24. Before Starting

"What are those changes.", Yun Lui asked in all seriousness. Papa Chi handed Yun Zhao to Chi Lan and sat straight up facing Yun Lui.

"We will combine both pictures together. You'll run the business on your own first. Start as you had plan earlier. Your business needs to have a good footing first before any expansion.

Our proposal will start a year after you have already established yourself here in the capital. This will help generate some form of goodwill. The loyal customers that you manage to secure here will be the ones to tell others about your products.

So you're officially on your own for the first year of the business. We as your family will only help from the side lines, nothing heavy.

During this period, I will observe you to see if you're worth being partnered with or not. Your brothers will assist you with the legalities involved. Be sure to do everything yourself with only their guidance.

This is it for now. We will talk business a year after the business is officially established. I will look at every detail in all of the business documents. It'll have to be worth my investments." Papa Chi said and took back Yun Zhao who has left Chi Lan and was standing by his side, on his laps again.

"Yes father. Thank you so much. I'll work hard to make it worth your investments.", Yun Lui said happily.

He had been quite apprehensive when his adoptive father had stated that he had some changes to make. It turns out that here was nothing to worry about.

These changes if anything, they help me to take his to do things a lot more at his pace and he gets to experience many things since he will have to do everything now.

It seemed difficult this way but he was more excited as compared to earlier. This new idea feels just right for him.

Three Months Later

Yun Lui was able to get the documents needed to establish her business. They were all temporary documents which he will have to renew annually because he still did not have a name tag.

It's been three months now since he started the procedures to get his business registered in other to have his products branded.

While he was working on his papers, he decided to get people to be familiar with the products by the time his papers will be ready. He needs to start to advertise to them with some samples too.

So he invested about a 10% of his savings from the allowances that both his father and brother have given him for the past years, into advertising his products before they come into the market.

He used part of the money to get some very small containers. He used the remaining to buy some of the raw products needed from the farmers from other towns and villages.

He transformed them and put them into the small containers and covered each one of them. His family assisted him whenever they were free, even Papa Chi and the twins.

Except that the twins left him more work than help, they even end up being covered in them and will then cry when they get into their eyes, so he stopped them from coming around when he was working.

After preparing the samples, Yun Lui went from the shops that deal in spices to introduce his products to them. Some were really nice people.

Others too will act like they were not listening yet will ask sensible questions at the end, meaning that they actually listened.

He gave a sample each of the different varieties to those who gave him the chance to talk with them. Some took the samples but it did not look like they'll even give it a mind.

Only a few like Papa Gu, the owner of the biggest shop in the capital, were encouraging.

When he felt like he had visited enough shops, he went to the inns and those who prepared food and sell. He gave all who allowed him, a sample each of the different varieties of his products.

It took a while for him to get the papers. Now that he realised that he had more time on his hand, he took out 5% more of his savings and created another batch of samples.

This time, he went from house to house, door to door. With the houses, he only gave a single sample to each person. He no longer want to touch his savings for advertisement. He felt he had done enough for now.

It was still left with a six weeks before his papers will be ready. He to start with the first batch of production but on a very small scale.

So once again he went into his private coffers and withdrew another 15% of his savings. The products were ready in two weeks time and packed in bags of jute sacks for the time being.

Now, he was still left with about a month to obtain the official business documents, Yun Lui decided to go and check on the feedbacks from those he had given the samples to.

Since it was more likely that those in at home will use theirs a lot faster than the market people, he decided to go the houses first and hear their comments.

Today, his brother did not go to. He's going to ask him to accompany him. He found him in their living room reading a book. "Brother, are you busy?", he asked

"No. Do you need my help with something?", Muchen asked.

"I was hoping that you could accompany me to follow up on those I gave the samples to. I want to start with those at home before going to check on the shops and other business people.", Yun Lui said.

"Okay. Give me a moment", Muchen said without further questions and left to change in his room.

He came back about ten minutes later and together they set off.
