Escape

With an idea circulating in his mind Montu closed the distance with the wood spirit.

He knew that he had to act fast if he wanted to survive. Suddenly, the wood spirit attacked again with its gale leaves strike, but this time Montu was prepared. He quickly dodged to the left side, deliberately exposing his right hand to the attack.

And so, his right hand too was cut off from his body, he jumped across a few meters and fell on the ground, trying to play dead hoping that the wood spirit would lose interest and move on.

But as he lay on the ground, his mind raced with thoughts of how he could turn the situation to his advantage. He knew that he had to act quickly, or his chances of survival would dwindle by the second.

Montu's mind raced with fear and desperation as the wood spirit approached him, holding his severed hands in its grasp.

'Why didn't I think of that, why would the spirit only take his hands instead of devouring me whole.'

In his moment of despair, Montu turned to a higher power for help. He cried out to God, begging for help and deliverance from the clutches of the wood spirit.

And in that moment, it seemed as though his prayers were answered. A deafening roar echoed through the forest, causing the trees to shake and the ground to tremble beneath him.

As he looked up, Montu's eyes widened in awe. A towering green humanoid monster, at least 15 feet tall could be seen from the area of the battle.

He couldn't believe his eyes - was this a divine intervention or just a stroke of luck?

The spirit made a quick escape upon hearing the monster's deafening roar, while Montu kept laying down and moved away stealthily to avoid being detected.

Once the monster was out of sight, he breathed a sigh of relief and searched for a secure location to tend to his wounds. After resting for three hours, his arms had fully regenerated, and he was as good as new.

A notification popped up before his eyes, indicating an increase in his regeneration proficiency to 40 out of 100.

The system announced, "Congratulations on successfully finishing the quest. Host have been awarded 50 gold as a mission reward. The host can locate and employ the gold from your inventory."

As an added bonus for completing the first mission, Montu was bestowed with a new skill - Jab at Level 1.

Though not a rare or legendary ability, he was elated nonetheless as it was better than receiving nothing at all.

He thought of system and his profile opened

"Isn't this way too simple, I knew it was a simple skill but this is too much." Sighed Montu.

"I should practice using this new skill and become accustomed to its techniques," he thought to himself.

Montu then proceeded towards a nearby tree and practiced using Jab several times, leaving a small dent in the tree trunk.

With the intention to level up his abilities, he ventured into the forest and soon spotted a goblin encampment, consisting of nearly fifty goblins and a powerful Hobgoblin brandishing a massive blade.

"How can I possibly defeat such a formidable foe with my current stats?!" Montu questioned himself, feeling a sense of trepidation. He then utilized his God's Eye skill to examine the Hobgoblin's stats.

Montu proceeded to check the stats of the other goblins in the encampment and discovered that they were all Level 1 goblins, except for seven Level 2 goblins. He observed them roasting meat over a fire.

"I can't attack them all at once like this without putting myself in danger. I need to come up with a strategy to eliminate them safely," Montu thought to himself, considering his options.

Montu inquired of the system, "Do you have a shop where I can purchase items?"

The system responded, "Yes, there is a shop available where you can acquire nearly everything. Would you like me to open the shop for you?"

"Yes, open it," Montu ordered.

He searched the shop for flammable materials and eventually found kerosene and a lighter, happy by his discovery.

Montu exclaimed, "I am a genius! There's no one as intelligent as me."

However, when he attempted to purchase the kerosene and lighter from the shop, the system notified him that he didn't possess enough gold to make the purchase. Montu then reviewed the cost of the items once more:

Kerosene=200 gold

Lighter=24 gold

He fretted, "How can I possibly eliminate the goblins without endangering myself now?"

"Weren't you the one boasting about your intelligence a moment ago, where is that intelligence now?" Said the system.

Montu was taken aback by the sarcastic response from the system. He retorted, "Stop mocking me, I'm attempting to come up with a solution here!"

Suddenly, the system made a strange beeping sound, displaying an emoticon with a confused and surprised expression.

[Beep Beep ....<_ > ○_○]

Montu questioned, "Where are you acquiring these peculiar behaviors from?"

However, the system didn't reply to his question.

A new idea suddenly dawned on Montu, and he opened the shop once more.
