18. Unexpected Reunion

It seems we have to experience, go here and there, to love this country more.

In the poor rural villages, they have no money, no rice on the barren land to harvest. Everyone looks ragged, but their humanity is still there.

When matter no longer exists, people live by human nature.

A little rice, a potato, a cassava tuber, they help me live through the day.

To tell the truth, I don't feel hungry when I'm on the road.

I am hungry for goodness, hunger for humanity has long since disappeared.

Unfortunately, even though I have the surname Scottfield, I don't actually own anything.

Money, fame... My family, they manage everything, they want me to understand that: I am nobody without them.

A message that once heard, people will think it is good intention.

To ensure the safety of those who stay, S will have to report to the "eyes" of the Scottfield family.

The bossy is that they actually don't need S's report to know that I'm leaving. What they want when they do that is to carve into the heads of those below them that they are absolute.

Tonight, the same stone bench, the pavement is full of rubble, I sit silently in the dark night.

Cold, the frost of the moonlit night seems to make such visitor want to close their eyes and fall asleep.

I slept outside like that for a few days.

Suddenly there was a sound.

From my pocket, I pulled out a small knife for self-defense.

It could be anyone, anything. In the dark night, there is not a bit of light that makes people cautious.

It was panting, weak breaths, one at a time. Then the echo echoed again, this time more familiar.

"Are you crazy! Why are you torturing yourself all of a sudden? Over a month and a half… I've been looking for you for over a month, you bastard!"

I was surprised, but only dared to ask quietly.

"My fate... Such weird thing. I have to be with you guys all the time. But that's quite good of you, found me in the middle of nowhere, could S go with you? And are you injured?"

"Milk..."

"Milk?"

"When I went to find you, because I didn't want S to know, I told her that I was going to buy... milk."

"What kind of weird reason is that?"

"Hey… It's none of your business! But I'm not here to bring you back, I know you'll be stubborn and make excuses, so I've made up my mind. I will go with you."

Well, she says I'm stubborn, but who's the stubborn one here?

No matter how much I advise her, she won't change her "small decision".

Well, I don't mind having one or two more companions.

She took my hand and ran.

"There are wild animals around, it's not safe here! At least let's go to someone's house first, and then we can plan things later!"

I gave her a small chuckles.

"Now I know where the wound came from."

"Shut up and run, you pervert! I'll let you touch it later."

"You mean treat the wound, pervert?"

Now, we may be lost forever in this Kingdom, until the journey to the north leads us to the end, when our family opens their arms to embrace us, with their twisted smiles.
