Woke Up

A groaning sound interrupted the conversation between the two doctors and the nurse.

The head doctor immediately rushed to Zade, "Why is he also having a panic attack?"

He wondered.

Unknown to him, both Vivian and Zade were dreaming of the worst incident of their life.

The incident changed their lives along with their families too.

The junior doctor assisted his senior. The nurse noted down the heart rate fluxes of Zade.

"Get me a sedative right now." The nurse quickly gave a tranquilizer injection to the doctor.

The junior doctor who had suffered the anger of Warners, couldn't help from asking his senior.

"Sir, what if his parents get angry with us for using a sedative on him? They are already close to losing their sanity and when they find out this. I am sure they would be more mad at us." He let out all his concerns to his senior.

The head doctor merely sighed at his startled junior, "Don't worry. They won't kill you or me. This person lying here is their only son. And they are his parents. No matter how old, strong, powerful, or big you become, your parents would always be worried sick for your well-being.

And currently, their son is unconscious. They are worried, anxious, and mostly terrified. Their anger wasn't on you."

He paused and patted his junior on the shoulders.

"Also, you are a doctor by now you should be used to these outbursting reactions of the families. No one wants to lose their loved ones."

"Sir, here is a detailed report of the patient's vitals and his heart rate fluxes time stamps." The nurse handed over the reports.

"Hmm, his vitals are back to normal again. He will also wake up in a few hours. Let's go and inform his parents. Nurse, you stay here and monitor the patient."

The head doctor told the nurse.

The nurse nodded her head and replied positively.

They walked out of the room and the head doctor first, followed by his junior.

"Doc, how is my son? When will he wake up?" Chloe asked.

If possible she would have rushed to the doctor and would be shaking his shoulders by now.

That was how edgy she was feeling.

After getting no answer from the doctor, her heartbeat went erratic. Suddenly, she started to have all the worst scenarios in her mind.

Feeling the unexpected shivers from his wife, Kevin had to speak.

"Are you mute? Why aren't you replying? When will our son open his eyes and how is he?" Kevin spoke everything in one breath. His voice filled with chillness.

"Hmm.." The head doctor tried to respond.

"Dr. Lucy, I want an answer, a clear one. I'm not going to ask or say this again." Kevin enunciated.

He put extra emphasis on her name.

Lucy knew she had to deal with the matter with utmost care.

While the junior doctor almost cheered for his senior. Witnessing how she stood calm and collected. Unlike him, who was a mess, fiddling and squirming.

'Our head doctor, Lucy, is indeed a strong lady. I want to be like her later on. I'll work extra hard now.' He sincerely wished.

"Mrs. Warner, I request you to please stay strong. I have diagnosed your son and found out that his body is healing. Though he had an anxiety attack. But, he is alright now.

I had to use a sedative to put him back to sleep. He will most probably wake up in the next 5 hours. So, be strong for your son."

Dr. Lucy slowly and carefully explained Zade's current condition. She was well aware that she had to be cautious.

She sighed and rubbed her forehead. She could feel a wave of headache attacking her.

'Argh… I need to take my meds. This headache. God…'

"Thank you so much, Dr. Lucy!!" The absent minded doctor felt herself engulfed in a tight hug.

Chloe's light sobbing didn't cease as she hugged Lucy. Her emotions were all over the place. Overwhelmed by her emotions, she embraced Lucy.

She didn't let go of Lucy till she stopped sobbing.

She held onto Lucy's hands, "Thank you so much for saving my son's life. We will be forever indebted to you."

Chloe kept thanking Lucy. "You don't need to thank us, Mrs. Warner. It's our job to save the lives of every human being as a doctor. What I did was simply my job. Now, if you don't mind, I have to take my leave."

Chloe left the doctor's hand. Kevin wrapped his arm around his wife. Together they expressed their gratitude again.

"Please, don't thank me. It's our job." Lucy replied and left from there after ensuring the couple about their son and his health.

"Dr. Steve, please stay on standby. And inform me when the patient wakes up." Lucy instructed her junior.

"Yes, doctor," Steve responded.

Before leaving, Lucy reminded the couple, "If you have any queries left, my junior will surely help you with it."

At last, she left, and now the remaining three people stayed quiet until the nurse came out.

"Doctor, I have changed his bandages and also glucose drip" The nurse informed Steve.

She noticed how the previously dangerous and deadly atmosphere had vanished.

Both the couple and Dr. Steve seemed to be better than earlier.

'That's a relief. I was so afraid. I thought I had to breathe in that perilous environment.'

The young nurse couldn't be any more grateful.

"Ummm….Now you can relax. The patient's condition is all under control and I would also be monitoring him closely." Steve endeavoured to alleviate Zade's parent's concerns.

Steve took a look at his watch, "Oh shoot, I need to go for a routine checkup of the patients. I'll have to take my leave."

Just when he was about to walk past them, "I'm sorry. I sincerely apologise for my unruly behaviour. I wasn't thinking from the right state of my mind. I hope you will forgive me. Dr. Steve, I'm really grateful to you as well."

Chloe apologised and Steve was left wondering what happened.

He didn't know how to respond to such an unforeseen apology so he did what he could.

He nodded his head and Chloe let out a small smile.

Kevin pulled his hug into another hug.

"Shh… Now don't cry. When your baby wakes up and sees your red eyes, he would undoubtedly blame me for not taking care of you." Kevin said, running his hands through her hair.

The nurse had also fled off with Steve so the couple was all alone.

They tried to give support to each other.

Three hours later….

A pair of eyes quivered, and slowly they opened.

Due to the bright light, the eyes shut off again.

'Where am I?' This thought engulfed the person.

The person made an effort to unfurl their eyes once more, this time a beautifully stunning pair of hazel eyes stared at the white ceiling.

"Viv, you woke up!"
