Childhood friends: who says we can’t date?

“Do you know how long we have known each other for?” Su Jin asked the man standing opposite her. “16 years, 3 months, 3 hours....” Yu Ren paused before glancing down at his watch, “45 minutes and 23 seconds.” Su Jin has long been used to his precision and didn’t even blink at his answer. “Precisely! 16 years, 3 months, 3 hours and whatever minutes...!” “46 minutes and 13 seconds now.” Yu Ren interrupted her. “Gah! My point is, since we have known each other for so long! We definitely do not suit each other!” Su Jin practically roared, annoyed at getting cut off. “But it is because we have known each other for so long that we should date.” Yu Ren answered with his usual non expression. “Why do you even want to date me? What do you like about me?” Su Jin asked. “I like everything about you.” Yu Ren replied with a ‘isn’t that obvious’ look on his face. Su Jin palm practically itched when she saw it. ‘Must not slap him. Must Endure!’ “Everything? What do you even know about me?!” Su Jin was so frustrated that she wanted to throw something at his face. “You are 24 years old, your height is 163 cm and your weight is 52 kg. You think you are fat but I don’t agree with you. You love the color blue and....”Yu Ren started answering mechanically, repeating everything he knew about her. Su Jin was so confused and just listened to him droning on and on. Until he said, “.....and your cup size is...” That was when she woke up and ran towards him. ‘Stop! Stop! Shut up before I kill you Yu Ren!’ This is a short story about a man pursuing his childhood friend.

Let’s date

It was late in the evening and Su Jin just finished cleaning up her little bakery shop. As she was putting the pots in order, the little tinkle on her door made a sound as someone opened the door.

"I'm sorry but we are...." Su Jin turned and paused her sentence midway.

A tall man of about 183 cm walked into the shop. The light from the streets outside shone on his black hair and wind lightly rustled it. His light grey eyes stared directly at Su Jin.

"Oh it's you!" Su Jin smiled as soon as she saw Yu Ren walking in the shop.

He nodded in acknowledgment and walked to the counter.

"It's so late, how come you are here?" Su Jin asked him as she continued arranging the pots.

"To talk to you." Yu Ren replied calmly. His eyes have not left Su Jin's form even for a moment.

"Talk? Is it something important?" Su Jin asked, not fully concentrating on what he's saying.

"Yes." Yu Ren nodded and patiently waited for her to look up at him.

After a while, Su Jin finished arranging the pots.

"Ok so what do you want to say?" Su Jin asked as she handed a small banana cake to him. She knows it's his favorite.

He accepted it and kept it in his suit pocket.

"Hmm?" Su Jin prompted when she saw that he wasn't replying. She felt that he was being strange since he normally doesn't dilly dally.

Yu Ren took a deep breath-another sign of unusual behavior- as he believes in breathing evenly for all occasions to efficiently train his body. A logic Su Jin doesn't quite understand but respect nevertheless.

As Su Jin was ruminating, Yu Ren suddenly spoke up.

"Let's date."
