The mayor is in town

-Lucas pov -

I stood across from Slade both of us were calmly looking at each other waiting for someone to make a move first.

"The invasion halted my plans," he said his voice grating my eardrums

"I hope those plans don't involve my family I quite like my brother right now," I replied while calmly grabbing a bottle of whisky

"It's naive of you to even entertain the idea of my plans not involving your family," he replied accepting one of the glasses

We finally sat down across from each other, and both of us knew in our hearts this could get dangerous.

"He wasn't the cause of her death slade," I said shaking my head sadly

"You weren't there," he replied calmly but I saw his muscles tense

I sighed while tiredly rubbing my forehead, "I wasn't but, I know this hatred for Oliver is something you are containing out of loss, not passion,"

He scowled, "you know nothing of my loss Lucas. Stay out of my way or this will get messy I warned you out of respect,"

I laughed lightly but my eyes stayed cold, "hahaha, Slade let me return the favor out of respect then,"

*swoosh* I instantly was before him and my hand was plunged into his gut it wasn't a killing blow as he has super regeneration

But the pain was still there.

"Argh!" he grunted in pain and swung his arm to knock me off but Dembe appeared and held him down

"You come to my city and tell me not to interfere with your business that involves my family? And hide your threats under the veil of respect? Slade, I respect you and value your small friendship outside of this grudge but, I can't even recognize you," I pulled my arm back and slowly walked over to my table

*clank* I picked up my bottle and poured another glass

My blood-stained hand smeared over the fine glass.

"You know Slade I wouldn't be as mad if you would have at least thought of backing off there is always more battles to be fought going after Oliver is just plain idiocracy," I said sipping my drink

"You told me you wouldn't interfere over the phone," Slade replied

"That was before the invasion happened, we were still rebuilding and many are still injured. You going after him now will force me to act as I won't let you kill him," I replied while signaling dembe to let him go

Slade moved his shoulders in a circular fashion as if he was trying to relax his sore shoulders, then he picked up his glass and downed it seemingly not bothered by the wound in his chest.

"You make a good point but, this doesn't mean I won't have my revenge Lucas," Slade said before walking toward the door

"Slade, try having a real conversation with him," I called out

"Go fuck yourself," he yelled back exiting the house

I shrugged and poured myself another glass this time if blood, I looked at Dembe and gestured to the glass as if asking if he wants one. He nodded.

After we both got our fill I went upstairs to change, the election is starting tomorrow and I want to be sure I am seen helping the community.

Which strangely enough I actually want to.

As I entered the closest shelter someone caught my eye, a little girl sat next to her mom at one of the tables waiting to be fed. These shelters were made rapidly when the invasion happened and many are still down here either homeless because their houses were destroyed during the fighting or because they are too scared to go to the surface.

Sadly these shelters will be disbanded soon because they are in prime areas to build real heavy-duty shelters and improvements need to be made.

I walked over to the little girl stopping and talking to others as I ventured closer and closer. My face felt strained from all of my smiling.

"Mayor Queen what do you think about the invasion?" someone asked and the room quieted

I smiled softly at the woman and winked at her, "I'm not mayor yet,"

"The invasion was something no one could have foreseen and as a whole, the world wasn't prepared for it to happen. With the trend of the world as of today sadly I see it happening again and again, be it foreign galactic threats to homegrown threats from powered individuals. I believe shelters like these need to be enhanced and improved upon so the people of our cities can feel a degree of protection," I added on and I heard a lot of agreements

"And what about the property damage?" someone yelled out

"I believe the property damage caused by situations like these needs to be paid for by the government and there should be specific loan options for this," I replied allowing an easy smile to spread across my lips

After escaping the press questions I looked for Emily who was the little girl I saw earlier but I couldn't see her anywhere.

-Narrator pov-

As Lucas went back to his normal life the aftermath of the invasion was just getting repaired, houses rebuilt, companies now bankrupt, hospital bills paid for by the government, and others who donated to help.

Jobs that require tight security and specific clearances now ran the blood of whoever they hired, and also tested for fears of fire.

Anything that could help find the remaining aliens.

Fear was prevalent many didn't know who to trust, and those with already bad mental health spiraled into an abyss of paranoia and anxiety.

The whole world might not be healing but, slowly things are being repaired, people helped and cities safe.

Oddly enough Gotham City home to the worst of the worst, the leading crime rate city in the world. The place where even children join the life of crime.

The place the joker lives, the place where criminals run rampant.

Oddly enough Gotham city was safe and sound, with the least amount of property damage and casualties.

No one knew how it happened but as if the stars were aligned everyone in the city worked to protect their city.

To kill the aliens, and for some to...

Have the last laugh.
