Pleasant surprise

Alex could only curse his own impatience and strain the new muscles to pull his wings flat against his body. Like all muscles Alex knew he would need to exercise the wings in order to get into flying condition. While disappointing it wasn't a big deal for Alex since as a monster his growth was much faster than a persons would be normally. The incredible ability to heal quickly from injuries meant that he could work his muscles much more before needing to let them rest for a shorter time. All things considered Alex guessed it would only take a week or two at most to get the muscles to the right level.

Alex also had an idea to lower this time considerably while also increasing his bodies strength at the same time. Alex remembered that in his past life on earth there was an argument that dragon-like creatures would likely find it hard to fly since their back muscles would be incorrect to walk on land and fly since flight muscles had a different structure. Alex wondered if he could use the system to give him both flight muscles and walking muscles like it did with the [swimming muscles] trait.

'Now how would i go about doing this?' he pondered seriously while ignoring Elisa who was still fussing over his wings. 'I image that eating an insect wouldn't work in this case so it would definitely need to be something else , maybe a crestbill?' he wondered seriously. Elisa got the information she could before leaving Alex alone to try and work out whatever he was thinking about. The news that alex had grown a pair of wings was a huge deal to the people of astera since the only monsters who had wings as well as four limbs were all elder dragons.

Alex had failed to consider this when he tried to get the wings since he simply didn't want to deal with the strangeness of his front limbs turning into wings. This basically told everyone that he was an infant elder dragon of some sort which would have been concerning had he not been pretty friendly to everyone he met. The fleet commander sent back this new information along with the supply ship to the guild since it was of serious importance. An elder on friendly terms with the people of the world had never happened in before which presented them with the unique opportunity to have a force of nature help them frequently.

There had been cases in the past were monsters would temporarily team up with hunters to remove a mutual threat before going back to their usual behavior. But since Alex's usual behavior WAS working together they were in unexplored territory. It was headache to think about in terms of what it implied but everyone agreed that it was a good thing to have an headache over. Meanwhile Alex had finally narrowed down his target for consumption to the wild wing drakes in the nearby forest.

The biggest problem however was that Alex knew he was at most an annoyance for even the weakest monsters in that forest. What was even worse was that the small jagras of the ancient forest were pack hunters that moved in groups of three or more at minimum. 'I suppose i'll need an escort if i want to grab one of the wild drakes safely. before that though i need to get these wings working for just in case purposes' Alex decided calmly. For the next week and a half Alex hung out in the smithy to level up his heat resistance and work out his new wing muscles at the same time.

This paid off as it turned out that strengthening the new limbs let the trait level up while Alex had also hit the max level for the [heat resistance] trait which was five. This had caused an entirely new trait to be unlocked much to Alex's delight as it was the [fire resistance] trait. This was how Alex discovered that some traits actually required the maxing or unlocking of weaker traits in order to be gotten. For [fire resistance] he needed to max out [heat resistance] first which made perfect sense as it could be considered a higher tier trait.
