Hunting

In the forest south of the village, Avery and Yue could be seen traversing through the thick foliage of vegetation.

They talked and chatted happily with one another as they walked. Their talk then went to things about magic, specifically its uses and applications.

"...Ohh so we could use mana to sense our surroundings?"

"Yes" Avery replied.

"Hmm.. is it the same thing that bats use? I think it's called echolocation where they use sound to sense the surroundings. I remember that they emit sound waves and that sound bounces off an object, returning an echo which gives them information about its size and location."

"Nn." Avery nods and continues. "But instead of using sound waves, we use mana."

"But mana does not bounce back so how would we perceive the inf… Wait."

Avery smiles seeing that she understood already. He liked the way she was immediately able to figure things out with just little information.

'It might not even be a surprise if she knew that something happened for me to know all this info about magic and the Ascended Universe.'

'I think I need to come clean to her sooner or later. If I can't even trust my cute little sister then what kind of big brother am I?'

Thinking of those he decided to tell her everything after they wake up and return to the real world. He might even conf...

"If we use the mana stored inside us then perceiving the info might not be that hard since the mana inside us is connected to us in the first place." Yue said.

"How about you give it a try Little Yue."

"Ok!"

They then stopped walking as Yue closed her eyes to focus. She then released mana to her surroundings.

When she released the mana, Avery could sense and feel something pass through him.

She could immediately sense the surroundings when the mana hits an object, though she could not see the details as it required more focus and training.

Looking from above you could see an invisible ring of mana slowly expanding with Yue as the center when she first released it.

The mana goes further and further until it dissipates due to the mana running out.

Feeling that the mana ran out, Yue slowly opened her eyes and looked at Avery.

"I did it, Big brother!"

"You did great considering it's your first time utilizing mana like that."

"Though, when you released your mana, I was able to sense that you were scanning the surroundings when your mana passed through me. That would alert the enemy if you were to use it in searching for them." Avery continued.

"Here I'll do it while you try to sense my mana."

Avery then proceeds to send his mana to the surroundings. The mana he sent was incredibly thin which made it incredibly difficult to sense if you do not have high perception.

The action required precise control over his mana as thinning it out further would make it impossible to remain connected to the mana, which makes it impossible to perceive the info.

This showed just how high his control over mana was as he was able to make it incredibly thin, just right for his connection to his mana to not disappear.

As this was happening, Yue tried to sense his mana but was not successful as her perception was not high enough.

"Did you send your mana already, Big brother?" Yue asked with a confused look.

"Yes, I just sent them moments ago." Avery said with a smile on his face

"You sent it already?" Yue said with a surprised look.

"Yes."

"You could try thinning out the mana you send to the surrounding area." Avery advised.

After he said those and gave a few more pieces of advice. Yue then gave it a try.

She was able to successfully thin out the mana, though not as thin as Avery.

"How was it, Big brother?"

"Excellent. You only need a few more practices before mastering it."

"Anyway, let's go back to hunting. I sensed some animals just a few distances away."

They then walked towards the direction of the animal he sensed.

After a few minutes of walking, Avery saw the footsteps of a deer. The footprints that were carved into the ground looked brand new.

He observed it for a few seconds and concluded. 'It just passed by here a little while ago so the deer should not be that far.'

After a minute of walking they could finally see a deer fifty meters away.

They then hid in the bush nearby as Avery pulled out an arrow from the small amount of arrows that he carried by his waist.

He latched the arrow on the bowstring and slowly drew the string. As he drew, Avery controlled his mana and coated the tip of the wooden arrow with it. He then minisculely controlled the mana to increase the sharpness of the arrow.

What resulted was a wooden arrow with its tip coated with translucent mana. Its sharpness was evident just by looking at the sheen of its tip.

He then heard a notification from the system.

He ignored the notification and focused on what he was doing.

By the time he finished enhancing the arrow. The bowstring was fully drawn and was ready to be released.

He then adjusted his aim and released the arrow.

The prey was still not aware of the situation as it was just leisurely eating the grass on the ground.

The arrow cuts through the air as it flies toward the deer in a straight line.

The deer moved its head when it noticed the airy sound, but it was already too late. The arrow had accurately hit the side of its head.

The deer then falls to the ground with a thud as blood flows out of its head.

Avery and Yue then came out of their hiding to take a closer look. Both were not disturbed by the sight of blood as they were trained by their parents when they were young.

Even though Yue looked pure and innocent, she was also put through the same training. Though she had lots of difficulties with the training their family put them through, luckily her Big brother was there to support her.

Their family is not all that pure in itself. Although their family did not participate in human-trafficking and illegal drugs, they still dabbled in illegal information gathering and assassinations in order to protect their family from competitors.

This was also one of the reasons why they were targeted by the other major families in their country.

Going back. Avery then went to the corpse to inspect it. After making sure that everything is fine, he then casts a weight magic on the carcass in order to decrease its weight.

After that he casts [Levitation] magic towards it. He needed to decrease the weight first as the mana consumption of the spell [Levitation] is dependent on the weight of the object the person is trying to levitate.

After casting [Levitation], the carcass of the deer starts to float.

"Wow! Is that a new spell, Big brother?"

"Yes, it's called [Weight Magic] and [Levitation]."

"Can you teach me this magic."

"Of course, anything for my cute little sister."

"Yay! Thank you, Big brother!"

After that, they start to walk back to the village. Along the way Avery and Yue found another deer. Thinking that it would be a waste to let it go especially since it was already delivered to them, Avery then decided to hunt it.

Doing the same process a while ago, Avery successfully killed the deer. He then casts [Weight Magic] and [Levitation] on the dead body.

After the fruitful encounter, the siblings start to continue their walk back to the village as Avery taught Yue the two spells he casted.
