Chapter 11: Family and Truth; The Hunter; New Teacher at Forks High
(Previously...)
Well, let's enjoy life as it goes, and I let slip my shields as I arrived home so that would let Alice know why I was acting the way I did at school. If anything with the Cullens goes south, I might just go after Leah of the wolves, just in case I have a falling out with the vamps. 'Well, now that I'm here at home alone, sitting around doing nothing, I should get my class schedule and homework assignments done.
I do plan to go next week for classes, you know the one that I'm supposed to be taking over, what was that class again...' as I check the list that was given to me by Charlie. Look at the list of students that are assigned to this class, 'Hmmm, Trigonometry, what a coincidence, Edythe Cullen... didn't we met in this same type of class all those years ago.'
I laughed to myself at the thought of meeting her again in the same situation as we did in California in 76. Then I started working on the class topics so I would be ready for next week's class and pre-did the homework for students for the next couple of weeks in advance. It's not like I'll be coming in until next week anyways, I have a lot of time, I'll make sure to tell Charlie so he can tell the school...
POV Cullen household....
With the school day finally over, the Cullen kids finally went home, with three girls in the back seat of the car sporting sad faces. After getting home, Edythe, Jessamine, and Alice were talking while hanging around the dinner table for Carlisle to come back from his job at the hospital. Then suddenly Alice went quiet, she was having a vision, "Alice!!" Edythe spoke out to her sister as she waited for her to respond.
And Edward being Edward can't fucken stop himself from invading Alice's mind. He started viewing what Alice was seeing and it surprised him and worried him at the same time. Good thing that Carlisle was called earlier, Edward wanted a family meeting right after school and he called his father in as soon as he could arrive and now he had worse news to put out.
Edward loves to demand a lot from his family, but they always get very little from him back and sometimes the others get very upset because of that. As they waited for Alice to come out of her vision, Edythe walks up to Edward staring at him in a threatening look. "So, did anyone know he was part of Chief Swan family?" Asked Rosalie as they all heard Carlisle's car arrive at their home.
"No! No one knew I'm sure, but there's more to this story than what we are not seeing." Said Edward, looking at his sisters and then at Alice who is just coming out of her vision. "Edward, why are you looking at us like that? And what do you mean by, what we are not seeing?" Asked Jessamine before Edythe could. "Let's wait for a bit, Carlisle just arrived!" Esmée said happily, and instantly Carlisle appeared in the living room hugging his wife.
He then turned around to face his kids after kissing his wife's lips and the meeting began, "So what's going on, Edward? What's the situation? Why the need of a meeting right after school, Edward?" Asked Carlisle wanting some answers for why he rushed home. "It's something about our soon to be mate, he's arrived in Forks!" Responded Alice while pointing at Jessamine, and Edythe and herself.
"Okay, Edward anything to add? Answer my questions, why are you calling this meeting?" Asked Carlisle with more interest after what Alice told him. "Yes Edward, why the family meeting?" Asked Edythe getting anxious, "Because it involves your mate. He can't join us! He's too dangerous if he does!" said Edward, which shocked the two girls but not Alice because what she saw just now confirmed why he was acting the way he did today.
"WHAT are you talking about? Get off your high horse Edward. Why is he dangerous? Just because you don't want a mate, doesn't mean we don't one." Said Edythe and Jessamine agreeing with her. "Please, Edward explain! In detail if you would." asked Esmée and Carlisle at the same time. "Well, since I still couldn't read his mind, and after that headache he gave me, it felt necessary to read Chief Swans mind. And what I saw was not good at all!"
Said Edward, feeling bad for the girls now. "So, what did you see? Stop talking in riddles dammit!!" Said Edythe as she was starting to get angry at Edward for trying to hide in riddles. Edward relented with a sigh and started to explained, "when Chris was at the University last we saw him back in 76, a major incident happened, his whole family was killed at his parents renewed wedding ceremony where they were redoing their vows again.
That incident happened in Paris, while he was in California! There were no survivors." Edward reiterating what he saw, the scene Charlie saw when he viewed the bodies of Chris's family at the morgue, not a pretty site I tell you. "Oh my God! I knew it!!! It's so sad, the way he must have felt, all alone." Said Alice almost crying, putting her hands in front of her mouth while small whimpers came from Edythe standing beside her.
All the Cullen's had different reactions, even Emmett who usually has a smile on his face. "I know, but that's not all! He knows about the vampires somehow. When Chris met Charlie back then in Paris, he told Charlie that his parents had two puncture marks on their necks and had no blood in their system. The police said it must have been organ raiders that killed them, but we know what that means."
Edward explained waiting for Carlisle to respond, who was contemplating if moving away to protect his family would be the right choice. "Don't tell me..." said Carlisle, Edythe was still shocked to the core when she finally realized, "You guessed it, Carlisle! A vampire killed his whole family when he went to identify his parents bodies. He know of us, and he might react badly towards us."
Edward finally finished detailing Chris's whereabouts after he left California. But doesn't account for the last 28 years after the incident. "But that's not the worst of it, remember how Carlisle had a call from the Voltori Coven back a few years ago. How there were a lot of Supernatural figures that were disappearing, well Chris is the one responsible for all that. He has been going around the world killing red eyed vampires."
Then he looked at Alice for her confirmation, for the vision she saw just now. "Ask Alice if you don't believe me, she just had the vision of him killing all those Vampires, witches , and Children of the moon." Carlisle looked toward Alice, "is what Edward said true, Alice?" She only nodded and the broke the tension as she raced away from the rest going to her room.
"How is the boy still alive after all this? It can't be!" Asked Esmée looking at Alice. "I don't know but I have a theory, the worst part is that everyone he comes in contact will think he's crazy, because he's mentioned the word vampire so many times! Chris will never trust us, I'm sorry, sisters." Edward continued while looking sad at his sisters. "Then we'd better move out of here before he finds out about us!"
Rosalie finished saying, earning her several nods from the male counterparts, but not from the three other girls. "NO, NO, NO!! I will not leave him! He is our mate; I will not leave him again! We can't just run away and leave like that! I refuse to go. What about you two?" said Edythe yelling from the top of the staircase, then looking to Jessamine and Alice for support.
Alice sitting by the side of the couch, she was trying to see if she could get a read or another vision on Chris at this moment. "I'm with Edythe! If I knew back then in 76 that he was meant to be ours, I wouldn't have left him alone. If we leave now, we will never have a mate and there is something bad that is going to happen to us all in the future if we leave without him. Don't ask what, it's just a very bad feeling that I'm having about choosing that route."
Said Alice, trying not to worry Carlisle and Esmee. "Well, let's see what happens if we see that it's not feasible to stay, we move. For now, I don't want any of you to approach the man. If it looks like he's trouble, we are leaving, is that clear?" He looked at the three girls for confirmation of his decision and what's best for the family as they nod one by one. "Good, meeting over and I hope that you three follow what I said."
Finally, with the meeting at its end, they had voted to leave him alone for safety sake... unfortunately for Edythe, Jess, and Alice they were overruled in the matter, four against three, but that didn't mean that that was what they were going to do, no, no, no, especially Edythe the rebel. At the end of the vote, they had decided to not approach him and to wear colored contact lenses to bring no suspicions to them.
Edythe POV...
During the week as it went by, I seen Chris come to school several times, but he would never get out of his car and soon he'd drive away. Not returning to the school and at this point its breaking my heart. I feel so heartbroken for what happened to his parents, back then I had wished I had the same powers as Edward so I could have read Chief Swan's mind as well to see what Chris has gone through.
I just want to help him release some of his fears against us, I know that he doesn't need to fear us, so he might not reject me at first. Alice and Jess are with me if he does not reject us, all I need is one chance for him to gets to know us, the real us. Then on the Friday that came, like the any other in the past week, I was taking a few quick glances around the parking lot when I saw him.
Chris was getting out of his car this time and it was surprising, he was wearing some type of headphones on his head that I've never seen before. He was wearing a dark black hooded sweater walking with his head down into the school building. 'Is he finally taking over his class that I signed up for, this might be my chance.' I thought to myself as I hurried into the school to tell Alice and Jess.
I got pretty upset with all the looks Chris was getting, saw the school sluts eyeing him out, some female students were walking way to close to my mate, and it was driving me crazy, I just wanted to punch their lights out. I never liked it when people stared at us before and I don't like the way they stare at him now, looking at him like he's weird or something.
I could hear all the whispering the students were doing as he walked bye, 'how their new teachers a loon,' that was making me very angry. But I got over it quickly as I was still happy that he had finally took the courage to take the first step outward and his willingness to advance from his fears was encouraging. After he passed me bye, I slowly followed him for a while to see what or where he would go.
Too bad I was too obvious, he spotted me as he walked into the principal's office and the door closed behind him. That was when I took the chance to go and tell Alice and Jess about Chris. "Alice! Jess! He's here. He came to school, he's at in the principal's office right now, and I have class with him later today." I snickered at the girls as they looked mad that they weren't. It was unfortunate for them that they don't have any classes with him, but I'll fix that by the end of the day.
CHARLIE SWAN's POV....
Poor Chris lost his whole family in one night, the worst part of it all is that the investigators had no clues on the murders. All this at the age of 19, I don't know how I would have reacted if I had to lose my only child, 'Isabella', God only knows how he's holding up alone. Well at least he seemed to be getting better little by little, after finding out that he was coming, I got him this job at the high school as a school Trigonometry teacher.
It was hard getting the school to approve him as a teacher, but it was harder getting him to go teach it. I sure as hell hope it doesn't backfire on me, so far all that's happened is that he would make some excuse not to get out of his car in the beginning and now that he's made it through the doors. I hope that he can put up with all those rumors that will be going around, especially from the students.
At least he hasn't developed a fear of the people in public or else he would have to order everything out for him home, I don't want Chris to be a shut in for life. I know it's going to take time to heal, but he needs to learn to adapt quickly, or his job will be given to someone else. That teachers position was hard for me to get, and it took all the clot I had to get for him.
Being a teacher at the high school would help with his closed off state, even if he didn't stay the whole year I would be happy. Today was a happy day, as I was spying... well, not spying better word would be watching over him... yeah that's it, after I saw him getting out of his car from a distance, I knew at that moment that I did the right thing, it wouldn't take Chris long to overcome this phase of his life.
The best feeling was when he entered the school building without turning back, I just hope he stays, and attends his class to teach! I should call the school's office so they could notify me if anything changes with him. "RING!! RING!!" About 30 minutes later, I knew it wouldn't take Chris long to call me and pick him up, but I was very proud of my young nephew for at least for trying. That was when I drove away to my work office.
2 years ago.... May 18, 2002...
The sky had begun to brighten in the early morning, and the normal grey sky of Forks appeared, which is extremely rare in this town. Chris was lying in his bed, with tangled bed hair under the cover, and didn't want to wake up. He was in his room, where he and his parents used to reside before they moved back to France; the only difference was that no one was waking Chris up because no one else lived in the house.
So, a lay about has been sleeping for days and has done nothing since moving back into his old home. (I'm trying to seem to be lazy and tired of living... after my parents left, he needed a strong back story) That's precisely what Chris had done; he only got out of bed to use the restroom, shower, or get something to eat. Chris was still feeling miserable after all these years, he virtually unrooted his entire existence.
He had no reason to suffer from his parents' deaths now that they had been avenged, yet he did, and he is still saddened by their loss. And now he wanted to make a comeback and live his life; for this, Chris needed to quit being depressed and move on. Chris had been missing them whenever he was alone; on occasion, he would visit their tomb in France, and his fury would return, and he would go hunting bad supernatural beings.
He misses his father and his obnoxious and annoying attempts to amuse my mother. He missed his mother the most, despite my mothers' smothering nature and he also missed her freshly made cookies. He felt so lost for a long time without them for what seemed like a long time, but he knew in his heart that once they were avenged, it was time to move forward.
Today he finally decided to leave his old life behind and start anew, getting out of his uncomfortable bed and settling into his new life in Forks. And, although being younger than me, I planned to play Charlie Swan younger cousin, whose parents had been slain by that unknown vampire. "Is it weird that I like hearing my inner voice? Like when I was killing those Supernatural's?"
Chris murmured; he chuckled and stood up, "I'm definitely feeling weird." Walking to the bathroom to take a shower, the cold water felt incredibly uncomfortable at the start; I didn't even have space to move around that's how small the shower was. 'Well, at least it's better than that cheap ass hotel I was in before, couldn't even take a decent shower comfortably before.' I thought to myself as I continued showering.
After a while as I dressed, I put on my favorite leather black jacket, the only jacket I had for the moment, with black jeans, black combat boots feeling like a rocker and a cool hair style. After dressing I went to see my reflection in front of a full body mirror that was behind the bedroom door leading to the restroom. Styled my hair back like usual; who am I kidding?
I usually do this when I'm wearing leather, as I ran my fingers through my hair and nod at the mirror in front of me. "That should be good... for now, let the fun begin." Even though my hair was a little unkept and messy, it didn't detract from my remarkable handsomeness, many years of modeling just don't go away you know. I was always mildly... okay slightly attracted to this type of style, which made me even more weirded out.
After getting dressed, I took the key to my motorcycle, and locking the door before leaving my room, intending to check out some of the sights in town today to see if everything went well with meeting Charlie. I've spent the last three days trying to heal from my grief and prepare for my meeting with Charlie. "Ahh..." I said as I stepped out from my home moaning at the sun on my face.
Also, with a slight shiver, a feeling of the cold morning wind blowing on my face as I grumbled somewhat since i wasn't expecting the chilly winds first thing in the morning. After I walked out, I let go of my vengeful inner voice; since then, I've learnt to be grateful for small happy things that happen to my life; one of which was enjoying nature around me and the other driving my new motorcycle.
I adored the new motorcycle I had purchased, not only for its appearance but it's speed as well, a 1997 Honda Valkyrie built by Honda in 1997, and once I got my hands on it I was going to carve many runes schemes on it. I had already prepared the additional rune clusters to make it even better and faster than its predecessor. Even made a few more indestructible rune combinations to make last for centuries to come.
It was labeled as GL1500C in the United States and F6C "Flat Six Custom" in other markets, and I received it on the first day it was released. The Valkyrie engine is a 1,520 cubic centimeters (93 cu in) liquid-cooled, rune carved for durability with runes to keeping the engine always running cool, horizontally opposed flat-six engine shared with Honda's Gold Wing model, and runed clustered to be indestructible.
With a top speed of 1000 mph (1,609 km/h), Power 310.0 horsepower (214.8 kW) (rear wheel), and the torque of 175.5 lb⋅ft (206.7 N⋅m) (rear wheel). The Ignition switch is runed to my aura for high security. The CDI Transmission gearbox is a five-speed manual transmission that is preloaded, customizable, and rune matrixed to ensure that it never becomes unbalanced or tips over.
It has a seating height of 735 mm (28.9 in), and weights 300 kg. It has runes engraved to make it weightless up to 30 kg (660 lb, 12 lb after runed) (dry), 327 kg 30 kg (721 lb 12 lb after runed) (wet). The fuel capacity after on the motorcycle expansion runes were added is 2000 L (228.3 US gallons). The complete weightlessness of the bike only applies to me while I'm on the bike.
When not in motion it stays inert of any weight but cannot be lifted by anyone but me. If anyone else tried lifting it, they would feel the full weight of the motorcycle, which would weight over 2 tons with all that fuel in it. The Valkyrie was available with a reverse gear in Japan, but I think that I need it here in the states.
I had soon approached my beautiful Valkyrie, which was similar to the one I had before; the motorcycle I had previously owned before had been damaged to the extent of saying it was more or less destroyed. I had used it in one of many of my hunting days, of course this one came with a few upgrades and rune improvements.
As I stroked it tenderly, admiring it's contour curves and sat on its centered seat, reminiscing about when my father had taught me how to drive one in the past. I suddenly I felt an ache in my chest, and I was getting very agitated and sad at the same time, remembering what caused my anguish. I backed off slightly, moaning as turn my bike on, pointing my Valkyrie towards the road, and drove towards Charlie's house.
'Vroom', the motorcycle roared as it drove along the road, taking a few glances at the sky lost in contemplation and seeing black clouds appear on the horizon as if it was about to rain. "This is going to be one of those days. Gloomy!!" I remarked to myself in a hushed voice. So I accelerated and began racing towards Charlie's house before the rain fell. When I was a kilometer away from my location, red and blue flashing lights appeared behind me.
'Eeewoo... Eeewoo... Eeewoo' As I peeked at my rear-view mirror, I noticed a police car approaching, signaling me to pull over. "Perfect... first day here and I'm already in trouble." As I slowed down and then pulled over to the side of the road, stopping and turning off my Valkyrie while waiting for the police officer to come approach me.
The officer that approached had an 80's porn-style mustache, wavy curly brown, with chocolate brown eyes. He resembled that one famous looking porn star... what's his name... anyways. He stood at about 6'0" in height and had an average frame build, with dark brown hair. 'Oh... look at that, the person I came to see and here he appears, my little cousin Charlie Swan.' I thought to myself as a sincere smile spread across my face.
"Young man, do you have any idea how fast you were goi... ?" The police officer began speaking, and then abruptly stopped when he suddenly recognized me. But before he could continue, I interjected, as I exclaimed, "Uncle Charlie... is that you?!" I exclaimed in surprise, as I shocked the shocked man, "Well... wait, I knew I recognized you; Chris is that you? What are you doing in Forks? Been a long-time cousin."
Charlie extended his hand out to shake mine. I rose off my bike and off my seated position to hug my long-lost cousin. I knew wasn't lost, but hey... beggars can't be choosers. Afterwards I scratched the back of my head awkwardly, grabbing his hand to shake it. "I'm sorry about that Charlie. I'm new in town and I was headed to your house, but I got a little too thrilled to find you.
So, hence the reason for me speeding, Charlie, sorry again. You know I just arrived in town, and it's my first day out in the open, give me a break Mr. Officer." Trying to make Charlie laugh by teasing him. Charlie raised an eyebrow, attempting not to laugh with me, "First day you say. Chris, where did you bury your parents? Are you planning to see them again? Are you on your own this time? Where's Angela? Or Laura?"
He stared at me and asking a lot of questions that I wasn't going to answer. "They died several years ago, Charlie.! Angela died a few months after my parents were murdered, and Laura just disappeared, leaving no trace of her of what happened. For fuck's sake, did you know they were both murdered!' I wanted to curse aloud; now I had to suffer even more because everyone I knew were all gone.
My drama while getting retribution caused me to forget about the people I cared about; staying single is my only option, that way nobody else disappears for my life. Charlie gave me a thoughtful and sad look before saying, "I'm sorry Chris, I didn't know. Here, why don't you follow me to my place, and we'll chat there." I nodded to his invitation and remounted my bike to follow.
"I'll drive slowly so you can keep up, let's go, I'm not feeling like staying outside." Charlie nodded, returned to his car, and drove to his house with me following behind him. My forehead was drenched in perspiration or was it rain? 'Thinking he didn't believe me for a second there, as I sat on my motorcycle following Charlie to his home. 'I am just an ordinary young man... Why do I have to suffer like this?'
I was so deep in contemplation that I had not noticed we had just arrived in Charlie's driveway. As I got off my bike, I noticed a worn-out red pickup truck outside Charlie's house, which was unmistakably soon to be Bella's truck. But there was no girl in sight; the neighborhood was completely vacant. Did he get the truck ahead of schedule? 'Will her arrival be sooner?'
I thought as I reflected on what the movie had portrayed, then I looked down at my watch looking for the date. I placed my bike near the truck and entered Charlie's house, unaware of the intense gaze directed at him from a distance, I could feel them just a click of three miles away. 'It was not the Cullens. Did someone else follow me? Must ensure Charlie stays safe from what's to come. Tomorrow, I must lay down some wards to protect his house. Now, my life begins a several years before 'Twilight'.
