1 The Firing

"What?!"

Darren Chu glared daggers and knives at the good for nothing man in front of him who calls himself a lawyer. His lawyer! Their lawyer!

The filthy excuse for a lawyer sighed and Darren's glare sharpened. Not even trying to calm himself down because why would he? Fucking Walton Meyers humiliated him! His parents! Walton was the one who promised the Chu Family that he will get his parents out of prison and his house arrest will be lifted off but then again, winning is different on Darren's dictionary in contrast to Walton's.

Darren have fully expected his parents to be out by now but given that Walton is nothing but a money hungry man, they aren't. They are still locked in that dirty cell with nothing to do but repent for things Darren is sure they didn't do. They were innocent! Darren believes that.

"I am no match against-

"Yeah, you clearly don't. As long as you have the payments received, you'll let down your clients" Darren cut him off. Walton bowed his head low, whether wallowing in self pity or shame, Darren didn't care. He doesn't care at all. He just wants his parents out of the prison cell clearly reserved for the people who's truly doing the injustice and not for innocent people who's fate is to pay what they do not owe.

"You promised Meyers! YoU FUCKING PROMISED!" he shouted in anger-no, he's not angry. He's fuming.

"I apologize Lord Chu. The people behind it are on a pedestal." he tried to reason out but Darren isn't listening to rationality right now. He promised his parents he'll prove the people wrong but how could he when the best lawyer in town is, as he claims, no match against whoever are behind his parents' arrest.

"I hear you underestimating my family name" Darren said sarcastically. "You're fired" he added.

Walton looked up, seemingly shocked at Darren's statement. "W-what?"

"You passed your bar exam and you can't understand a simple two-word statement?" Darren taunted and raised one fine eyebrow.

"But-

"Leave before I make you" he warned. He didn't care whether he sounded like threatening because Walton deserves it. The Chu name have been in humiliating news every day for the past month and he obviously doesn't need certain Walton Meyers adding fuel to the fire.

"H-how are you going to replace me? I can do this, j-just give me-

"Another chance? For you to ruin our family name even more? I can do this just fine" the truth is, Darren can't. He cannot do it alone but he's too prideful to admit that.

He glared once more to their former lawyer as he stood up gracefully, no matter what humiliation their name has went through and is going through, he's still the heir of the Chu wealth and he would carry himself and name with poise a member of Chu Family should have.

"I trust you don't need me to show you the way out" he added as he walked away, unyielding of his bratty exterior. He's known for that after all.

He went straight to his bedroom, looking out the window and watched Walton leaving the Chu's vast grounds. When Walton was no longer on sight, he sighed. Looking down, he saw what was locked on his ankle, the device that can alert officials if he as so much stepped one foot out of the house.

Ignoring the physical and emotional weight it dawns on him, he went to the living room as he grabbed their telephone and called his one and only female bestfriend- Lily Wu.

It rang for five times before someone answered.

"Hello?"

"Lily!" he called out and heard Lily sighed on the other side.

"Ren, what do your highness need?"

Darren rolled his eyes. He loves her for putting up with him though he would not say that to her face or else Lily would be throwing a party for his softness.

"A lawyer" he answered, his demanding tone not quivering.

"What have you done?" Lily asked and just then Darren found himself blowing off.

"ME?! What have I done?! It's what Walton have done! He humiliated my parents in their trial! He told me he'd get them out today but guess what? He didn't by claiming that the people behind it are too high on their horses! So I fired him! I don't need a cheap lawyer like that!" he ranted.

He once again heard Lily sighed. "Cheap? You paid him five hundred thousand Ren! Tell me how's that cheap for yo-oh yeah. I get it. You're too wealthy for someone like him" said Lily sarcastically.

Ignoring what Lily said, he spoke. "I need a lawyer"

"Do you want our family lawyer?"

"Of course not! Your family lawyer is too soft for cases like this! I don't need her hugging me for sympathy" Darren shuddered at the thought.

"But she's great" Lily crossed. "Whatever you say but definitely not her"

"You do know many people. Why don't you go find yourself one?"

"May I remind you I am on house arrest?"

Lily chortled. "My bad. Been busy having fun outside"

He nearly cursed Lily. He really nearly did.

"A lawyer Lily" he reminded her.

"Who do you want?"

"One who's the best, powerful, and stands up for his word"

Lily's silence was heard on the other line followed by one another heavy breath. "You do realize you're only talking about one man, do you?"

"What?" Darren asked in confusion.

"I know someone but I cannot say for sure I will be able to get him handle your case" Lily said casually.

"Why won't you?" he asked in challenging tone.

"Ren, we're talking about the famous French lawyer here. That one who's reigning cases after cases and whose name belongs to a royal family" Lily informed him.

"I don't care. Get him" Darren said with finality.

"I'll ask Jack or Lee's help but I cannot say for sure. I don't even know what he looks like!" Lily immediately answered. Jack is her businessman brother and Lee is their male best friend.

"Get him and I'll get you your the newest jewelry from Elroy Golds." he smirked when he heard Lily's sharp intake of breath.

"Say no more your highness" and Lily ended the call.
