83 Old Man

Lu Jingren crouched down infront of the child, he was still suffering from facial paralysis, and yet the words he said next sounded soft and comforting to the ears.

"Do you need help?"

Lilian Mo and the others looked at Lu Jingren with surprise in their eyes.

What was the Boss doing? The three boys thought as they looked at the Boss with a strange look in their eyes. The Boss hated children the most so what was up with this out-of-character move?

Even Lilian Mo was feeling doubtful at Lu Jingren's actions. This man hated little kids so much that he always turned his nose up everytime he saw one. But what was Lu Jingren doing right now? Why was he crouching down and talking to the child...

Most of all, why did it have to be Zhang Youji of all people?

But, after seeing him step forward, Lilian Mo was a little ashamed of herself. If even Lu Jingren who was known for his ruthlessness was going to offer his help to Zhang Youji, then what did that make her? A coward, no doubt.

She was afraid due to the knowledge from her previous life but in order to do better and live better, to survive in the apocalypse, would discarding the people she had a past enmity be the best decision?

It did not seem like it.

She also once questioned Sister Xi and opposed the so-called 'King's way' because she did not want to lose her humanity.

If she wanted to save someone who was still redeemable, she was strong enough to do so. If she wanted to make someone suffer, then she could simply break their bones, shave their heads, and cut their tongue off. Make them live a life worse than death!

Zhang Youji's eyes widened slightly as he breathed in and out, still exhausted from running. He was almost as thin as a stick so his stamina was very low. He was very malnourished and underweight which was probably due to the harsh conditions brought by the apocalypse.

A child surviving alone in this kind of environment was really hard.

"Big brother, I need your help... My f..friends are in trouble. Please save them! I'll give this to you!" Zhang Youji extended his hand with a crystal core. "There are twenty more in our stash. If you follow me and help my friend... We'll give the rest to you so please... Big brother.." Zhang Youji said shakily as he looked at Lu Jingren with desperation.

Lu Jingren tilted his head, unbothered by the child's pleading. He leaned closer, his nose sniffing the child slightly before he pulled away and stood up.

Zhang Youji held his breath out of nervousness. The handsome big brother was staring at him without any hint of expression and he was acting as if he found out a big secret. This made Zhang Youji uneasy inside.

Don't tell me the handsome big brother found out? Did he perhaps smell the blood on his body?

'But I went to wash just like what Mom said..' Zhang Youji said with a gloomy expression as his mind concocted all sorts of things and wondered what had gone wrong.

At this time, Min Mingye had caught up.

"Hey, kid! Didn't I say that my group would help you? Why are you handing the job over to some random strangers when you've already made the deal with my group!" Min Mingye shouted as he looked at Lu Jingren accusingly. However, the man had forgotten that he had an argument with 'his group' and the two sisters had already left without him noticing.

Min Mingye paused with surprise when he saw the handsome European man but his surprise only lasted for a few seconds before he quickly caught himself. Pretty boys in the apocalypse weren't unusual.

However, what caught his gaze was the other group's condition. They were youngsters but their appearances were neat and tidy. They were wearing clean clothes and carrying weapons. One girl was even carrying a katana!

There was also the fact that they did not look underweight and had a healthy flush in their skin.

It seemed that this group was quite capable but Min Mingye was still pretty confident. He was already an ability user. What else was he incapable of doing? He has evolved into a supernatural and could defeat these fellows without any problems.

"Kid, come over here. Lead the way, I'm prepared to help you. Don't waste your time on them. They don't even look that strong. Unlike me, I'm an ability user! I'll definitely save your friends!" Min Mingye said proudly as he puffed out his chest.

This action made him look haughty and unkind, his self-righteousness vanishing in thin air and was replaced by arrogance.

Zhang Youji lowered his gaze. At first, he did want to lure this man because he was an ability user but after seeing a group of strong people, Zhang Youji changed tactics. Maybe, just maybe.. this handsome big brother and his group would be able to liberate his Mom from her condition...

Maybe, just maybe they would save him, too.

Zhang Youji's lashes trembled. He chose to ignore Min Mingye who he deemed particularly weak compared to the handsome big brother infront of him. Even though Zhang Youji was young, a child was still sensitive and could differentiate between good and bad people.

Min Mingye was astonished. He didn't think that the child would ignore him when just a few minutes ago, this very same child had begged him for his help! What kind of mockery is this?!

Min Mingye's face turned red from embarrassment.

Zhang Youji went to hide behind the handsome big brother as he looked at Min Mingye with apprehension.

"You--!" Min Mingye couldn't understand this sudden change in attitude. What was this child scheming? Did he think that this handsome poser could protect him from Min Mingye? The guy didn't even look strong! Aside from the guy's pretty face, what other things was this youngster capable of?

"Uncle, I'm sorry. I don't need your help anymore." Zhang Youji blurted out which made Min Mingye feel ridiculed. Just recently he was called 'big brother' by Zhang Youji but now he was being addressed as 'Uncle'? He was only in his early 30s! He didn't even look that old!

Lu Jingren raised his head and gazed at Min Mingye, blinking at the older man. His hands were on his pockets and when he straightened his posture, his tall height made him look quite charismatic and intimidating.

"Old man, he said that he doesn't need your help anymore."

Old man!?

Fu Yangzhu covered his mouth, trying hard not to laugh. As expected of the Boss! His words were truly savage and unkind when dealing with this kind of person!

Mu Qianmo and Mizuki Rei also stifled their laughs, trying to keep a poker face. The two girls, Mu Qingqing and Lin Jiaojiao were unrestrained as they started giggling to themselves after hearing this.

Lilian Mo placed a hand over her mouth. Of course, Lu Jingren's bluntness was unrivaled.
