"Boss Ren, what should we do? The bridge is broken." Fu Yangzhu said with worry but he did not slow down the speed of the Marauder.
"I'll make a platform. Drive on ahead." Lu Jingren told him, gripping the door of the Marauder.
Their group was slowly approaching the broken bridge while the horde of rodents was still chasing them. The river wasn't shallow and was actually pretty deep. Lilian Mo didn't have any good memories in the water but if they could get on the other side, then that would ensure their safety.
And if the rodents fell on the water, that would be even better.
Lu Jingren stopped producing the ice arrows. He opened the door and leveled his hand just above the ground. A beam of blue light struck out. A platform made of ice a few meters away was created before their very eyes, ensuring that they could get on the other side.
"Little Rei, I'm going to speed towards the platform. I need your help!" Fu Yangzhu said. The Marauder was fast but it was still heavy. He needed Mizuki Rei's help to alleviate the burden from the Marauder's weight or their momentum from crossing would decrease.
"I heard you!" Mizuki Rei answered. "Lilian Mo, I'll leave it to you!"
Lilian Mo didn't answer but she understood and covered for him, blasting the rodents that tried to jump them.
The wind began to surround the Marauder while Fu Yangzhu shouted at them to brace themselves.
He stepped on the accelerator and drove fast, driving on the ice platform to cross the other side of the bridge.
Mizuki Rei stiffened as he used his wind ability to make the Marauder much lighter using the help of the wind but he did not expect that it was heavier than he expected! He was only at Level two and he had almost exhausted his ability!
"Damn, damn." He cursed, beads of sweat forming on his pale face.
Lilian Mo noticed this. She positioned her arms below and blasted fire below them to increase their momentum. With her help, they narrowly landed on the other side in one piece. Lu Jingren dispersed the ice platform before the rodents could use them. Some of them fell on the water and they never resurfaced.
Only their dark blood did.
Lilian Mo stared hard at this scene and saw a shadow moving rapidly in the water before disappearing.
The horde turned away and changed direction, looking fearful of the waters.
Mizuki Rei collapsed on the rooftop, thoroughly exhausted. She grabbed his collar before he could fall off, using her other hand to grip tightly on the edge of the roof.
The others heaved a sigh of relief after escaping their pursuers. They were safe on this side.
They stopped for a while and leaned on their seats, a bit shaken up from what they experienced.
Lilian Mo dumped Mizuki Rei on the road, jumping down on the ground. She dusted her hands off and looked at the people inside.
"Is anyone injured?" She asked but her gaze was actually on the girls, Zhang Youji included.
Mizuki Rei who was groaning on the road for being dumped roughly would have probably made a face if he saw this because Lilian Mo was being biased again after using him.
"Sister-in-law, everyone is safe. Thanks to you and Little Rei, we got here safely." Fu Yangzhu said. Although he was only driving, God knows just how nervous he was while he was gripping the steering wheel. He wiped his sweaty palms on his pants.
Mu Qianmo got out of the car and stared at the deep murky river.
He was silent for a while before he turned to Lilian Mo.
"Little sister Mo, do you know what is in the water?"
This question attracted the others' curiosity and they turned to her with expectant gazes since Lilian Mo has shown that she was knowledgeable about many things.
"Mutants. More mutants." She told them. She did not show the fear she felt when she looked at the water.
Instead, she shook her head and got inside the Marauder. "Drive, we need to get out of here. Find a safe place where we can rest. We are vulnerable out in the open. Everyone is too exhausted to fight."
No one refused. Indeed, they did not have time to celebrate their escape. Mizuki Rei and Mu Qianmo both got in the car while Fu Yangzhu started to drive again.
"Lilian." Lu Jingren whispered, making Lilian Mo feel tensed.
"Are you tired?"
She looked at him. She did not realize that she got in the same seat as him.
"Everyone is tired," was her answer before turning away from him.
"I am also tired." She heard him say in a low voice that only she could hear.
"Then rest." Lilian Mo told him, keeping her words short.
The team decided to look for a hotel or a house to stay in. Either way, as long as they could find a place to stay for the night, they were satisfied. Everyone was exhausted.
