28 Chapter twenty-eight: Surprised call

Rian's POV:

It's our lunchtime at work, me and Gavin sitting in our favorite spot in the building's cafeteria.

Jenny is not with us because her boyfriend 'Nick' picked her up for their lunch date today.

How sweet right?

"Honey, may I remind you... we're going yo meet my cousin tomorrow night. We're also going to visit his friend and the dance studio."

Gavin said once we were seated.

"Uhm... okay." I said nodding

"Wait, had you already informed your husband regarding this competition? And that.... I will be your partner?"

"Oh shit!" my eyes widened and I bite my bottom lip.

"Don't tell me you forgot?"

"Yes?" I hesitantly answered.

"Huh! Good luck my dear." he said in a teasing tone.

"I hate you." I playfully narrowed my eyes on him. But he just laughed at me.

How would I suppose to tell him?

And speaking of him--- it's as if knowing that we're talking about him... when my phone rings and his name flashes on the screen.

I looked at Gavin.

"You should tell him, honey. And one thing.. that you're working here."

I didn't say anything. I swiped the screen and answer his call.

"Hi." my heart is pounding inside my chest. Alex's effect on me is still overwhelming.

"Hi, baby. How are you?"

I take a deep breath to control my smile and the so much excitement that dancing inside mu stomach.

"Uhm... I'm fine. Eating lunch. How about you, hed you eat your lunch?" I asked calm but my smile body shows otherwise... it's bouncing with happiness. When I looked back at Gavin, he kist rolled his eyes.

"Yup, actually I'm in a lunch meeting today with the men you saw in my office the last time."

"I see. Is Ms. Thomas with you?"

"Yes, she's here and she actually listening to me."

"What?" my eyebrow crunched as I heard him chuckled. "Are you in a loudspeaker?"

"No. But I told you we're in a lunch meeting and we are currently sitting across each other."

"How many are you there?"

"Six."

"Including Ms. Thomas?"

"Yup. And they were all listening to me right now."

My eyes widened again.

"Oh my God, Alexander! Why do you always call when you're in the middle of your meetings?" I snapped not-so-annoyed. But my husband loves to tease me.

"Oh baby, I would rather call you in the middle of our meeting than to call you in the middle of our 'something'."

Even though I cannot see him, my face color changed in a shade of deep red, because of his naughty joke... especially when his secretary at business partners are just in front of him.

"Argh! You're such a pervert, Alexander Jonathan!" I gripped the phone hard when he just laughed at me and even affected.

"Baby, how I wished I am at your side right now to see your blush." he said still laughing.

-'And how I wished I am also at your side right now to vanish your laugh and kiss the hell out of you'-

I mentally told myself.

"Actually baby, I just called you because I really missed you." my thoughts stopped after hearing his little confession. And a smile formed again on my lips.

"Well, I miss you too, Mr. Smith."

"Ohh, I miss that Mrs. Smith. By the way, I'll have to end this. I'll call you later, baby. Eat well, okay?"

"I will. Bye."

"Bye."

Then we ended the call while a smile never fades on my face.

"Wow, teenagers?" Gavin started to tease me again.

But I just rolled my eyes and think of something to tease him back.

"You won't understand honey, because you don't have a love life." I smirked and raised my eyebrow.

"Ouch! Thank you for adding salt in my injured heart. I really appreciate it."

And I can't help but to laugh at him.

We finished our lunch on time and headed back to our work again.

Tonight, I am planning to tell Alex about the thanksgiving party of the company and the competition which I and Gavin were going to partners, including my work in Gavin's company.

Alex's POV:

A smile never leaves from my lips since after lunch. I planned on picking up my wife to where she's working at, but I didn't inform her. I also wanted to surprise her.

After parking my car at the parking space in front of the building, I went to the reception area. It's already 4:45 pm and she will be out at exactly 5:00 o'clock.

There's a woman in her mid-twenties with a cake on her face. I mean, a thick layer of eyeshadows, super thick blush on and with a shiny red lipstick.

"Good afternoon, Sir. How may I help you today?" she asked batting her lashes and I restrained myself from raising my eyebrow.

"I'm actually looking for Mrs. Rian Smith." I said smiling.

But she looked at me with a furrowed eyebrows.

"Excuse me, Sir. Did I heard you right--- you said Mrs. Rian Smith?" she asked mentioning my wife's name with emphasis. As if she can't believe what I have said.

"Yes, you heard it right. Mrs. Rian Smith. Arrianna Angela Smith." I repeat in my authoritative voice making sure she got even Rian's full name.

But like her reaction a while ago, her knitted in confusion and she didn't even flinch.

"What is her job title, Sir?"

"Editor in chief." I answered annoyed.

"Ohh... for a while Sir." she excused herself, dialling some numbers on the telephone.

What is wrong with this receptionist? I swear, if she's working at me, she'd fired the moment she asked me as if I am joking.

Then there's a guard who came beside me.

"Good afternoon, Sir. Is everything okay?" he asked politely.

"Yes. I'm just looking for my wife."

"May I know what's your wife's name, Sir?"

"Rian. Rian Smith." I didn't miss how he was taken aback by my answer. But then he laughed and asked me again.

"You mean to say, Sir... Ms. Rian Smith of editor's department?"

"Yes. That she is, but she's no longer a Miss.. she's my wife."

He and the receptionist crunched their eyebrows and shared a look before he turned to me again.

"With all due respect, Sir. But I think you're maybe mistaken by where your wife works. Yes, we have Rian Smith that working in this building but she's still single."

"Exactly what I want to tell him." the receptionist said and take a sigh.

"What are you talking about? I am not mistaken here! Rian Smith is my wife!" I couldn't help myself and I snapped at the both of them.

They both gasped and looked at me with wide eyes.

"I'm sorry Sir, but as we all know, Ms. Smith is still single. And we haven't heard that she's being married. And for sure the management will bring down the notice if it's happened."

It's my time to furrowed my eyebrows. "What do you mean, your company will bring down a memo of she got married?"

"She and the son's boss, we all thought that they're in a relationship."

"Are you sure that we're still talking the same person here?" I am starting to get annoyed.

"Yes, Sir. Ms. Rian Smith of editor's department and the boss's son, Sir Gavin Montero."

Hearing that name makes all my blood ran boiled.

"What dis you say?" their eyes widened afraid. "Gavin is also working here? What exactly his position is?" I asked my voice laced with venom.

"H-He's also an editor in chief Sir. A-And Ms. Smith team leader." the guard said stuttering seeing the seriousness and anger in my eyes.

"So, she's working with him. They were together every day!" I just muttered to myself but the receptionist loves to end her life.

"Yea Sir. They were working together every day."

I turned to her with narrowed eyes. She gasped as I banged my fist on the counter in front of them.
