Chapter 45 - Memories II: Betrayal

"Damn!" He angrily yelled and slashed strongly at the humans in front of him.

'I don't have time! I need to save her!!' He screamed inside his head as he spurred the horse.

"Neigh.....!" The horse neighed and raised its front feet up.

Avery balanced himself as the horse rushed forward to crush the enemy in its path.

As the horse crushed the humans, Avery helped as he pushed and killed the enemy blocking him.

After a tough struggle, he was finally able to get out of the field and continued to rush towards the palace where Yue was currently at.

Avery then took out the arrow that was lodged in his shoulder and quickly circulated a minuscule amount of mana, to stop the bleeding.

As he was circulating the mana, Avery then thought of what had led to the current situation.

'If I knew this would have happened, I would have never taken that stupid item!'

It all started when Avery and Yue found a [Black] grade item. It was surreal since it was only one grade below the strongest known grade to them [Rainbow].

It was also important to note that the Ascended World only had items up to the [Orange] grade. [Red], [Blac], and [Rainbow] could only be found in the Ascended Universe.

Knowing the danger and trouble that would come to them, Avery and Yue decided to seal any information regarding it. Plus the item they had was not even a weapon or anything useful. It was simply a key to some ruin outside the Ascended World.

Only Avery, Yue, and Tristan knew of its existence since they were the only ones who went into the dungeon and found the item.

So Avery and Yue were shocked when someone had attacked them for the item during one of their joint expedition together.

They did not know how the news of them possessing a [Black] grade item was leaked since they were very careful with information regarding it.

They did not doubt Tristan since he owed them his life and he was particularly extreme on returning the favor by swearing his loyalty to them. Tristan proved it by helping them in countless expeditions and wars despite casualties and consequences.

Thinking of Tristan, Avery as he sped past the road towards the palace clenched his hands tightly as a great amount of anger rose from the depths of his heart.

"Tristan? Who is he? And why does big brother hate him so much? Did he not say that he was loyal?"

"Wait…" Yue thought with understanding as she nodded her head.

'Tristan!! I swear I'll make you pay if something happened to my sister!'

Tristan had betrayed them by leaking information.

Avery thought he was so stupid to have been fooled by that two-faced bastard. Though it was not entirely his fault as Tristan was using a [Purple] grade item that allowed him to have impeccable acting.

Using the item, he acted as a kind, good-natured middle-aged man who helped them through tough times.

They had found him injured with his escorts all dead in the forest, they had asked him the reason on why he was attacked. Tristan simply glossed over it and purposely showed fear and trauma in his expression using his [Purple] grade item.

Both Yue and Avery did not know that he was acting.

And so seeing his state of fear and trauma they had decided to not go deeper since it was not good to remind him of such things. The enemies were dead anyway from what they had seen.

In truth, the assassination attempt on Tristan that led him into that situation was due to the revenge of one of Tristan's victims. Tristan loved collecting women and keeping them as sex slaves. Using the item he got, he was able to trick and fool a lot of girls into becoming his sex slave. With it, he was able to successfully establish a prosperous prostitution business.

The husband of one of Tristan's victims discovered what had happened to his wife and swore to kill Tristan. And so on one of Tristan's expeditions, the husband of his victim decided to act.

And at the cost of their life, he along with his team were able to kill all escorts and dealt a major wound that would kill Tristan if left unattended.

He was supposed to die in the middle of the forest, but he was lucky since Avery and Yue had found him, where he was saved after some acting he did.

Ever since he had laid his eyes on Yue, he knew that he would do anything to get Yue to become his sex slave.

He gained their trust by swearing his loyalty and proved it by helping them in numerous wars to the point that he had great casualties in his army.

He then had tried to subtly seduce Yue countless times, but she was so persistent and never even spared him a glance as she had someone she already loved with all her being.

Seeing that it was not working, he had tried to find other ways, he knew he can't use force since they were stronger, both their personal strength-wise and military-wise. He would have died if he ever attempted something forceful, the only way he was not discovered or dispatched was due to the help of his [Purple] grade item.

Then they stumbled into a dungeon that rewarded them with a [Black] grade item. He did not know what it does since Avery never revealed it, he only knew that it was [Black] grade.

Seeing this, he knew that he had found his opportunity.

And so he decided to take the opportunity and finally get Yue to become his.

Memory II arc had been quite long, but don't worry since it is going to end next week.

A BIT OF SPOILER: There is going to be one or two arcs after the Memory II arc, then we'll have the final memory arc: Memory III. That's going to be the last and the most important one since it would be a major catalyst in Avery and Yue's relationship.
