Favour (chapter 20)

That night Jennie had alot of nightmares, everytime she would wake up covered in sweat.She sat on her bed rubbing her belly,she felt naustegic and tired,her phobia had gotten worse,she didn't want to imagine what would have happened if her boss wasn't around.Though everyone said Mr Lucas was cold and indifferent, she knew he had a good heart,that's why he helped her and even drove her home.She felt lucky to have such a kind boss,but what she didn't know was that he was only kind to her.

At country X,Mr Louis sat on the couch in his study room,since Jennie left everything in the house changed,his wife hardly spoke to him,she became sickly and rarely ate.She was taking medication due to high blood pressure,she had begged him to look for their daughter but because of his pride he couldn't.His son wasn't the same,he thought he knew his son but he realised he didn't,all this time he thought his son was the best and could never go against him but he was wrong.After the news of Jennifer being pregnant,they had lost some few contracts,the board members threatened to pull of their stocks.They said he had to retire and let his son take over since his reputation was turnished,they feared they won't be able to secure contracts in the future.He thought they had suggested that because they cared about the company until recently he realised that his son was behind this suggestion for early retirement.He had convinced them to go against his father,it seemed Jacob had shown his hidden claws,he treated Jennie as a threat but since she wasn't around he showed his true colours,he was no longer scared and didn't care how his family thought of him.

He was under alot of pressure, after learning about his son's betrayal he didn't want to hand over his company to him.He felt betrayed and realized how his daughter felt when he kicked him out of the house.He was so concerned about his reputation that he didn't care about his only daughter,Jennie had always been obedient and respectful but what did he do,just because of a mistake he disowned her.He kept on arguing with his son,so much that he moved out,he regretted treating his daughter unfairly,now he didn't even know where she was,if she was fine,if she ate and whether she still had her baby or not.He sighed deeply,he looked at his daughter's photo and caressed it,with a sad look on his face,"I shouldn't have treated you that way" he said.He felt like a failure who couldn't keep his family together,now they were all broken and distanced.

Jennie was in her office working on some files when Mr Lucas called her into his office.There was another man who sat on the couch reading newspapers,"there is something I want you to do" Lucas said Jennie looked at him and nodded."I need you to do me a favour,could you please help me buy new clothes" Jennie was surprised.Why did her boss need her to help him buy clothes,she wondered.Lucas could guess what she was thinking "I need new clothes,I'll soon be traveling and I don't have good clothes,I heard ladies have good fashion sense" he explained.The man seating on the couch looked at Lucas in disbelief and smirked can't he come up with a better excuse,he thought.He felt like laughing,when did his best friend became so stupid he wondered.

"When are you planning to buy the clothes?" she asked,"today after work,please help me not because I'm your boss but as a friend" he said.Though Jennie didn't feel like going,she couldn't refuse,her boss had helped her alot it won't hurt if she helped him buy clothes.Jennie agreed to help him and left,"what was that dude?" asked Chris,"what?" Lucas asked back,"why did you lie that you will be traveling and you don't have clothes"."I didn't lie" he replied, Chris chuckled "Oooh really but I clearly remember that you have alot of clothes which you hardly wear,and since when did you start shopping for clothes?I thought you hated shopping?" Lucas looked at him but didn't reply.It's true he hated shopping,he also had alot of clothes and didn't need new clothes whenever he saw Jennie he became restless and curious ,he was looking for an excuse to be close with Jennie,at office he couldn't because it was work hours and they were both busy,he knew if he asked her to have lunch together she might be unwilling so he came up with the excuse of buying new clothes.

After work hours were over,Lucas drove his expensive car to a clothes store,Jennie sat quietly at the passenger's seat.The air around them was awkward,Lucas decided to put on music to break the tension."What type of clothes do you want to buy?" Jennie asked,"I need casual clothes"he replied.They soon arrived at the clothes store,he parked his car at the store's garage,they both got in.A young lady sat at the counter,when she saw them she smiled warmly and greeted them "hello welcome to our store" Jennie smiled back "hi"."What type of clothes are you looking for?,sir are buying clothes for your wife?" the attendant asked,she had mistook them for a husband and wife."No,he isn't my husband,were looking for male casual clothes" Jennie said awkwardly,Lucas looked at her but didn't say any."Ooh I'm sorry,when I saw you walking together I thought you were a couple,I'm used to seeing couple shop for clothes,that's why I assumed, please accept my apology" she apologized,she looked at Lucas and gulped nervously,he had cold and indifferent expression,she cursed her big mouth for what she had said,she hoped the man wasn't angry because of her mistake."it's okay" Lucas said,the lady sighed in relief "follow me I'll show you the clothes you're looking for" she said and led them to the far corner of the store.There were alot of casual clothes, t-shirt,jeans, sweatshirt and many more.

"Here they are,this is the fitting room,you can try some of the clothes and pick the ones that fits you well" she said and excused herself.Jennie picked a few jeans and t-shirts and gave him to try on,they shopped for a whole hour, whenever Lucas wore a clothe that Jennie didn't like it,he went and changed to another one.Sometimes they joked about the clothes,they were having fun.Lucas was in the fitting room,Jennie stood up and headed to the other side of the store.The clothes were very beautiful and well made,she caressed her tummy lovingly,she decided to visit the store later once she gives birth to buy clothes for herself,the ladies clothes were truly beautiful."Did you find any clothes to your liking?" Lucas asked, Jennie was startled she turned around,Lucas wore a blue jeans with a white sweatshirt,he looked handsome and breathtaking.Even Jennie admitted he looked handsome,"you look good" she said,"thanks,you can also pick some clothes for yourself don't worry I'll pay" he said.Jennie smiled "no thanks I don't need new clothes" she said,Lucas was disappointed but didn't give up."If you don't want clothes then can I buy you diner as a thank you for helping me" he said,"don't worry,you don't have to,I'm fine,I'm just glad that I helped you" she said.Lucas shook his head "no you can't refuse,you have helped me alot allow me to buy you diner for all the troubles" he insisted,"okay then" she said finally giving in,it was hard to refuse your boss especially if he is so handsome and stubborn.
