Crimson Genesis: Vengeance of Genetic Evolution

In a dystopian alternate reality where genetic experimentation has gone wrong, and cybernetic ascension is the new focus, Alex, a high schooler, awakens in a clandestine laboratory only to discover he's been reincarnated as a clone of an ancient, shape-shifting humanoid. Alex attempts to escape captivity, only to be thwarted by his classmates, now cybernetic puppets of the world government organisation “Ascension”, who cruelly shoot Alex in the head despite recognising him. Mysteriously surviving the killing blow, Alex awakens in a wasteyard of the Genesis District, where all failed genetic experiments, derogatorily referred to as the “Flawed”, live in misery and oppression. Enraged by the betrayal of his classmates and the inhumane treatment of the Flawed, Alex sets on a path of vengeance and revolution, unearthing dark secrets about a lost and forgotten past, opposing Ascension, and discovering his evolutionary potential…which may turn out to be more powerful than he could ever imagine… --- Upload Schedule --- Guaranteed Upload: Mon, Wed, Fri *Release timings are not fixed, will vary due to author's real life schedule, might change in the future, depending on reader comments / reviews.

Patient Planning

As the experiments on him continued for the next few days, he began to analyse his surroundings and situation, searching for any possible loopholes or weaknesses to exploit.

First, he started to consider the facility's layout. He had been transported to and from a labyrinth of corridors and chambers daily, and if he could remember a specific route, maybe search for a specific door that the scientists often use to enter and exit, and afterwards improvise later on to find an exit, it would be a vital piece of his plan.

Then, Alex started to think about the facility's security. While the facility was heavily guarded, Alex had noticed occasional lapses in security—moments when the guards were distracted by other tasks. Due to his docile nature, they often let their guard down around him as he was moved from room to room. Recently, they've even stopped using restraints on Alex and started allowing him to walk to their destination with them. Perhaps he could take advantage of those moments to sneak away.

Next, he re-assessed his abilities. His newfound powers of shapeshifting and camouflage offered him a potential means of escape, allowing him to slip past his captors unnoticed. However, he knew that his current abilities alone wouldn't be enough to guarantee his freedom.

As far as he knows, his shapeshifting powers can only alter the shape and size of his limbs to what is available as "matter"; for example, if he reduces his arm size to baby size, his other arm compensates and grows twice as long. Furthermore, the shapes he can shapeshift into now seem always soft in nature. Even seemingly sharp shapes are blunt on the edges. Brute forcing his way out of this place seems more unlikely.

As for his camouflage powers, he could hold his skin's transformation for about one minute or so. Should he start moving, the transformation would begin to be undone, and he would be fully visible. While not exactly the most reliable, it's crucial to remember that he could turn invisible for at least one minute to avoid detection when escaping.

Finally, he considered the motivations of those who held him captive. The experiments often include testing his intellect, which involves talking to the scientists, which means manipulation through communication might be possible. The scientists spoke of Dr. Caesar with reverence, their loyalty unwavering despite his absence. However, he also overheard some scientists disagreeing with how they were conducting experiments on him and how Dr. Caesar hadn't been participating in the research itself, occasionally expressing some form of dissatisfaction. If Alex could somehow exploit their dissatisfaction to their leader, he might be able to sow discord among their ranks and create an opportunity for escape.

With these thoughts swirling in his mind, Alex began to piece together an escape plan. While his heart yearned to search for his friends or confront Dr. Caesar, he understood the necessity of prioritising his immediate freedom.

He realised that escaping from the facility must come first before he could even entertain thoughts of seeking justice or reuniting with his classmates who may or may not be held in the same facility.

He must be patient.

He must wait for the right moment.

Everything else can wait after his escape.

And as if fate was being kind to him, his chance came very soon.
