14 A Little Girl's Bizarre Appearance

"What… in the world?"

Kai couldn't believe what his eyes were seeing at this moment.

He expected waking up this morning to see his wife shoving those cursed divorce papers to his face. Yet, as it turned out, he found himself encountering something surreal instead. He found a tiny sleeping body first before seeing a small face framed by a mop of brown locks. For some strange reason, a girl no more than the age of five ended up on his bed.

Kai stared with wide eyes, struck befuddled like never before.

All sorts of thoughts ran through his head, but none of them fully registered in his stupefied state. The only thing he could actually do was drink in the sight in front of him, as though he was viewing something straight out of a dream.

He pinched himself then hissed. 'Nope. Not a dream.' He looked at the trespasser again.

"Mmhhh."

As if disturbed by how hard Kai was staring, the child began to stir awake.

His heart started racing faster, and he quietly gulped. 'Get a grip. What're you being scared for, Kai? It's just a kid.' That seemed to have magically appeared out of thin air, his mind added.

When the girl did nothing but turn over, though, Kai seemed to forget himself again –

That's because, for one quick second, he thought his wife was back. Now that Kai was able to get a better look at the child's sleeping face in this position, he could see that almost everything about her reminded him of Aria. From her long delicate lashes to her cute little nose, he could definitely see his wife in her.

"Hold on a sec. Could this mean… I have a daughter?!"

While that seemed likely at first, it's actually not possible. After all, they rarely saw each other, much less slept together. Despite being married for a year, they hardly ever acted like a couple. Not to mention, they're about to get a divorce.

"So, whose daughter is this?! Just what is happening?!"

If she was not his, and yet she resembled Aria so much it was uncanny, then that only meant one thing. 'Aria… cheated on me?' As soon as the thought struck Kai, he felt incredibly sick, his mind shutting down while his heart shattered.

He didn't know what was worse – her asking for a divorce, or him learning she had an affair.

He knew he'd been nothing but an awful husband to her. Not only was he a coward, but he was also unreliable. But even then, this was too cruel of her. He's a fool for believing that she'd been a loyal partner to him despite everything.

Kai shrunk, eyes dimming as though life was being sucked out of him.

It's clear that the child had been around long before they got married. 'That means she's been secretly seeing this guy even while we're still dating.' Or so he thought until he noticed what the girl was wearing on her finger.

It's the wedding ring that he gave to Aria. That's not all, though. She's also dressed in Aria's nightwear from the evening before. It's too big on her, of course.

Kai was almost at the end of his wits, but he tried to stay calm.

'Okay, there's a toddler on my bed, and not only does she look like my wife, but she's also wearing two things she owns. There's no way she's my child, considering we hadn't even met when she was born, so she's definitely from someone else. But then, if she's indeed a lovechild, she should've been kept hidden, not left behind in my room of all places.'

The more he tried to understand, the more he found himself disoriented. Instead of answers, all he got were more questions.

Kai was silent for a long while, and then, 'Should I call the police?'
