CONTINGENCY

PREVIEW: "I would back up if I were you...as to not ruin that pretty little night gown", I warned while the barrel of my pistol looked down at her husband's head. She glanced at me and fearfully looked down at her naked feet. "Now which one of you hit Max?" They remained silent and that pissed me off even more. "Since everyone appears to be mute and useless, I might as well kill you both; pick who goes first or I will." I quickly pulled out my knife and threw it towards the woman using my left hand; it missed her head by a mere two inches. From where I stood, I could almost taste the fear that radiated from her. "Now that I've demonstrated my seriousness, I expect some answers in a timely manner." I was very rational when need be. "I...I didn't mean to hit hi-", Darrel began, But I had already made my choice; therefore he was useless to me and regardless of how he would plead for his life, one of us wasn't going to make it out alive. "Well that's a nice sentiment but you won't be around to touch any one anymore, not even that beautiful wife of yours". An evil smirk plastered on my face. Without restraint I pulled the trigger, the weapon adjusted in my hand. Power coursed through my veins as I felt no remorse as usual. Specks of blood covered my face and shirt. Witnessing the assassination of her husband, the wife began to weep; "you'll pay for this", she whispered through gritted teeth. SUMMARY: Zena Carter has always been a troubled soul. RICOCHET

A day had passed, Nolan had already checked all of our databases and it seemed as if all of the Abawi documents had been cleared out. 'David must be up to something big'. He was the only one with the authority to make changes to our files.

"Zena I have a lead for you, it might not be much but it might be good to check the place out", Nolan suggested through the ear piece.

I sat on the the hood of a black jeep and sharpened my knives after an altercation with some thugs. These guys were getting much more resourceful in their methods of finding me and I could only thank my ex-boss, David for that. My best choice in escaping and keeping a low profile was to switch cars, steal some license plates, and stay off of the main road ways.

Last night I even had to do some breaking and entering in a junkyard, so I could keep the car hidden.

"Nolan I'm gonna need you to find me a way out of here without getting noticed. Is there a BOLO out on me or something?" I can't seem to get a break. "I don't think the guys from last night were all Abawi's men", I questioned, as I looked at the badge I snatched off of one of the men who tried to run me off the road earlier.

"Well I didn't want to freak you out just yet, but I'm handling it. Just keep your head down for the next twenty four hours." Nolan's voice sounded distant, I could only assume that he was working on finding me an exit.

"Alright then what do you have for me?" I asked.

"I've been trying to pinpoint where and how the Abawi were freely transporting and selling illegal weapons across state lines without a ping from law enforcement. Turns out they have a shipment due to enter tonight, I hear that they're meeting by the harbor. It might give you some time to checkout their main offices."

I checked the time and agreed, "I'm on my way".

Parking behind the main building, I felt sick to my stomach. Something didn't feel right. I decided to send Jeremy a text asking him to keep a very close eye on Max.

Once I managed to sneak into the building, checked my silencer and placed my pistols in their holsters. I strategically took out the guards without setting off the alarms. I made it to the main office, locked the door, placed my wires and connected Nolan to the cameras.

"Zee, you're clear for now but hurry before the others spot the guards you took out."

"Nolan just work your magic for about five minutes and I'll be out. I installed your program and the drive is in place, take control of this thing already. I'll take care of the rest."

As soon as I was cleared to leave I discreetly moved through the building, clearing out my path to the exit. There were armed guards walking around and standing at their posts.

"Hey you stop right there!"

I turned around quickly, and allowed one of my knives to pierce through him. I had to remain as quiet as possible, the noise would attract unwanted attention. Since he was alone, I dragged him as far as I can and locked him in an empty room that held cleaning supplies.

Browsing the full shelves, I found some reactive chemicals that could cause some damage if mixed properly.

"Zena if you can find a way to slow the elevator down, we'll have enough time for the documents to scan and I'll delete the files as they upload to my server. We need a diversion".

I glanced at the solutions and said, "It might be louder than expected but I have an idea".

Before mixing the solutions, I pressed the number four then the button to close the doors and quickly threw the mixture in the small gap as the doors connected. Although the reaction took a some time, it wasn't long before the fire alarms went off along with an incredibly loud crashing sound.

I moved back and realised that there were large windows on the sides of the building that overlooked the city.

I checked my belt and made sure that the metal chords would work when I needed them, otherwise I would end up splattered on the ground. Nolan had gifted me some customized bungee cords that were placed on the sides of my belt in case I needed to leap off of a building.

Angling my body I pressed on both sides and released the metal cords; the spikes attached themselves to the ceiling. I tugged on the cord and took off running as the alarms blared throughout the building.

Quickly, I ran to the window while pulling the trigger several times to weaken the glass. I used my side to break the window as I shielded my face. The cord extended and I fell towards to the floor below me.

The only downside to this gadget was that it was quite short.

I weakened the window to the second floor and kicked my way into the building.

The spikes detached from the ceiling and recoiled back to my belt as I landed on the second floor.

"...My...my you've caused quite the commotion", a slim brunette sneered at me.

She pointed her weapon at me and walked closer. "Pitch it over here", she gestured to the pistol in my hand.

I tossed it at her feet and pressed the side of my belt; once again the metal cord flew out and the spike pierced her chest. I pushed the button for the device recoil back into the belt as the woman fell to her knees, gasping for air.

Her weapon fell on the floor and blood rushed to her mouth. I reached out to her, grabbing her neck, "you made a mistake darlin'...I don't like taking orders". I pushed her so that she fell on her side.

"Poor girl", I whispered.

"Zena I've got the files", Nolan spoke through the earpiece. I began following his instructions to exit the building.

"Trouble up ahead, I count about five. Take them out and turn to your left, make a run for it towards the stairs".

I did as I was told and ended up behind the building.

The sound of bullets ricocheted off the walls. I felt a stinging pain through my arm and quickly ducked.

"ZEE ARE YOU OK?"

I grunted from the pain, took off my jacket and wrapped it tightly around my arm.

" A little warning would have been nice", I chuckled. I stayed down as bullets flew off of the walls and passed me.

After waiting for the guards to stop shooting, I moved to shoot back. When I stepped out, they were already on the ground groaning in pain.

"..."

"Right on time...now go go go", Nolan screamed.

'Who the hell did that?' I wondered.
