Chapter 54

After their guide left, both Denise and Cyrus quickly crossed the vegetation bridge. While Denise used her magic to lightly float a few centimeters above the bridge so the thorns wouldn't stab her feet, Cyrus covered his legs with energy, so each time he stepped on a thorn he crushed it completely instead of damaging his feet.

The bridge was a few hundred meters long as it went from the mall to another distant skyscraper while evading various buildings. Even though the mist wasn't very abundant at the height where they were at the moment, it made it pretty difficult to see the grounds of the streets.

As they advanced, from time to time, they spotted a few crimson flowers growing from the vines, which surprised them the first time they saw them, as they made a great contrast with the other parts of the plant. Because of this, Denise insisted on stopping for a few minutes to examine those flowers to try to find out what their function was.

Luckily, they didn't have to wait long before discovering it, as, after a minute or so of studying its characteristics, one of the flowers suddenly opened itself and began to release small amounts of mist.

"So the mist comes from these things." Denise whispered as she rubbed her chin before looking at Cyrus."In normal situations, I would say that we should cut every single one of these things that we find, but I don't think it would make that much difference, so I think it would be much more useful to simply continue with our journey and destroy the pentagram as soon as possible."

"I agree. Let's continue and see what we can find when we reach the next building," Cyrus said as he continued to walk across the bridge.

With that, they continued walking, and in just a few minutes, they were in the new building. As soon as they entered it, they found an enormous room filled with cubicles, desks, chairs, and computers, all of which were severely damaged and broken.

"Ok, so we need to get to the roof, but how are we supposed to get there?" Cyrus asked as he inspected his surroundings, trying to find enemies or some kind of way to get to the superior floors.

"Well, this building seems to have a completely different layout compared to the previous one, so I guess we are going to need to figure out how we are going to get up there," Denise said as she looked around the room too.

For the next few minutes, the two of them searched all around the floor trying to find a way to get to the top of the building, but their searching was suddenly interrupted by a sudden noise.

"I think I have heard something from that direction," Cyrus said as he began to unsheath both of his swords.

"Yes, I heard it too. Let's see what it was. " Denise said as she began to walk toward the source of the sounds.

As they walked there, they found what looked like two metallic sheets in a vertical position, partially embedded into the wall, while there was very little opening between them. When they were in front of it, they continued to hear various noises from behind it.

"Should we try to open it?" Denise asked.

"Of course, we should," Cyrus said smiling as he thrust one of his swords into the opening between the metallic sheets to separate them even more.

While doing this, Denise took from one of her pockets a metallic bracelet with a small green gem and put it on her right arm.

As soon as Cyrus applied a little strength, the two sheets separated themselves, leaving a hole that went all the way to the bottom of the building, as well as to the top, while a metallic cable was hagging in the middle.

But before they were even able to think about using it to climb to the top of the building, two crawlers suddenly appeared through the shaft and immediately jumped towards Cyrus with their arms wide open.

Instinctively, Cyrus retreated a few steps back while he shot forward a few air slashes toward the enemies that had just appeared. As for Denise, she began to concentrate energy on her right hand before suddenly releasing tens of air arrows that passed through the crawlers' bodies and created tons of small wounds around their bodies.

With a quick succession of attacks, the cultivator couple managed to kill the crawlers before they were capable of even getting near them.

"These things are pretty weak. I just hope that the thing that we find at the top can give me a proper fight," Cyrus said as he looked through the hole to see if he could see the top. "I think this thing goes directly to the top, so maybe we can use it to reach the roof in no time if we use this cable."

"Ok, let's try it then," Denise said.

And like that, both of them jumped onto the elevator shaft so they could get to the roof.

Today's second chapter has arrived.

I hope that you liked both of the chapters and that you had a nice day.
