Chapter 12

Soon, everyone in the school knew about William's admission into Scrollania College. Many students from other classes and grades all came to see the bustle. It was inevitable for Sara to be compared with her sister. Nonetheless, she was not bothered to respond to the comments. She put on her earphones and carried on revising her vocabularies.

"Knock! Knock!" Someone knocked on her desk.

Sara raised her head and saw Allie's face.

Allie said with an enigmatic smile, "Sara, we are planning to hold a farewell dinner for William tonight. Would you like to join us?"

"After all, William's such a good sister to you. Once she's gone, no one in the school would be able to protect you!" Someone else said with derision.

"Speaking of which, one's life can really be different from the others. Look, someone ranked third in the entire city but still did not get a place at the college. Do you think it's because of her disgraceful background?"

These people loved to make fun of Sara's identity as an illegitimate child, which was the only thing that would hurt Sara.

Among the sarcastic voices, the headteacher suddenly appeared and shouted, "What are you guys doing?"

Everyone jumped in shock, and Allie quickly replied, "Teacher, William is going to Scrollania College and Sara is jealous of her. We were giving her some advice."

If it was in the past, the headteacher would not say anything. But that day, her expression looked unknowingly strange. She scolded Allie, "Since when are you wise enough to give advice?"

Elena was stunned for a moment. When she was about to retort, the teacher had walked up to Sara. Looking at her mannerism, the teacher seemed to be fawning over Sara!

She looked at Sara, and kindness laced her words, "Sara, why didn't you tell me in advance about such an important matter?" Sara raised her head and looked at her in confusion.

Everyone was confused as well and they couldn't understand what the teacher was doing.

"Well, the principal has arranged an exclusive interview. I don't know if you are willing to participate... I certainly wish that you will accept the interview. After all, it is the greatest achievement for the school's reputation!" The form teacher said.

Elena was baffled upon hearing that. "Teacher, the person who is going to Scrollania College is William, not Sara! Shouldn't the exclusive interview be given to William? Are you mistaken?" She asked.

The teacher glared at her and chastised, "Why do you always have so much to say?"

Allie went silent.

Sara was also utterly confused, "Teacher, what exclusive interview do you mean?".

The form teacher looked at her reproachfully and said, "Sara, ! already knew, you don't have to hide it anymore."

Sara insisted, "Teacher, I really don't understand what you're talking about."

At last, the form teacher announced, "The head of enrolment office from Scrollania College had personally visited our school and specially recruited you! I knew that your excellent results would undoubtedly be appreciated. You don't have to cover the news up anymore."

As soon as the class teacher said that, not only the students were shocked, even Sara was stunned as well.

Did the head of the enrolment office from Scrollania College really came in person to recruit her? Sara still couldn't believe it.

"How could it be possible? Isn't William rolling Scrollania College?" She wondered. William was also filled with skepticism. She stood up and questioned aloud, "Teacher! Did you make a mistake?"

The form teacher denied, "How could I? He said in person that he was looking for Sara Martin who placed third in the city-wide exam rankings."

William's face blanched.

Sara, on the other hand, was bewildered.

William had only received a notice for her admission to Scrollania, while Sara had the head of the recruitment office to come in person. It was a contrasting status altogether. And it was also the cause of the significant change in the headteacher's attitude towards Sara. She gently said to Sara, "Mr. Lawford is still waiting for you, do you want to come with me to meet him?"

Sara nodded her head politely, she was also doubting and wanted to ask if they were mistaken. Mrs. Bishop had clearly only promised to get William to Scrollania College!

Seeing this, William quickly added, "Teacher!"

The class teacher gave it a thought, "Since William will also be going to Scrollania..." She then agreed, "Okay."

The principal didn't dare to neglect the director of admissions from Scrollania College. He and several form teachers had invited the distinguished guest to his office.

There was a smile on William's face. She was sure that the school had made a mistake, and she entered the office confidently.

A bald man, who was speaking to the principal, immediately stood up at their arrival and said, "You must be Miss Martin!"

William thought that it was as expected that they had made a mistake. She smiled and said, "Yes, and you are?"

The bald man cleared his throat and said, "I am Mr. Lawford from Scrollania College."

William had always been a smooth talker. She quickly said, "Hello, Mr. Lawford. I actually planned on going to Scrollania in two days, why are you here in person?"

Mr. Lawford answered cautiously, "About that... Miss Martin, it is our honor to have you enrolling our institution. It is only fitting that I'm here to settle matters concerning your transfer from your current school."

William did not expect the director to be so polite, she was flattered and surprised, but also feeling gratified. She said, "The pleasure is all mine. I'm very fortunate to be able to go to Scrollania."

The principal and several other teachers looked at each other in dismay. Although the Martin family's background was pretty good, they were nothing comparable to those who went to the Scrollania College. They couldn't fathom out the reason for Mr. Lawford's ingratiating and careful behavior with William. Perhaps William had recently gotten the favor of some reputable party, they guessed.

Everyone had their own guess in mind. The principal was used to making the best out of a situation, and as soon as he saw how Mr. Lawford behaved, he immediately began to praise William. The rest of the teachers followed closely. In a blink of an eye, William was treated like an admirable genius.

William smiled and humbly replied, "I'm not as good..."

The form teacher and Sara were both looking bemused at the situation before them.

After a short pause, William suddenly said with a grin, "Mr. Lawford, I thought that you were looking for my sister just now."

Mr. Lawford startled at her words and asked curiously, "What do you mean?"

William replied, "Maybe our teacher got the wrong name, but my sister also wants to go to Scrollania badly..."

William brought that up not because she wanted to help Sara, but it was to humiliate her. She knew that the college did not simply take people in.

As expected, Mr. Lawford immediately frowned and said, "Miss Martin , Scrollania has strict rules. Not everyone can be accepted for admission."

William bit her lip and pretended to look sad. "I'm sorry. I mentioned it because my sister really likes Scrollania... Forgive me, I was merely saying."

She behaved like a good sister who loved her younger sibling dearly, but only Sara could see the viciousness and mockery hidden in William's eyes.

Seeing that the misunderstanding has been cleared, Sara didn't want to stay any longer. She informed the form teacher that she would go first. The form teacher felt something was amiss, but just as she wanted to call out to Sara, the principal scolded, "Sara, how can you be so ignorant? Do you think that Scrollania College is a school that you can get into just because you wanted? How can you trouble your sister with this matter!"

Sara sighed.

She knew that William's favorite play would come up yet again.

As long as she was being scolded and reprimanded, William would feel contented.

Just as Sara was about to apologize, Mr. Lawford asked in surprise, "Principal, what... what did you just call her?"
