CH 8 - Exploring the lab

Looking around the place for something of notice, Carrion realized that the place was even more rundown than he initially thought, the walls have cracks in them, moss is growing everywhere, there were water leaking through the ceiling, seems like whoever run the place haven't been keeping it very well .

All in all, the first thing you would thing of a place like this wouldn't be some prestigious research facility but more like an abandoned warehouse, it looks like it has been abandoned for quite some time too since it's condition is quite wrecked, maybe about more than 10 years.

After he's done with looking around , he decided to start crawling towards the right first to begin his search for food, because he has been sitting still for a while and he hadn't been fed anything at all inside the incubator, so of course he was starving. He can feel his hunger just like when he was a human , the water leaking on the ground can serve as his source of hydration for now since he's not really in a position to care about hygiene or clean. Now he have to find something to eat before he starve to death .

He tried eating moss to see if it helps but his hunger doesn't seem to get any better , even though he suck up a huge patch of moss. His body seems to be telling him that it needs meat and that meat is the only acceptable meal. So where should he go to find meat, there's no answer to that question so the only thing he could do now is to just crawl to his right in hope that something might wander into the lab somehow.

On his way, he notice on the walls to his left , there were wide windows , probably for viewing the incubator lab room, it's too high up though, for him to see the other side. So he continues on his crawl, after a while, until..

"Chizz ,chizz"

*Hm?*

The familiar squeaky sound of a Rat was heard in front of him, as he look forward, he saw two things, a rat and a hole in the wall. Firstly, the hole is good news as this means that there is a way out of this room, the bad news is that the hole is barely enough for one rat-sized creature to fir through, and that certainly isn't Carrion with the mass of a grown adult. Secondly, he have found his next meal quite early on, and it doesn't seem to have noticed him yet.

The rats have always been an an nuisance to him back on earth as the place he lived in was full of rats, everywhere he goes there were rats both inside and outside, it was both annoying and disgusting, he had even wished that the rats go extinct . Never would he thought in his life that he would be happy at the sight of seeing a fat rat in front of him.

Carrion start approaching the rat very slowly, fortunately his body was great at that, and it doesn't make much sound either. The rat in front of him was a bit bigger than usual, what he thought was a fat rat was actually not fat but it was just bigger than the usual rats that he saw back on Earth, the rat's body was quite slim and it fur was slightly white also. Quite an uncommon color for a rat, other than that, it's looks is exactly like a rat.

After getting closer to it, just about 3 meters away from it, he activate Devour and his body started transforming again, his front part protruding out, forming a mouth , moments later it lunges towards the unsuspecting prey, devouring it instantly, the only thing it could do was to let out a slight squeak as it body was being crushed by the force of the jaws. It's death was brutal.

[ New parts have been acquired ]

A screen popped up confirming his kill and notified him of the gains, he gained some stats and some parts for transforming , which he assumed would turn parts of his body or it's entirety into the rat. What was more surprising is that the rat didn't taste bad at all like he had thought, it was actually good. The rat meat reminded him of rabbit meat but it was a little sour. All in all, a successful first hunt, though he is still a bit hungry since a rat wouldn't fill up this big blob of flesh.

* I've acquired a new parts ? That means if I have enough mana I can Shapeshift into it , while I don't know how this skill really works, considering a rat is pretty weak maybe I can already turn into it partially? I do have just a bit of mana right now *

* Well, I guess there's no hurt in trying it out , right ?*

Thinking that, Carrion started preparing for the transformation while feeling both a little excited because he's using a new skill and disgusted of the result of becoming a rat, even if the rat looks a lot better than back on Earth.

He yelled out the skill in his mind :*Shapeshift !*

Thinking of the the form he want to become, he waited in anticipation for the skill to go off.

The anticipation quickly wears off as the blue screen popped up in front of him. The amount of mana that he has is still too little to be of any use.

*Damn it , I knew it wasn't enough*

Though feeling disappointed, Carrion have no choice but to march forward, there's no time to waste because there might not be much food in here and starving is not an option. Looking back at the hole, Carrion keep a note in his mind that after he's done exploring this room, this will be the next point.

Continuing on his exploration at the speed of a sloth, crawling through the ground, he would soon find a familiar scene.
