Dear Dove

You can get much further with a kind word and a gun than you can with just a kind word. – Al Capone An iron fist and a merciless cold metal gun, the mafia code that was taught to Zane Scarlet by his father. What good could she possibly be? excerpt: "We already agreed where your place ends, Rose. There's no need any further argument. This Is final." Zane pinched the bridge of nose, turning to leave. A small hand grabbed the much larger one. An unexpected move. "What if I don't want my place to end there?" the low, quivering voice asked. "What if I want this to be real?" --------------------------------------------------------------------- Little Dove I love you so but I know you have to go. Other Affairs

Zane would have argued that she couldn't have been serious since he had all of her important personal items in the wallet that he had taken ahold of, but he could see by the look that was on her face that she wasn't joking around anymore.

Now that she had been cleared, it seemed that she didn't really care what he did, she just wanted to be out of his company.

"You probably have to wait for about another five minutes then. My driver isn't back yet and the rain is coming down at a rather steady pace that is certain to soak you." Zane told her.

Although it was against his usual conduct, he put her wallet back on the table as though to offer it as a means to keep her there by showing that he was willing to give it back to her. He even slid it a little closer to her side of the table.

Rose didn't seem interested in taking her seat again however despite the fact that a few people were now glancing over and watching what was going on.

The woman had said that she didn't want to draw much attention to what was going but that was exactly what she was doing at the current moment in time by being standoffish with the young mafia boss instead of taking her seat again.

"I hardly think that you need to worry about a little bit of rain being able to do anything to me." She scoffed as he glanced over at the front door of the café.

"In the same way that a cigarette is hardly able to do anything to you, a little bit of rain isn't going to melt any worse than it already has." She couldn't deny though that the rain did look like it was coming down in a more menacing manner than it had been before.

"Melt you? If you would declare what the rain has done to you thus far as melting, I would rather have to agree then that it seems as though it can touch you that much. Maybe it takes a little something different to really melt you." Zane teased.

He wanted to say something else to her when he noticed the way Rose narrowed her eyes in response to his comment but didn't get the chance as his phone buzzed to indicate that Clive was back. An indication that it was time for them to get out of there.

Since he had effectively stolen her wallet, it meant that he didn't have to argue with the woman who was going to pay as he had already won that little tuff.

He ended up leaving a twenty on the table even though he knew that nothing they had ordered amounted to near that much.

"It seems that you will be granted your wish to be able to leave here sooner rather than later as my driver just got back." He informed her as he stood up from the table.

"I presume that would rather take this back now?" He asked as he held out the wallet to her.

Rose was quick to snatch it out of his hands and put it back in her purse before he could change his mind and pull it away from her again.

Despite how close they were standing to each other and the more evident height difference between them, Rose still didn't seem as intimidated by the young mafioso as she did annoyed.

Maybe she really did have nerves of steal and that was what made it so easy for her to interact with him the way that she did.

"I am fine making my way back on my own, you don't have to do anything else." Rose informed her as she turned to head towards the front door of the café.

"You can keep trying to say that all you want, but that isn't going to stop me from doing what I want which is to take you back safely." Zane replied as he followed closely behind her.

He even already had the umbrella opened up before she had touched the door handle.

He took a moment to thank the woman who had served them before walking out after Rose. He didn't care so much if he got soaked but made sure to keep the umbrella covering her as they stepped out into the torrential rain.

So long as he changed clothes once he got back, there was little risk that he would end up getting sick from this.

Rose didn't really want to get back in the car with Zane. But seeing that it was idling in the same exact place it had been when they entered the café and the only way around it would require her to walk through a flooded area which would effectively ruin her rather expensive flats, she ended up opting to get in the car.

Her rebellious act in response to this seemed to be to keep her mouth shut even after Zane had gotten back into the car. He ended up being a little more soaked than he had expected to be by the time he got back inside.

Clive seemed to have the forethought to turn up the heater so the inside of the car wasn't all that chilly.

"Please take the lady back to where we picked her up from. Our conversation is done for today." He told his driver who simply nodded as he reversed the car so that he could get out of the parking lot.

"Where did the other one get off to?" The young mafioso asked when he noticed that the front passenger seat was now empty.

He had expected that both of them were going to be coming back so the empty seat came as a rather large surprise to him.

"There was something else he was called to attend to that prevented him from coming back with me." Clive replied.

Zane didn't bother asking any further questions as he knew the information he was looking for was the kind that ought not to be spoken about with the passenger they had in the car.

Luckily, the drive wasn't a far one so the stifling silence didn't last long in the car before it was time for the woman to get out.

The timing even seemed rather perfect as the next bus had just pulled up and was waiting to pick up any passengers before taking off again.

"I'm sure that sometime in the future our paths will end up crossing again." Zane remarked as Rose got ready to get out of the car.

"I highly doubt that any such thing will happen. At least if I have anything to say about it." She retorted.

This time she at least didn't have to deal with the baby locks being put into place as she opened the car door.

He was going to offer her his umbrella but before he got the chance, she ended up shutting the car door in his face.

The young mafioso watched as she disappeared around the side of the bus without so much as one look back in their direction before she ended up disappearing.

"Was the conversation as beneficial as you were hoping it would be? It seems from here that perhaps the young lady has left with the upper hand?" Zane let out a short, derisive chuckle in response to this comment.

"I wouldn't quite say that. I did get the information that I was wanting out of her. Certainly not an easy person to deal with, but I don't quite think that she was the one who was able to leave with the upper hand." He replied.

If he hadn't been able to snatch her wallet though, there would have probably been a different story to tell in which she did leave while being the person who came out on top.

And whether she liked it or not, he was going to make certain their paths did cross again in the future. She was the kind of person Zane was certain would come in handy at the right time.

"No point in sticking around here any longer. I can already tell by the clock that I will be pushing the time for our next appointment. Do you know if the old man will be there?" Clive shook his head as he began to pull out of the parking spot.

"As far as I'm aware, you're the only person who is going to be taking care of this." The driver replied.

"Of course, anything can change in a moment's time but I think for now you're in the clear to do as you wish this time around."

"That's good to hear. I really don't want to have to deal with anything that will dampen my mood after the interesting evening I've had. I would like to keep it going through the rest of the night."

If he ended up having to deal with this father, he was certain that the night wouldn't end of a good note.

For one, the other would likely have some complaint or other about what his son should have done differently. For another, he would probably demand to know why the other was late and that information wasn't something he would easily give up.

"Do you think that other affairs is a good enough of an excuse to be able to get out of another family meal later this week?" Zane suddenly asked as he watched the rain bounce and roll off his car window. It seemed to desperately want to get inside to soak him more than he already was.

"After what happened last time, I think not. Best to suck it up this time and save an excuse for another."

It wasn't the answer that Zane was hoping for but Clive was rarely wrong when it came to the advice that he gave.

Other affairs were just going to have to include dining with this father this time around.
