his face was the muzzle of a gun.

Even if Lin Fan had overcome his fears of death previously, this was different since this was an actual gun that was pointed in his face. His only experience with guns before was seeing them on television and seeing one in real life now, he couldn't stop his legs from turning soft.

The second voice from before rang out as it said, "What's going on out here?"

The fourth voice that belonged to an average looking man with a scar across his cheek in a suit said, "I found this rat snooping around."

Lin Fan turned back to look at the second voice and saw another gangster who had a decent appearance with slicked back hair, with a single strand that was hanging down in front of his eye.

This second voice said, "Wait a minute, I recognize this face. This is the face that the boss told us to look out for."

Why do sweat glands exist? I seriously hate sweating...
