"Chen Kaori!" He Zifeng forcefully grabbed her hand, with the force swinging her body to face him. "Why did you suddenly resign...and without even telling me?!" the questions he long wanted to ask was blurted out. He finally successfully caught up to her.

Chen Kaori looked him in the eyes. She took a deep breath, "Mr. He, I filed my resignation with HR and they approved it. You were not my immediate supervisor. My resignation should not concern you."

"You! You really...aren't we..." He Zifeng had difficulty expressing all his emotions. "But we're friends!" he finally snapped.

Chen Kaori slightly trembled hearing those words. Indeed, she was just a friend, nothing more. "Mr. He, you were just my boss. I had nothing to do with your life outside of the office building."

He Zifeng felt like he was drenched with cold water.

Indeed, he tried to limit their interaction to only related to work. The only time he allowed her to be with him outside of work was when his parents invited her over to their house for meals.

She tried to be closer to him, but he avoided her.

He was too afraid that people might talk, and that those people will try to hurt her if they confirmed that there was something going on between the two of them.

But he was still pampered by the multiple times she confessed to him.

He never thought that the day would come, that she would leave without saying goodbye, that she would just disappear without giving him the chance to tell her how he really feels.

He Zifeng panicked when Chen Kaori resigned from H&B. He felt like a dog abandoned by his owner, his owner who always told him that he was loved. He felt lost.

That was why when he saw her again, it was as if he found his way back home, but it seemed the door was shut, never to welcome him again.

Stubborn as he is, given the chances, he still held back in telling her how he feels. He wanted to bite his tongue as the word 'friends' came out of his mouth.

He really wanted to tell her, but not like this, not on the side of the street where it would seem insincere, as if he would just say so to bring her back to H&B, like the collaboration was not enough. It was more than that. He does not care if she quits her job, but he does not want her to quit on him.

"Come with me!" he tried to drag her from the street so they could talk.

"No!" Chen Kaori successfully released her hand from his grip and brisk walked into the crowd awaiting the pedestrian light to turn green.

She tried to distance herself from He Zifeng who still tried to follow her.

She managed to squeeze through the crowd to be in front, one of the first ones to cross, and secretly hoped that He Zifeng would be stopped by a red light before he catches up.

Chen Kaori watched the light impatiently. Her face flashed into a slight smile as it turned green.

When she stepped on the first crossing line, she saw a woman in a flashy dress waving to someone from behind, hurrying to cross the street on her heels. Then a bright light shone on the woman. People gasped, they stopped on their tracks as they saw a speeding car coming from the other lane about to hit the woman.

Chen Kaori had a split-second decision. She dashed towards the woman with pushing intent, who was thrown back to the pavement by her momentum.

People cried out as they saw a woman being hit by the speeding car. She was hit by the bumper on the legs and her body was thrown over the hood, all the way over the sports car which was moving at about 120kph. The car never stopped. The woman lied on the ground looking lifeless.

He Zifeng froze as he saw her not moving.
